I'm trying to automatically generate a new <option> tag in a html form using the below code, but it's not working. The get_lightboxes function is being called via the add_to_lightbox functon.

I have an select option list, each option has a numerical id, value and text. Each option has an array of its own. So when I choose an option from this list, I want to insert the options array into another option list with an id, value and text. Whats the best way of doing this? How do I select an array based on the value or text of a select option? For for example, take a list of car makes. If I choose the make Audi, how do I select the array of Audi models and insert these models into another select option list. All makes and models have their own numerical id, value and text.

When one of the selects changes, I'd like the value of the rel of the selected option to display.At first it seems to work, but only if you start by changing the last pull down menu. The trouble seems to be in the"select.ProductAvailability option:selected", this needs to be written for this instance, not all of the selects of that class on the page. How do I write that, I've tried$(this+" option:selected") but it won't take.

With IE 8 when a select element is created and populated the select element appears as if it doesn't contain any options until it is clicked. Once clicked the select element then resizes and the data is displayed. I ran across an article mentioning this issue could be resolved by adding an extra line of code that applies a "blank" style to the element but unfortunately the issue still persists. I'm currently using jquery 1.4.2 and the code I use to populate a select element is:

I have consider many times that it would be useful that when a select element has both text and option values to send both values to the server. I have thought about a couple of different ways of doing this. But first let me give an example so that there is less chance of misunderstanding.Suppose I have a drop-down list that is a select element with an option list wherein each member of the option list has both a value and a text string.

I'd like to have an alert of some type, either standard alert or a hidden div, show up when a user selects an option in a select element.
For instance, if a select element has 5 options in it and the user chooses the first one, they would get an alert that says "You have chosen the first option". I'm confident this is something that can be done with a few lines of code, but I'm not sure where to begin.
Here's the logic - I'm just not sure how to write the syntax...

I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. I'm creating a form that has 30 odd fields, and I want to display certain fields based on the value of a select box. So say I have the following groups:
Group A:
field 1
field 2
field 3
field 4
Group B:
field 2
field 3
field 6
field 7

Group C:

field 7
field 8
field 9
field 10
What would the best (i.e fastest and easiest) way to show/hide the various fields? I was thinking about two different ways to approach this. One, having a multidimensional array with the allowed fields for each group. Two, having a custom attribute that defines which group(s) the corresponding form field belongs too. What do you think?
