View 1 RepliesI have created and opened a child window called "checkwin" and have written some data to it. If the data is valid, I want the user to click on the 'CONFIRM' button on the child window, at which time I want the "submit()" function for the form on the parent window to be executed. If the data is invalid the user clicks on 'MODIFY' and I want focus to return to a field on the parent form. However, when I click on the "CONFIRM" or "MODIFY" buttons on the child window, nothing happens. Here is the code:
checkwin.document.write("</td></tr><tr><td align='right'><input type='button' value='CONFIRM'
onclick='opener.document.personnel_form.submit()'></td><td></td><td><input type='button' value='MODIFY'
onclick='opener.document.personnel_form.first_name.focus()'></td></tr></table>")
Is it possible to call a window's function from another window? E.g. refresh ...or any other Javascript function?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a function reloaddash(1); for refresh the db.js in db.js file which sends a ajax request to the action file. In this .js itself I draw the table,td,tr for display. I dont use seperate .jsp file to draw. By onclick a link in this js file I opened a new window using window.open(URL). Now my confusion is If I close this new window I need to refresh this .js file that is i need to call the function reloaddash(1); But I dont know how to call this function on the closing of new window. Is there any option to call a function from w.indow.close or parent.opener.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a small window that I can call from my top menu that opens a 'radio station' to play music clips from, my site. If the user goes to a page with video/audio players on it and opens one of these tracks, I need to send a 'STOP' command to the radio window. I think the pseudo-code would look like:
Code:
if (window.open 'DashRadio')
javascript:player.sendEvent('STOP');
endif
But I cannot get the code to address the 'DashRadio' window.I open it from my top menu like so:
Code:
<a class="radmenu" href="radio.htm" title="Play DashRadio" onclick="return popup(this, 'DashRadio')">DashRadio</a>
You can see it in action at The Soundsmith, the actual radio window is this one. I would have thought this was stupid simple, but I can't get a handle to the Radio window. OTOH, I am very much a newbie in javascript, I spend a few years in FoxPro and other 3GL languages, but C-style code throws me.
I need to have a function run only once when the user scrolls. My problem is that I can't seem to figure out how to get .scroll to only check for that first scroll. I have come up with a working solution using a count, but I am hoping there is a better way to do it. I assume that it checking for a scroll constantly is just a waste of resources. My solution doesn't fix that problem, it only makes sure the function runs once.
Here is what I have:
When using this script on a external js, it will not run. Trying to learn js and I do not understand why it does not work, when it should. The window.onload should call the function.
[Code]...
<button onClick="return popup('<span onClick='selectShape(1, 1, 1)'>test<span>');" tabindex=Ɖ' onFocus="setFocusColor(0,3)">....</button>
This will work perfectly, but as soon as I need to pass Strings inside the selectShape function, I get stuck.
So the question is, how can I create the following and have it working
......selectShape(2, 'Tricky', ཤx5°').....
In my main window, I create a popup window. Is there a way to bring the main window back to the foreground (make the main window the focus window again) from the popup window using JS? Like from a link or a button?

I have a document that can contain any number of iframes which have
further copies of the same document (and so on). In practice, we
shouldn't ever have frames within frames, but I'd like to make the
implementation a general case.
Various of the functions in the parent document need to call themselves
in the child documents with the same parameters as they've just been
passed.
Now, I can stick a loop in each function that goes throught the
window.frames array and calls the function for each frame, but for I'd
like to write a function to do this.
It's at this point that my brain explodes. If I limit it to a single
parameter we can do:
I'm in the middle of a JavaScript class, and I've run into a problem with one assignment. ^^; I've been given a pre-written script and HTML code to work with, and am required to modify it. Here's one thing I have to do, via my instructor:
Add an "email" field to this form. This field should also validate as a valid email address. (Hint: after adding the form field to the form itself, your next step will be to expand the function named submitIt() by adding a second if statement to confirm the contents of the email field. You will want to paste into the header and use the validEmail() function which you will find in Script 7.15, highlighted in red on pages 192-3 of your textbook.)
I know how to write the code to validate an email address, but I can't figure out how to call the validEmail() function in the submitIt() function. The code I have now just blanks out all the fields when I hit "submit." Here's the part of the script with the email validation:
window.onload = loadDoc;
function loadDoc() {
resetForm(document.forms[0]);
[code].....

This is a very basic version of what I am trying to do. I have a dynamic list which is set in a table. When clicked, a function is run to set up a new list.. The reason I explain that, is that I need to keep it dynamic.Now for the problem:When I run this page, I have the button made right away, then when clicked it creates the new button. The new button should also run the function to create the new button again, but when I click it, I only receive "error on page".
I'm trying to "progressively enhance" one of my surveys using javascript. Basically, I have rating scales that make use of radio buttons as each point on the scale. Each radio button occupies its own cell in a table. I wrote some functions that will highlight cells on mouseover in a color corresponding to its position on the scale (e.g. the lowest point is red, the midpoint is yellow, the highest point is green). When a radio button is clicked, the background of the button's cell and preceding cells in the same row will be colored accordingly. The functions are working well in FireFox and Chrome (I just have to add a few lines using the addEvent function to make it compatible with IE).
The effect looks a lot nicer when I add a function that makes the visibility of the radio buttons hidden.
However, I want to make sure that there is a fallback option in case the functions that color the cells don't work for whatever reason. I would not want the radio buttons hidden in this case.
Is there a method whereby I can call the "hideRadiobuttons" function only if the other functions are successfully executed?
I am creating a little word guess game, with a random function which picks the word from an array of 10 words. The second function checks if the users' letter choice is part of the secret word. Currently, each time the checkGuess() function is called, the word is changed, probably because I am calling the wordPicker() function from within. The wordPicker randomly chooses the word, then returns that word. All I want to do is pull that word into the checkGuess function, without calling the wordPicker function as it currently does. Here is the code:
Create secret word array
var wordList = new Array("stealth", "telephone", "internet", "nickel", "marine", "instantiate", "method", "function", "television", "monitor")

I'm working through the sitepoint ajax book and had a problem with a particular chunk of code. I eventually tracked down the error and it was being caused because I had:
window.onload = Monitor.init();
instead of:
window.onload = Monitor.init;
Now, one of the sticky threads mentioned that the first is a function call and the second is a function pointer. My questions are:What's the difference between a function call and a function pointer? Why did it cause problems in this particular case? What are the general implications/issues with using one over the other?
Not real big with JS but am going through a bunch of books and tuts ect.
For the moment I would like to know if there is a way to call up a pop up window from a button (have that done already) but have it stay on top of the main browser when you click back on the main browser. I'm using window.open=( ... to call the pop up window but have not found how to get the new window to stay on top when working back in original browser window that the pop-up was called from. Was able to set height, width, etc of the pop-up but not able to get it to stay on top. The one reference I saw was in an older book that stated it was only available in IE.
Would also like to know how to position the pop-up window when it is called.
Did not see a way to do this but maybe just didn't know what I was looking at or put the pieces together.
Am I the only one who thinks the Rangers major league choked last night? Can't get one more strike, or just hold the opposition to only one run in an bat, twice each, to be world champs?
When I click the button to open an url (example: URL...) from a page, I can mark this url/screen name.So the next time I click on the same button, the same window will pop up instead of opening multiple windows.If I have already had the window opened not via the button, when clicking the button, it pops up a new window instead of opening up the existing. Is there a way to check the screen name or partial url of the existing window? If there is a match with the url being called from the button, it will use the existing one.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have some javascript that works in Firefox 2 but not in IE 7. In the
parent page, a user clicks a link and a new window is opened so that
they can maintain some values. When the user is finished, they can
click either a save or a cancel button. If the user clicks the save
button, I want the parent page to be refreshed and then the child
window to close. I have this working perfectly in FF2 but it does not

the child window should close, it instead is being refreshed and comes

I've got a script which is called by a keypress event, something like this:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function respondToKey(e) {
keyPressed = String.fromCharCode(e.which);
if(keyPressed == 'g'){
alert('you pressed the g key');
window.open('http://google.com');
}
}
</script>
<title>Untitled</title>
</head>
<body onkeypress="respondToKey(event)">
hit the g key to open a google window
</body>
</html>
when you hit the right key, the alert appears, but the window.open() never happens. There's not even a message in the Error Console, just nothing.
Is this a security feature? Any way I can get around it? And, if it's a security feature, is the fact that it fails silently with no error message also a security feature? Because it's rather annoying.
I have the code worked out, I just need to know how to call it from a hyperlink on an existing page. The code is as follows:
<script>
window.open('http://www.mysite.net/chat.htm', 'DummyName', 'height=350,width=520', false);
</script>
This works fine on a page by itself, but it opens the "chat.htm" page, as well as one before it that runs the code. It would be much better to just run it from a hyperlink button from the main page and not load the first unnecessary page in the first place.
I've got a page that lists a bunch of info in a large table. In each row is a link, and when that link is clicked on, an ajax call fires that returns detailed info on the item in that row. I usually display the html just to the right of the table, but the table has gotten too large. I need to display the info in a pop up now. The only thing is, how do I get the results of my ajax call into a pop up window? I've been having an awful time getting this to work.
I'm using JQuery to make the ajax call, what can I put in my success of complete event to create the pop up using the data the ajax call returns?
