Creating A Database With Javascript?

View 2 RepliesThe correct syntax for an array literal would be:
this.managers [ "DOE, JANE", "DOE, JOHN", "BUSH, GEORGE W" ];
(which works)
My questioin is, how do you recreate this same syntax pulling from a
recordset containing over 3500 records such as:
aManagerName = "DOE, JANE", "DOE, JOHN", "BUSH, GEORGE W", etc...
because
this.managers [ aManagerName ];
(does not work)
could someone please point me in the right direction for creating an AJAX page that displays "live" data from a mysql database? I need the page to update its self every time data changes in a mysql table.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am creating a job ticket object that will interact with a database. It has to update the database on the fly via AJAX. Within the job ticket object, I have instances of a Component Object. Within the Component Object, I have an instance of an Editor Object. One of the methods of the Editor object is a function to edit some text and when it's submitted, it will update the database. All of that is working fine. My problem is that I need to refresh the screen with the new contents of the database. I have a method in the Component Object that refreshes the screen, but how do I call it from within the Editor Object? I believe it has to be called there because the editor object has a handler for the form submission and the AJAX function. So I'll have to reference a callback function once the AJAX request is handled, but I don't know how to call it.
I know that sounds kind of convoluted, so hopefully, this very simplified code will paint a better picture of what I'm trying to do:
Code:
Now I want to call refreshScreen, but I don't know how:

I have this C# code that is connecting to database and creating a array(list)

But I want to do something like this and can't get it:

I am a graphic designer who has been stuck with creating a voting system for my son's school newspaper website.
Here is what I have so far: [url]
You will see that it is a 1-10 voting system where the user drags the choices into the order of his preference then hits submit. It is working on on a functional level, but I have no idea how to make it work on the backend. I need to somehow accomplish the following:
1. Either get rid of the numbers on the left or somehow stop them from all becoming "1" when dragged.
2. Upon hitting "submit" the votes should be added to a database. I can create a database but I have no idea how to get these numbers into it.
3. The 10 choices will change each week for at least 13 weeks so the database needs to adapt to this.
Here is a zip file with all of the files used on the voting page: [url]
I have a calculate.js javascript file where all the function that execute the calculation is consist in this file. Now, I want to retrieve a data from the database for javascript calculation and be done in this calculate.js file. I have search a lot of methods to do this but most said cannot do this from a client-side.

what i want to happen is once the user selects the state they live in, and type in a zip code, i need the page to query the database if the user selected Ohio, and match the counties in the database with the zip code they entered, and then create a drop down list of the counties for them to select the one they live in Code:
im trying to get values from a database and assign them to icons which display on my page. The icons that are generated on the page are generated in javascript- and they do work. Howver i want icons to hold the names that are in the database/table.
how would i do this? would this be using a query result in asp to get the values from the database?? how would i do this? please provide code or guide.
then, how would i assign the database value with the icons???? ive heard javascript arrays??? how would i assign the values??
How would I make my page I have connect to a database using javascript dependent dropdowns? I have all the things I need to get the database working where it displays all the info in the database but I only want it to display based on what they select not all of it.

we had someone write this script for us a few years ago and we thought it was working fine until this week. It uses javascript to generate a dependant drop down menu eg. Depending on what the user chooses in the first drop down menu, (in this case a manual/book title) the second drop down displays the chapter/category headings that are available within that manual and then the users uploads a file that appears under that heading.
If our user adds a chapter/category heading with an apostrophe in it the script quits and the second drop down does not display the corresponding chapter headings. We are storing the info in a mysql database and use php and javascript to extract the data/build the drop down menus. Code:
Not sure if this is the correct forum as it covers data retrieved from mysql in a .js file...
I need to grab the last 5 rows from my database (2 fields per row) and list all 5 in a table but from within a .js file that I can externally link to.
I can manage the php / mysql and the output to a .php page but how can this be contained within a .js file?
I believe it is possible but after 2 days of searching on google I'm appealing for assistance.
I realise this could be done with a php include or iframe but that isn't an option and the only way available to import this data is via an external javascript script.
I have this PHP page that has the following functions...Insert Form into Table in MySQL DatabaseDelete Entry from Table in MySQL DatabaseA Link to a separate page where I Edit entries I have coded a PHP function for Delete. Looks like this:
// delete if provided if (isset($_GET['id'])) { // query to delete $query = "delete from student where STUDENT_ID =".$_GET['id']; //execute query if ($db->query($query)) {
Somewhere else I query the results and print them into a table. I added a column to this table with a Delete link for each row. Clicking on delete will execute the PHP function to delete.
The link looks like this: PHP Code:
echo "<td><a href=".$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']."?id=".$row[0]."></a></td>";
Likewise the first names also have links when clicked bring the user to another page with a form to edit form data.
The link looks like this: PHP Code:
echo "<td><a href='editstudent.php?id=".$row[0]."'>".$row[1]."</a></td>";
From here however I need to change those links to Buttons. One for Delete and another for Edit and use JavaScript functions to make them work as they originally did. So this is what I've done...
<td><form name='myform1'><input type='button' name='edit' value='Edit'
<td><form name='myform2'><input type='button' name='delete' value='Delete'
Next I need to write functions...this is where I am lost. Usually I'd know what to do when referencing elements in forms, i'd do something like document.formname.inputname, but my problem is those links or should I call them actions are replaced by those new buttons.
Should I put them into a form, or make them hidden, and then name the element? Or should my function look something like this...all I really want to do is to call the function, and have the function just do the action of loading the link (don't know if that sounds clear). I've tried to do this but it does not work.
<script>
function Delete()
{
document.myform2.action="href='$_SERVER['PHP_SELF']."?id=".$row[0]'";
document.myform2.submit();
}
</script>

I have looked everywhere I can find to look and googled until I am
cross-eyed and am hoping somebody knows what I'm doing wrong.
I have an HTML application (.hta) working fine, except one thing. I'm
trying to write to a local database from a .htm window (opened from
the main .hta window) and it doesn't work with any of the combinations
I've tried (and I admit to having tried a lot).
Here is one method I've tried:
strSQL = "Update myTable SET myField = 'myValue' WHERE myID = 12;"
var db = new ActiveXObject("ADODB.Connection");
db.Provider = "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0";0
db.ConnectionString = "Data Source='c:myDirectorymyDatabase.mdb'";
db.Open;
db.execute(strSQL);
I can easily access the information in the myDatabase.mdb and display
it on the screen.
I can ask for updated information to be input on the screen.
But stuffing that updated information back into the database is the
problem.
Since I'm stuck in an .htm window, I don't have VBScript available, do
I? If VBScript isn't available and it isn't physically possible with
Javascript, then I'll have to revert to .hta windows, where I know I
have VBScript available. But I'd rather do it all in Javascript
within the .htm so as to avoid the security message that pops up when
the .hta opens a new .hta. For various reasons I don't think it is
possible for me to do this whole project within a single .hta.
I have seen quite a few code generators over time where you are presented with a form, you fill in the various fields in the forum, and then click a Generate Code button, and the results show up in a textarea.
The code is then copied from the textarea and pasted into notepad or directly into an HTML document.
So, you may have some code that you want to generate that looks like this:
In this particular case there is 1 .js files that go to the root of the site that requires no editing.
Then there is 1 .css file that may require changes depending on user preferences. Things like margin, width, height, border and so on.
Then there is a section that goes into the Head of the document that requires no changes.
Then there is something like this would go inside a division"
<a href="address to a page" target="an iframe name"><img src="path to thumbnails/thumbnail name" border="1"></a>
Note that the above code has variable that would change based on user preferences. The way the code is presently structured it is not done as an array, however, this would substantially shorten the code depending on how many thumbnails are in it.
And finally there is another iframe section that would go inside a couple of a division. It relates to a second iframe.
Before I go any further with this, I just wanted to know if it's possible to do with javascript or is it best to do in another language.
The variables don't have to be kept in a database. What I am thinking is that the user would simply open up the HTML page, enter the data, generate the code, copy/paste and test, without closing the page. If there is a problem, he/she would simply go back in and change a variable or 2 and re-generate the code.
I have an XML document which lists some information about movies(Title, actor, etc.) I am using Javascript to pull that data and display it as html. Is it possible to create a link for each one of those titles that are pulled from the XML in my JS? Here is my code:
for (var i=0; movies.length > i; i++)
{
var Title = movies[i].getElementsByTagName("title");
var Actor = movies[i].getElementsByTagName("actor");
var Price = movies[i].getElementsByTagName("price");
results += i+1 + '. ' + ' "<span class="title"><a href="http://www.imdb.com">' + Title[0].firstChild.nodeValue + '</a></span>"' +
' starring <span class="actor">' + Actor[0].firstChild.nodeValue + '</span>' + ' and costs approximately $'+ Price[0].firstChild.nodeValue + "<br/>
";
}
document.getElementById("displayresults").innerHTML = results;
I've noticed that Google uses JavaScript to pass information to their servers for processing. I can only imagine they're passing back the HTTP request of the current request to pull the data from to track sessions, page views, time spent, etc. Does anyone have an idea of how they're actually doing this?

I want to learn more about creating functions for element events
without having to put onclick event in every tag. For example:
<script>
document.getElementsByTagName('input').onclick = function () {
alert('hello');
}
</script>
Now, I know the above does not work as I have tried it but hopefully
the idea of what I am trying to achieve here. Basically for every input
tag, when the user triggers the event (click) it will do the same
function.
Anyway, I would more so like to learn about this type of scripting
where you assign functions to events. However, I dont know what to
search for in google and the like. Where could I learn more about this?
