Document.forms[0].elements[7].

Why doesn't this work - no errors, just no value when text is in textbox
var fn=document.forms[0].elements[7].value;
I'm not a JS person, so hopefully this'll be nice an easy .
The follwoing bit of code:
Code:
<script language="javascript">
// if form exists , set cursor in first input field
function focusonform()
{
if (document.forms[0]) {
document.forms[0].elements[0].focus();
}
else
{window.focus();}
}
</script>
This appears to work fine on a page with no forms using Mozilla 1.0, IE6 on win2000. But NOT on IE6 on XP - I get the following message:
A Runtime Error has occured.
Do you wish to Debug?
Line: 70
Error: 'document.forms.0.elements.0'
I have some code on a page that will enable/disable a text box if a
checkbox has been checked/unchecked and it seems to be working fine
unless there is only one checkbox and one text box.
Here is the javascript:
function EnableCustLoyaltyNotes(x,y)
{
if (document.frmCustLoyalty.VoidLineID[x].checked ||
document.frmCustLoyalty.UnVoidLineID[x].checked)
{
document.frmCustLoyalty.Notes[y].disabled = false;
}
else
{
document.frmCustLoyalty.Notes[y].disabled = true;
}}
Pretty simple, here is the code on the page:
onClick="EnableCustLoyaltyNotes(Ɔ',Ɔ');"
Any ideas on why its not working?
I would like to know if is better to use document.forms to detect forms
or getElementById.
A straight forward problem I think but my knowledge of JavaScript lets
me down.
I am taking in a lot of input using a form. After preparing an email
(FormMail.pl) I then use 'document.write' to create a new page with
all the users details nicely formatted. This includes checking radio
buttons, checkboxes etc.
Problem is as soon as I use the first 'document.write', the form and
all its contents are undefined. I have moved some of them to variables
for the time being but this is cumbersome.
I have a problem to access a hidden field by javascript. The name of
the field has a dot in it. That's the problem. But I need that dot
because it is a "Stuts Property".
I'm using IE 6. This is my code:
I've been tryin to figure out why I am getting this error for some time now. Any ideas?
<script language="Javascript">
<!--
var lead_id = "<?php echo $LeadID; ?>"
if (lead_id > "") {
var state = "<?php echo $row['State']; ?>";
var confirmer = "<?php echo $row['Confirmer']; ?>";
var day = "<?php echo $row['ApptDay']; ?>";
if (state == "MD") {
alert("hi");
document.forms['form1'].state.options[0].selected = true;
}}
//-->
</script>
state is equal to MD so I am getting the alert "hi", but it breaks right there and gives me this error. document.forms.form1 has no properties heres my form tag:
<form name="form1" id="form1" action="ticketformpro.php?LeadID=<?php echo $LeadID; ?>" method="post">
I'm trying to get a form submit working for all browsers, and I am using document.forms['formname'].submit().
However, despite having 'formname' set on the forms in both the name and id properties, Safari 3 will not submit the form correctly; when I debug, $_POST is empty. IE, FF both work here fine. If I use document.forms[0].submit() it works correctly, but this code will be working in a dynamic site where I can never be sure at what index a given form will reside. I can make it work using document.getElementById('formname').submit(), but that does not work with js turned off, and I need this to work with js on/off.
how to loop the elements in forms to minimize long codes.. example if I have this form below:
<form name="test" method="post">
<input type="text" name="a">
<input type="text" name="b">
<input type="text" name="c">
<input type="text" name="d">
<input type="text" name="2">
</form>
I have a dynamic page of which I don't know how many forms will be on
it, neither which and how many elements will be in each form.
I use the following java script to disable all elements from all
forms:
var numberForms = document.forms.length;
var formIndex;
for (formIndex=0; formIndex<numberForms; formIndex++)
{
for(x=0;x<document.forms[formIndex].length;x++)
{ document.forms[formIndex].elements[x].disabled=true }
}
Now I want this to stay the same, except when an element is a
<textarea>. So basically: script must have the same functionallity
(disable all form elements), but not if the element is a textarea
(then it would remain enabled).
Is there a way to read out this <textarea> value in script ?
Normally I would just use document.getElementById to get anything I need but here is my problem:
I have a zip code control that I load using AJAX. it has city, state, country, county and zip code. This gets loaded within a business application and at one point you can have both a bill to and ship to address forms on the screen at the same time, loading my zip control with the same fields, same ids and same name. This forced me to now pass in the form name that contains the control.
I need to get to divs and spans within this form. Primarily as you type in a city or zip code, I am doing a hot search with a popup div that shows you results you can quickly choose from. The only time this becomes an issue is the situation I mentioned before when the zip code control is on the screen twice. I am not certain how to access the innerHTML of a span or div by way of the form name. Is this possible and if so what is the proper syntax?
Here is a very basic example at its simplest form of my problem.
<form name="frm_billto" id="frm_billto">
<span id="myspan">Hello</span>
</form>
<form name="frm_shipto" id="frm_shipto">
<span id="myspan">World</span>
</form>
In the above example because the control was loaded twice, I now have 2 spans with the same ID. I want the innerHTML of the each span based on the form they are in.
We wanted one control that we could use throughout the system that we could update in one place and the entire application be updated. Unfortunately we did not anticipate having it load more than once on the page.
I've found this this closed ticket and nothing more ...JQUERY cannot detect pasting text when the browser is IE8 or older version ...

However I need to include a section specific to the accommodation type. This section will include groups of radio buttons and checkboxes allowing the advertiser to choose which facilities/amenities are available.For exampleA hotel may have 24 room service campsite may have a shop on siteI was planning to have a separate div for each of the accommodation specific sections and toggling the display based on the choice of the accommodation type from a drop down list.I have just had a horrible thought that it may be possible if javascript was not enabled that either none of the sections would be displayed or even worse all of them at once.

<input type="text" onchange=doSomething(this)>
and a function:
function doSomething(theField){

I know that within the function I can access properties of the field (e.g. theField.name and theField.value). But how do I access theField's index number in the form's elements[] array -- from the "this" reference that was passed to the function? I.E. if this field is elements[3], how can I get at that 3?
I am working on a simple javascript craps game program. I need some advice since it won't display who the winner is, keep tally of who wins/loses, and the number of total games played. After using the error console there's an error with document.forms [0].thrower.value not being defined.

Is it possible to manipulate with elements in a variable, instead of in the document? I have a situation where I'm getting some HTML code in an Ajax response, but I want to make changes to it before I put it in the document. So I would need to iterate through some elements and change their attributes while the HTML code is still in the variable and then write it to the document.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI use the following code to add a "click" behaviour to an element:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#element_id").click (function(){
...... do something ....
[Code]....
Part of the node I clone is the element from the first piece of code I quoted. The addRowJob function also changed the ID of every element in the node I cloned. This way all IDs remain unique. Lets say the element in question has the ID "#element_id". Now I clone the node (which includes the element) and the cloned element gets its ID changed to "#element_id_new".
Of course I now want this newly append element ("#element_id_new") to have a click event attached to, but even if extend my $(document).ready(function() to:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#element_id").click (function(){
...... do something ....
});
[Code].....
I simply doesn't work for the appended element.
My guess is that the $(document).ready(function(){ only fires when the document is finished loading. At this stage there is no element with the ID "#element_id_new" and therefore the click event can't be attached to the element. Makes senses...
But how do I get this click event attached to the newly appended element with the ID "#element_id_new"?
I'm still struggling with creating a properly formatted form. This problem it two-fold. The first part isn't strictly a javascript problem, but I've included it here because it relates to the second part, which is:
1. Given the form below, how should I structure the input names to get an array like that at bottom?
2. The scripts are used to provide running totals and subtotals. They're fun - try them! But how should I modify these scripts so that they can continue to work with the amended naming policy?
