Oct 3, 2009
Below is a script i found that would countdown the characters in a form element. I have a form that comes "pre-populated" with text. Can this script be modifed such that the counter would be initiated with the length of the text area in question?
Code:
function CountLeft(field, count, max) {

what i can use to countdown the number of chars that a user enters in a text box?
Take a look at this page:-
[URL]
If you look at the textboxes towards to bottom of the page, you will see the limit of chars i allocate for e.g. (300)
Now how can i get this value to countdown when the user enters words?

I found the below script that works fine for the actual countdown, but when the user refreshes the page, the countdown starts from 5 minutes again.
What I am trying to do, is handle users that put something in their shopping cart and then get side tracked or what ever reason and that same product then being purchased by another person when I only have 1 left.
So using PHP I am going to subtract the qty of that product by 1 and then I want the website to either put it back, if the users checkout times out, or if a normal process it is taken out permanently.
So long story short I think I need some sort of 'memory' for the javascript, so the user can't just keep refreshing and it starting from 5 minutes each time. Also it needs to be carried through to other pages.

I'm really struggling to write a bit of JS that displays the amount of time left to when your order will be shipped.For Example: If it's
1:05pm on Sunday, it would say: "Place your order within the next 1 day 2 hours 55 minutes and your order will ship Monday"
Another example: If it's 2:00pm on Saturday, it would say: "Place your order within the next 2 hours and your order will ship today"
I need to be able to change the cut off point from 4pm if needed...It must also ignore bank holiday (Ideally, it would have a section in the code where I could put all 'excluded' dates, e.g. 12/25/2009, 01/01/2010, etc. - This way I could keep it up to date).The code must take into account that we only deliver Monday to Friday (Therefore on a Friday after 4pm, it would not say delivery tomorrow, but Monday).Once the deadline hits (4pm), the countdown jumps back up to accommodate tomorrow's deadline, etc.Amazon does a very similar thing,

Im putting together a pair of countdown timers that need to restart every 24 hours. One restarts at noon and the other at midnight. Im using Keith Woods plugin @ [URL]
So far I have been able to implement his serverTime function to sync to the servers clock and instantiated 2 countdown timers. so far so good.
What I need to do now is 2 things:
1. I need to define today + X hours to countdown to instead of setting a exact date like in this example:
var noonCountDown = new Date();
noonCountDown = new Date(noonCountDown.getFullYear() + 0, 5 - 1, 28, -12);// 2011, May, 28, 12pm
2. Once today is defined dynamically I believe that may just solve the problem and reset the timer. But I may not be thinking clearly here. So I guess Im just wondering if this is how you would go about making the countdown restart upon completion.
Here is my code that Ive got so far:
$(function () {
function serverTime() {
var time = null;
$.ajax({url: 'http://www.localhost.com/projects/countdown/servertime.php',
[Code].....

I am not able to calculate the offsetwidth of the element which contains extra space in between the characters.for ex. if the element contains "A A" as a innerHTML value - if we calculate offsetwidth as 29 and also if the element contains "A A" value again I am getting the same offsetwidth as 29.While calculating the offsetwidth it is not calculating the empty space.May I know how to calculate the offsetwidth with the empty space because I need to insert the ellipsis (...) if it exceeds original width?
Code snipet
function fitStringToWidth(title,width,className) {
var span = document.createElement("span");
span.className="titleBar-Title-1";

I'm using a javascript-based countdown timer that currently uses the client's system time to calculate the countdown. I assume that this line of code is where this is performed:
Code:
I'm trying to make the script use server time instead as some people may have wrong dates/times set or live in different time zones etc.
So what I did was use a bit of php:
PHP Code:
This gives a result but now the countdown is 30 days off. I am testing on my local xampp server (which also uses system time) so there should be no discrepancy. I also tried adding
Code:
But no difference.
I can post the whole script if required but it is reasonably long.

With the code I had to acknowledge nothing had been inserted,(that is, still spaces, it was working. When I added the code to only accept alpha chars etc., I inserted numbers, nothing worked, with no error message. Would you, or can I send the whole code through for the form. I noticed that the form tags had been changed so I altered them as well according to your message.

I am quite new a web scripting and making web pages in general and I have stumbled across a problem I have as yet been unable to solve. I am trying to take the contents of a textarea box and save it to a file. This step is not to hard however the contents of the textarea is mostly latex source so it contains just about every special character you can imagine. My question is this, how do I save an exact copy of the textarea contents with special characters, carriage returns, etc to a file?

I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.
If I had a table like this...

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. How can I change it to cycle focus to the actual first and last elements? Here is a live link to my form: [URL]. Here is my script:
$(document).ready(function() {
var options = {
target: '#c_main',
success: setFocus

How does one cause a form element to appear ONLY if a certain form selection is made before it?
That is for example say there is a form element of type Radio called "format" so only if they select format value = normal then the form input fields called URL and Name are to appear as the next choices otherwise form input field Group and checklist Places are to appear as the next choices.

I'm working on a script that will produce multiple dynamic forms based on the results of an ajax request. The ajax request does a db query that will return 0 to x number of rows. For each row, a new serialized form is created. Since the forms do not exist at page load, I'm having problems getting the value of the form elements so that I can run other functions on them (update inputs and selects). I've stripped down everything so that I can show a basic example. In the example, how would I get the value of "#orderID"? The body contains a div (previousList) that has a list of items that when clicked will trigger the ajax query. It also has a div (line details) that will hold all of the forms that are generated.
<div id="lineDetails">
check it out </div>
<div id="previousFrm" class="ui-widget-header ui-state-highlight ui-corner-all">
<h3>Previous Returns/Cancels</h3>
<div id="previousList">
<ul class="previous" id="returnList">
<li id="1000997" class="names">1000997: 101853</li>
<li id="1000995" class="names">1000995: 101853</li> .....
But callingconsole.log("order line value is " + $("#orderID").val());
results in 'undefined'.

I have a form in my webpage and i am referring to the form element as formname.elementname. But when i select 5000 records from one screen and goes to other screen the form in the new screen stops recognising its element. If i do not select 500 records from screen on and directly going to screen 2 the screen works perfectly fine. Any Known bug with i think.

I'm trying to make it so that if the user sets focus to a form element
(text), it automatically sets focus to the very next form element. This
will, in effect, prevent the user from modifying the value. I know I can do
this by setting the form element to 'readonly' but that's not possible as
I'll need to modify that value elsewhere in my JS. Anyway...
I know I can do something like this:
document.forms[1].elements[4].focus().
Only problem for me with the above method is that I'm generating my form
dynamically so I won't know a) which element number the current field is and
b) which, if any, is the next element. I've tried setting up an event
handler so:
but that doesn't work. Apparently, I can't use nextSibling when working
with a form element. So I'm wondering how I can do what I'm needing to do?

Code:
a href="javascript:formSubmit(this);" class="delete" onClick="javascript:setTextValue('request', 'delete');">Delete</a>
That then goes to this funcion (please forget the setTextValue) that works which just sets a hidden input to that value for processing later
