JQuery :: Why Does .keypress Fire Twice In An Input Box

Jun 9, 2011

I have the following going on:

<script type="text/javascript">
$(function(){
$("#addtext").keypress(function (e) {
var c = String.fromCharCode(e.which);

[Code]....

When I type a character into the input field, it gets echoed twice in the target area. I know it is getting fired twice because the alert box will pop up twice.

JQuery :: Input Edit Does Not Fire Autocomplete?

Aug 27, 2009

Coded the following in a page :

var ArrayVariable = New Array();
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#inputbox").autocompleteArray(ArrayVariable, {
delay: 10,

[Code]....

Filling the input box does not present the list of matching array elements. I believe the array has the wrong structure because it is not recognized in jQuery.fn.autocomplete. options.data is set to null because data.constructor does not return an array. The array is filled by looping through all elements of a json stucture returned from an ajax call as in ArrayVariable[index] = jsonResponse [i]. It appears to be a normal array when looking at it with visual studio. I've also tried to create a string as in var ArrayVariable = ""; and ArrayVariable = "[ 'elementone', 'elementtwo', 'elementthree']"; but that was not successfull either.

Use Return Key To Fire Onsubmit And Focus Outside Form <input> Field?

Jul 23, 2010

I'm developing am income tax calculator, and everything is going swell. Currently the user can type in their adjusted gross income (AGI), hit submit, and learn the amount of income tax they would pay, their tax rate, and their income after tax.

I've played around with the events to get the submit button to work in FF, IE, Chrome and Safari -- and I've gotten the enter button to work before with some stock code, but here's the catch: when the user presses enter, i want the focus to leave the input box. I don't care where it goes (submit button, I suppose?) but i need it to leave the input field so the onfocus="clearText(this);" event can fire when they return to type in a new income.

<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
function TotalGrossPerYear() {
var Calc = document.NetIncome;
if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) {

How To Check The Input File Object File Size On Client Side?

Dec 20, 2004

I have a form with three Input File form objects in which the user can add image files. But I am worried about the problems these controls can lead, because to check the file size the server needs to receive the entire file, so serious problems may happen, for example:

1. Malicious user trying to collapse the website sending big files.

2. Users that have not seen the warning “Maximum size: 100 KBâ€&#65533; for each image, and try to send three image files consisting in 1,5 MB each one. These users will have a bad experience waiting one hour or more to upload the images, and after that receive an alert saying “Oooops! Your image files are too big.â€&#65533; And also, web server will waste an important amount of resources. The same case with 100 users at the same time can be a nightmare!

I have been searching a way to check the file size on client side without having to force user to install anything, but I think that there isn’ t nothing to do with javascript. But I found an interesting PHP article that explains a way to do it with this server side language. The technique consists in:

“A hidden field (measured in bytes) that precede the file input field, and its value is the maximum filesize accepted. This is an advisory to the browser, PHP also checks it. This form element should always be used as it saves users the trouble of waiting for a big file being transferred only to find that it was too big and the transfer failed. Code:

CloneNode'ing File Input

Oct 19, 2005

In Mozilla (Firefox 1.0.7) I can cloneNode a file input element that
has a selected file value and appendChild it to another form without a
problem.

IE 6 loses the selected file value. Is this a bug with IE that it
loses the value, or with FF that it keeps it?

I'd really like to be able to maintain the selected file value in IE.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with cloneNode that can
provide some insight?

I have not tried this on any browsers other than IE 6 and FF 1.0.7.

Events For Input=file

May 5, 2006

<INPUT id="File1" style="WIDTH: 530px; HEIGHT: 22px" type="file"
size="70" name="File1" onclick="myFunction;">

Using this code, I'm able to catch the event that occurs when I click
in the "browse" button or in the text input box.

I need to catch another event: when the user has chosen the file in the
dialog and pressed "Open".

I can't us onpropertychange because what I want to do is to check the
name of the chosen file and eventually modify the text area. This would
make a recursive onpropertychange event call... so I need something
else.

I have taken the code, as viewed in the source code, and added it in where I please e.g. radio buttons, checkboxes etc, which function perfectly.

This does make 'duplicate' field but I have used display:none on the generated code which hides it. I have found a snippet of code which fixes issues will type=text fields....

But this can not be done when it comes to type=file.

Ie/mac - OnChange Problems For File Input

Jul 23, 2005

I have a form that allows a user to upload a file. When they select a
file (onChange), I call a JS function that analyzes the filename for
specific keywords and then populates a multiple select box with the
keywords.

The problem is, IE for Mac doesn't do the onChange properly. In all
other browsers, as soon as I select the file, the onChange fires and
the filename gets analyzed, etc. In IE for Mac, I have to click away
from the file input box for the onChange to take effect. The user won't
know to do this.

I've tried a ton of things already, including setting timers that force
the file input to lose focus. Nothing seems to work. Code:
