Firebug Prevents Page Interaction?

Jun 28, 2010

Whenever firebug detects a js error on a page, it prevents you from interacting with the page, so you can't scroll, you can't click, you can't do anything except close the window.

Server Response Correct - Viewed In Firebug - Not Displaying On Page

Mar 12, 2010

I'm having two Ajax-related problems on a page I am working on at the moment. [url] On this page, I have two buttons that use Ajax to fetch two separate forms and put them into a chosen div; that part works like a charm.

On said forms, there is a div that is meant to display any necessary error messages when the submit button is clicked. However, on the first time the page is visited and the form is chosen, the div won't display the error message. Only after refreshing the page/choosing the form a second time will the message show. I've been checking the response from the server via Firebug and the response is correct, it just seems like the page isn't updating correctly.

Secondly, once I refresh or choose the form again and the error message begins to show, if I enter values into the form fields and should be getting a different error message, it never updates. Once again, the server response is correct, but for some reason the page just isn't updating to reflect the new message.

I have been using the date field on the New Event form for testing; if you have Firebug, you should be able to see that I am getting the desired response from the server (look in the allErr div), but the HTML isn't changing with it. I have tried both using my own Ajax functions and using jQuery's Ajax implementation, but both give me the same problems.

Ajax: Server Response Correct - Viewed In Firebug - Page Not Updating

Feb 23, 2010

A couple of months ago I posted a question in these forums pertaining to some trouble I've been having with a webpage utilizing Javascript and PHP to implement AJAX.

JQuery :: Selectable Plugin Prevents Click Event?

Mar 2, 2009

I've recently started working with jQuery. Using v1.3.1 and UI v1.6RC6. I created an accordion with another accordion nested within it. I've set both to selectable. Things seemed to be working fine until I noticed that IE and FF were behaving differently. IE allowed me to open the accordion tab that contained the nested accordion, and then allowed me to open up the nested accordion. In FF, I could not open the nested accordion. I managed to get it working in FF by setting the cancel property to li element (which contained the nested accordion). Questions:

1) I traced through the code and didn't see where jQuery unbound the click event that should have been caught by the accordion headers. The only thing that I can see is that the selectable items catch the mousedown event, and when caught create a helper div element at the same position that the mousedown occurred and at z-index 100. I've read elsewhere that a browser registers a click only if the mousedown and mouseup occurred on the same element. Does adding this element fool the browser into thinking there wasn't a click?

2) Following #1. I've read that event bubbling follows the DOM hierarchy - from child to parent, However, is it correct to assume that the target element initially determined by the element with the highest z-index (assuming all different)? Once triggered then event would bubble up ignoring z-index?

3) If #1 and #2 are fairly accurate, does anyone have any idea why IE would seem to still register a click event? Maybe it ignores the fact that another element with a higher z-indez was added and simply compares mousedown/up coordinates?

JQuery :: Use .load, But It Prevents Me From Setting Css Color On What Is Loaded?

Mar 9, 2011

I have code that lets the user click on a link. When he does that, it calls the .Load function. This loads some HTML (a div and some contents) into a tag. Then it tries to color the left border of the DIV that it loaded. Now the interesting thing is that it does succeed to color that border very briefly - but immediately the color is covered up with black, which is the original color.

CSS And Javascript Interaction

Jul 20, 2005

I have a table with alternating bg-colors and in which I highlight the row
focused by the mouse. This is achieved by

<TR bgcolor='#A7BCCF' onmouseout="this.bgColor = '#A7BCCF'"
onmouseover="this.bgColor = '#86B1DC'">
<TD> Something ...
<TR bgcolor='#B8CADA' onmouseout="this.bgColor = '#A7BCCF'"
onmouseover="this.bgColor = '#86B1DC'">
<TD> Something else ...

THis works fine. If however I use CSS <TD class='myclass'> the
onmouseXXX-effect disappears. Any suggestions as how to resolve this ?

Expanding Table With User Interaction?

how to embed YouTube videos into a vBulletin installation of mine. How would I go about making a vertically expanding table that expand when the user would click on the "YouTube" text? I'm thinking of starting out out as a size maybe 100px high and 400px wide, and expand to 375px high and 450px tall. I've checked Google, but nothing seemed to come up that I could use.

Function Blocking Waiting For User Interaction

Oct 26, 2006

I'm trying to halt a function's execution while waiting for user
interaction.

For example, I have a function called getUserValue() that pops up a hidden
div containing several buttons. Each button sets a value. I want use a
function to pop the box, wait for the users' button press, and then continue
the function based on what the user presses.

Behold, simi-code:

function getUserValue() {
... lots of code ...
var returnValue = doPopBox();
... lots more code based on users selection in doPopBox();
}

I've written quite a bit of supporting code, but the getUserValue()
continues to execute after the box is popped up, even before the user
presses a button.

I used setTimeout() to check to see if the button has been pressed -- but
when the timer starts, the interface is locked and a button cannot be
pressed. I also tried using a recursive function, (check value=null, if it
is, recheck), but Firefox and IE apparently don't like what may seem like an
unending recursive loop.

Using Firebug To See What's Being Executed On An Element?

Jul 27, 2011

how I could use firebug to step through massive amounts of javascript that were written by someone else. I'm trying to figure something out for work which has me stumped.

An old co-worker wrote some scripts based on prototype to show input fields on a form when certain options were selected on the previous input fields. I'm trying to duplicate his old code but for some reason it's just not working. I can see that the reason those input fields aren't showing up is because display:none is being added on to the element by the js on the second step after the breakpoint (break on attribute change in firebug). This happens on the working page as well but the working page has about 10 more steps afterwards that eventually remove that style.
