Call Same Window All Time?
Sep 9, 2009
When I click the button to open an url (example: URL...) from a page, I can mark this url/screen name.So the next time I click on the same button, the same window will pop up instead of opening multiple windows.If I have already had the window opened not via the button, when clicking the button, it pops up a new window instead of opening up the existing. Is there a way to check the screen name or partial url of the existing window? If there is a match with the url being called from the button, it will use the existing one.

I have created and opened a child window called "checkwin" and have written some data to it. If the data is valid, I want the user to click on the 'CONFIRM' button on the child window, at which time I want the "submit()" function for the form on the parent window to be executed. If the data is invalid the user clicks on 'MODIFY' and I want focus to return to a field on the parent form. However, when I click on the "CONFIRM" or "MODIFY" buttons on the child window, nothing happens. Here is the code:
checkwin.document.write("</td></tr><tr><td align='right'><input type='button' value='CONFIRM'
onclick='opener.document.personnel_form.submit()'></td><td></td><td><input type='button' value='MODIFY'
onclick='opener.document.personnel_form.first_name.focus()'></td></tr></table>")

I have a web page a lot of thumbnail images arranged in a table. I would like the user to be able to click on the thumbnail to open a window with a larger view of the image.
So I wrote a JS function to accept a URL as the argument and open a new pop-up window with the given parameters. I need this function to potentially run multiple times from multiple links (in this case images) on the same page. However, after the first time I click the link, the function runs, and I close the pop-up, the function will not run again if I click the same or another link on the page. If I refresh the page, the function will work once and then not again. Is there a buffer I need to clear or something to reset to allow multiple links to work?
I have tried the function call in a whole slew of ways. Here's my current code (I "..."'ed out the URLs for brevity):
<script type="text/javascript">
function zoomWindow(url)
{
zoomWindow=window.open(url,"", "toolbar=no, location=no, directories=no, status=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=no, copyhistory=no, height=645px, width=550px");
[Code]....

I have made a page thats makes an AJAX call to the server gets the time and displays it. In the OPEN method i have set
req.open("GET","/timerProg.cgi?param1="+new date(),false);
I have set the last parameter as false as i am expecting a synchronous request so that time displayed should be consistent.
I am using new date() since the browser is caching my request and displaying the same output everytime as i dont know any other alternative.
The alternative so that browser does not cache the results and gives proper output each time.

Not real big with JS but am going through a bunch of books and tuts ect.
For the moment I would like to know if there is a way to call up a pop up window from a button (have that done already) but have it stay on top of the main browser when you click back on the main browser. I'm using window.open=( ... to call the pop up window but have not found how to get the new window to stay on top when working back in original browser window that the pop-up was called from. Was able to set height, width, etc of the pop-up but not able to get it to stay on top. The one reference I saw was in an older book that stated it was only available in IE.
Would also like to know how to position the pop-up window when it is called.
Did not see a way to do this but maybe just didn't know what I was looking at or put the pieces together.
Am I the only one who thinks the Rangers major league choked last night? Can't get one more strike, or just hold the opposition to only one run in an bat, twice each, to be world champs?

Now my confusion is If I close this new window I need to refresh this .js file that is i need to call the function reloaddash(1); But I dont know how to call this function on the closing of new window. Is there any option to call a function from w.indow.close or parent.opener.

I have a small window that I can call from my top menu that opens a 'radio station' to play music clips from, my site. If the user goes to a page with video/audio players on it and opens one of these tracks, I need to send a 'STOP' command to the radio window. I think the pseudo-code would look like:
Code:
if (window.open 'DashRadio')
javascript:player.sendEvent('STOP');
endif
But I cannot get the code to address the 'DashRadio' window.I open it from my top menu like so:
Code:
<a class="radmenu" href="radio.htm" title="Play DashRadio" onclick="return popup(this, 'DashRadio')">DashRadio</a>
You can see it in action at The Soundsmith, the actual radio window is this one. I would have thought this was stupid simple, but I can't get a handle to the Radio window. OTOH, I am very much a newbie in javascript, I spend a few years in FoxPro and other 3GL languages, but C-style code throws me.

I need to remember the time when user closes the window and later when he/she comes back, site will highlight latest news that happened when user was offline. So far the best solution I have found is jquery.unload (since I use jquery): it sends some data to php script (which remembers the time) via ajax when unload event triggers, so is it the best way to solve this problem?

A submit button calls the function like so:

I have some javascript that works in Firefox 2 but not in IE 7. In the
parent page, a user clicks a link and a new window is opened so that
they can maintain some values. When the user is finished, they can
click either a save or a cancel button. If the user clicks the save
button, I want the parent page to be refreshed and then the child
window to close. I have this working perfectly in FF2 but it does not
in IE. In IE, the parent page is refreshed but when it refreshes, the
screen that comes back is the same screen as the child window. When
the child window should close, it instead is being refreshed and comes
back as a blank screen. Code:

I need to have a function run only once when the user scrolls. My problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get .scroll to only check for that first scroll. I have come up with a working solution using a count, but I am hoping there is a better way to do it. I assume that it checking for a scroll constantly is just a waste of resources. My solution doesn't fix that problem, it only makes sure the function runs once.
Here is what I have:

I've got a script which is called by a keypress event, something like this:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function respondToKey(e) {
keyPressed = String.fromCharCode(e.which);
if(keyPressed == 'g'){
alert('you pressed the g key');
window.open('http://google.com');
}
}
</script>
<title>Untitled</title>
</head>
<body onkeypress="respondToKey(event)">
hit the g key to open a google window
</body>
</html>
when you hit the right key, the alert appears, but the window.open() never happens. There's not even a message in the Error Console, just nothing.
Is this a security feature? Any way I can get around it? And, if it's a security feature, is the fact that it fails silently with no error message also a security feature? Because it's rather annoying.

I have the code worked out, I just need to know how to call it from a hyperlink on an existing page. The code is as follows:
<script>
window.open('http://www.mysite.net/chat.htm', 'DummyName', 'height=350,width=520', false);
</script>
This works fine on a page by itself, but it opens the "chat.htm" page, as well as one before it that runs the code. It would be much better to just run it from a hyperlink button from the main page and not load the first unnecessary page in the first place.

I've got a page that lists a bunch of info in a large table. In each row is a link, and when that link is clicked on, an ajax call fires that returns detailed info on the item in that row. I usually display the html just to the right of the table, but the table has gotten too large. I need to display the info in a pop up now. The only thing is, how do I get the results of my ajax call into a pop up window? I've been having an awful time getting this to work.
I'm using JQuery to make the ajax call, what can I put in my success of complete event to create the pop up using the data the ajax call returns?
