JQuery :: Show An Alert (or Hidden Div) When Selecting A Particular Option In A Select Element?
Jan 26, 2010
I'd like to have an alert of some type, either standard alert or a hidden div, show up when a user selects an option in a select element.
For instance, if a select element has 5 options in it and the user chooses the first one, they would get an alert that says "You have chosen the first option". I'm confident this is something that can be done with a few lines of code, but I'm not sure where to begin.
Here's the logic - I'm just not sure how to write the syntax...
If ("#select option") changes and ("#select option:eq(0):selected"), fade in the div ("alert").
i've been breaking my brain about this issue for a bit now, so here is my question.
I have a SELECT with various OPTIONS
<select id="myselect" name="myselect"> <option value='$variable' >1 - variable ammount of this option</option> <option value='$variable' id="showOption">2 - gets added once at the end of the SELECT</option>
I have the following function to pre-select an option in a select box. If I leave the alert in, the selection is made and everything is fine. If I take out the alert, it works sometimes - other times it leaves the select box on the first option. I don't want to leave the alert in.
Is there a method I can call to click on a particular <option> within a <Select>? I've got a select with several <option> lines,and I have the ID of the one I want to click, but have tried .click() but that doesn't work. It always picks the top of the list, and reading up on it, it sounds like the click isn't what I'd choose. Is there another?
I want to be able to post to a page, and one of the post values, auto selects one of the values in a drop-down box.So say i post a value 'Red' from a field called 'Colors' to a form, I would like 'Red' to be automatically selected in the 'Colors' select dropdown list.I am working with dropdown lists of many values, so need a way to automate this selection.
Basically, I need the script to hide two divs if one of the options in a <select> menu is selected.
Here's the code I've got for the Javascript: function typeoflisting() { var selectform = document.getElementById('propertytype'); if (selectform.options[selectedIndex].value == "sell") {
I have several divisions with a hidden division within them, like this:
[Code]...
With that script, if I click on one of the parent divisions ALL of the hidden divisions are shown. That's not what I want. I tried several variations of the script using (this), but I just kept getting errors.
I need "description1" to be passed as the text (or hidden text) "Disaster Relief Fund" and I need a separate hidden text "item1" to be passed as "3563".
="theOptions1 " name ="theOptions1 "> <option> [Code]....
I want to pass it to a function that will show me the selected element: $(function() { $('#theOptions' + 2)).filterOn('#theOptions' +1, { 'a': ['a'], '1': ['1'] });}); here is a part of the function:
I have a vertical navigation menu with the basics (a <ul> with four <li>) but I need one of these list elements to slide to the left and when it finishes show or slide down a nested <ul> with its own li that is now hidden with display: none. and when I click again the first list element I wish everything to close back. or alternatively to close with a timeout. so far I got to this:
I am trying to display a rel of each option as they are selected into a div below it . There are several selects of classProductAvailability on the page. When one of the selects changes, I'd like the value of the rel of the selected option to display.At first it seems to work, but only if you start by changing the last pull down menu. The trouble seems to be in the"select.ProductAvailability option:selected", this needs to be written for this instance, not all of the selects of that class on the page. How do I write that, I've tried$(this+" option:selected") but it won't take.
i have a select box, when user select value other than 'H' then the hidden <DIV> element will showed up, and when user select value 'H' the <DIV> element will hide again
the code is like this :
HTML Code: <select name="show_status"> <option value="H">Is Hidden</option> <option value="S">Show me the DIV</option>
Basically, I have written an application that runs a report based on a certain amount of parameters, one of which being date. So, the date selection is a <select></select> dropdown menu and it has the usual in it, today, yesterday, this week, last week etc. The problem is I need it to have a 'Custom' selection to run reports for custom dates. When 'Custom' is selected in the dropdown menu, two text boxes appear underneath with YYYY-MM-DD watermarked in them. I have assembled enough code from around the web to get this to work and it works fine, the problem I have is that when the user clicks off the 'Custom' option and on to a different one, I need the textboxes to disappear again.
Here is the code I am using: <script type="text/javascript"> function showhide(divid){ thediv = document.getElementById(divid); if(thediv.style.display== 'none' ){ thediv.style.display='block' }else{ thediv.style.display='none' }} .....
I have been studying php for a while now and i know that, i am now starting php oop and that going well but i have never done anything like this. Anway i am creating a booking system which at the end of the process asks who supplied your voucher which they then select a supplier.
The issue i have is my client wants it so if groupon is selected then an input text box should appear so that the user can input a security code from groupon.
To put things short, I just started with Ajax and was abel to update categories without reloading whole page. I even was abel to add the new categori to the drop down menu of categories. The problem comes when I try useing the new option.Now to expand on this. I have something like.
Code: var optn = document.createElement("OPTION"); optn.text = document.categoryForm.category.value;
I have developed my own tools for serializing form data for asynchronous calls to the server (AJAX). I have consider many times that it would be useful that when a select element has both text and option values to send both values to the server. I have thought about a couple of different ways of doing this. But first let me give an example so that there is less chance of misunderstanding.Suppose I have a drop-down list that is a select element with an option list wherein each member of the option list has both a value and a text string. as in Code:
I'm using a bit of Javascript to display content based on the dropdown selection:http://jsfiddle.net/mcgarriers/wjLXk/However, I would like it when the user selects "show two" that it shows the 2 div elements rather than specifically div2.And for "show three" it would show all 3 divs.
I have a databound control that I'm trying to add a menu that will show up only when the user rolls over the area. I am trying to append the rollover menu to each data container. I am able to append the menu, but the problem is that I cannot select the menu after it has been created to add say a click function to it. Basically, I am trying to append a menu that only shows up when a user rolls over the container (such as a <div>) and I would like to add some function to the newly created element. The problem is that I cannot assign the rollover menu an ID because although I could select them at that point it will assign the function to all of the ID's which won't really do me any good.
I wish to have options show or not show depending on the options selected previously. I think I would be right in saying this needs to be client side and think it must be javascript that is needed here. Either way what method should I use and what is the coding needed to do this. <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-W3CDTD HTML 4.01 TransitionalEN"> <html> <head> <title>Untitled Document</title> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"> </head><body> <form action="" method="get"> .....
I'm using the following code to remove an option from a select control based on a selection in a different select control and the option text in the select option that is being removed. The code works as I want it to, but I would prefer to use the option value for identifying the option to remove instead of using the option text. I've tried several different ways to do this, but can not find the proper syntax.
It should be creating a set of options for a the select statement with id "sub_class", which it does.However, it should also be setting the selected option to the value I pass as 'selsubclassId', which only seems to work in FF or Chrome. In IE, the selected item always defaults to the first option.It's pretty basic PHP and jQuery. Is IE that stupid? Do we have a workaround?
