Creating A Code Generator In Javascript - Is It Possible?

Feb 21, 2007

I have seen quite a few code generators over time where you are presented with a form, you fill in the various fields in the forum, and then click a Generate Code button, and the results show up in a textarea.

The code is then copied from the textarea and pasted into notepad or directly into an HTML document.

So, you may have some code that you want to generate that looks like this:

In this particular case there is 1 .js files that go to the root of the site that requires no editing.

Then there is 1 .css file that may require changes depending on user preferences. Things like margin, width, height, border and so on.

Then there is a section that goes into the Head of the document that requires no changes.

Then there is something like this would go inside a division"
<a href="address to a page" target="an iframe name"><img src="path to thumbnails/thumbnail name" border="1"></a>
Note that the above code has variable that would change based on user preferences. The way the code is presently structured it is not done as an array, however, this would substantially shorten the code depending on how many thumbnails are in it.

And finally there is another iframe section that would go inside a couple of a division. It relates to a second iframe.

Before I go any further with this, I just wanted to know if it's possible to do with javascript or is it best to do in another language.

The variables don't have to be kept in a database. What I am thinking is that the user would simply open up the HTML page, enter the data, generate the code, copy/paste and test, without closing the page. If there is a problem, he/she would simply go back in and change a variable or 2 and re-generate the code.

Creating A Product Like Google Analytics With JavaScript

I've noticed that Google uses JavaScript to pass information to their servers for processing. I can only imagine they're passing back the HTTP request of the current request to pull the data from to track sessions, page views, time spent, etc. Does anyone have an idea of how they're actually doing this?

Creating Generic Javascript Functions (ie. El.onmouseclick = Function ...)

Jan 8, 2007

I want to learn more about creating functions for element events
without having to put onclick event in every tag. For example:

<script>
document.getElementsByTagName('input').onclick = function () {
alert('hello');
}
</script>

Now, I know the above does not work as I have tried it but hopefully
the idea of what I am trying to achieve here. Basically for every input
tag, when the user triggers the event (click) it will do the same
function.

Anyway, I would more so like to learn about this type of scripting
where you assign functions to events. However, I dont know what to
search for in google and the like. Where could I learn more about this?

Creating Redirection Url From Form?

Mar 2, 2011

I'm a non-web programmer being forced to do some web programming.

My immediate problem is that, on submission of a form, I need to be able to open a url (that I control) with the filled-in form values appended to the new url. In other words, I need to be able to do the equivalent of :

<form>
<input name="key1" type="text"/>
<input name="key2" type="text"/>
<input type="button" value="Submit" onclick="window.open('http://new.domain.com/newpage.html?key1=val1&key2=val2')"/>
</form>

I would really like to do this without server-side code.

Creating A Form That Has 30 Odd Fields?

Jan 31, 2006

I'm creating a form that has 30 odd fields, and I want to display certain fields based on the value of a select box. So say I have the following groups:

Group A:
field 1
field 2
field 3
field 4

Group B:
field 2
field 3
field 6
field 7
field 8

Group C:
field 2
field 7
field 8
field 9
field 10

What would the best (i.e fastest and easiest) way to show/hide the various fields? I was thinking about two different ways to approach this. One, having a multidimensional array with the allowed fields for each group. Two, having a custom attribute that defines which group(s) the corresponding form field belongs too. What do you think?

Creating Some Simple Form Buttons

Jul 29, 2007

I'm quite novice at javaScript but I have a good background in other similar languages, so I find I pick up things quick. Basically I'm planning on reading through some more solid resources on this topic, but I'm kinda under the pump at the moment for something that I imagine wouldn't be too difficult with a lil nudge in the right direction.

I have a form (using PHP) to update a mySQL database AND XML for flash, for a simple news page. At the moment I have the BBcode style of tags ([b][eb]). I was wondering how I can make a rich editor myself with just three buttons (one for italic, one for bold, one for links) that displays the text on screen to the user as WYSIWYG, and outputs the [b] [eb] tags for my PHP code.

Creating A Form Containing Two Drop Down Menus?

Aug 28, 2011

I am creating a form containing two drop down menus. The second drop down changes every time a user change the selection on the first drop down. So, I have this line below:

Code:

<select name="province" id="province" class="mobileform" onchange="changeCities()">

The problem is when a user (in this case me) is using an iPhone's Safari, when he hits "next" button on the first drop down, it does not change the content of the second drop down. But when he hits "previous", then "next" again, the selections get updated afterwards.

In a shorter sentence, the event listener does not work on the first hit, but it works on the second hit. What am I missing here? What steps do I need to add?

Creating Form To Allow User To Enter Various Words?

Sep 30, 2009

I am new to JavaScript and was wonder how I would go about creating a form to allow the user to enter various words, one at a time. These words are added to an array and displayed in the page using the textarea form element. Each time a new word is entered, it is added to the array, and then the array is sorted in alphabetical order before the words in the array are displayed in the textarea, one per line. I have tried lots and lots of different methods to accomplish this, and I can get it half working when I use the alert function, but I need this to display on the page in a textarea rather than in an alert box, I tried to get it to write to the page using a document.write function, but like I said I am new to JavaScript and unfortunately cant get any of it working.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[URL]">
<head>
<title>JavaScript Page One</title>
</head>
<BODY>
<CENTER>
<FORM name="history">
<INPUT name="command" type="text" value="">
<INPUT type="button" value="Add to List" onclick="f_store(document.history.command.value)">
<INPUT name="history" type="button" value="Show List" onclick="f_print()">
</FORM>
<P>
<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
function MakeArray( n ) {
if( n <= 0 ) {
this.length = 0;
