Ajax :: Preloader For Large Background Image?
Feb 20, 2011
I have a rather large background image as part of the website layout. It's basically the header. It takes a while to load. I wonder if there is an AJAX or javascript loader that can show a loading gif before the image is loaded and then be removed so it doesn't show when you change pages next time.The CSS for the header is below.what code to use for a preloader? Would be grateful for info about this
CSS
#header{
height: 567px;
width:1000px; [code]....

So I wanted to make an image preloader, I found a tutorial and followed as best I could (in all fairness it wasn't the best tutorial), but have got a little stuck.
I think all I need to do is enter the src of the images but I can't see where to put them and if I make an array or make a series of entries.
If anyone could give me a hand I'd really appreciate it as I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to javascript.
This is what I have so far.
Code JavaScript:
function ImagePreloader(images, call-back)
{
// store the call-back
[Code].....

I want to build a loop, which cycles through a set of images and displays each image for a few seconds. In Firefox everything works fine, IE6 also executes the code but gives an script error in the status bar ("not implemented"). The relevant line of code is in red in the code below.
What could cause this ugly error in IE?
Code:
var imgpath = "imgtest/";
var errpic = 1;
var maxpic = 5;
function imgloop(actno) {
if(actno==maxpic) {
actno=1;
} else {
++actno;
}
preload(actno);
}
function imgshow(actno) {
document.mainpic.src = imgpath + actno + ".jpg";
imgloop(actno);
}
function delay(actno) {
setTimeout("imgshow(" + actno + ")", 5000);
}
function preload(actno) {
img = new Image();
img.onload = delay(actno);
img.src = imgpath + actno + ".jpg";
}

Does anyone know why my image preloader isn't working?
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
var imagesArray = new Array();
imagesArray[0] = "url/image_1.jpg";
imagesArray[1] = "url/image_2.jpg";
imagesArray[2] = "url/image_1.jpg";
function preloader(){
var preload = new Image();
for (i=0; i < imagesArray.length; i++) {
preload.src = imagesArray[i];
}
}
function swapImage(imgIndex) {
document['imgBig'].src = imagesArray[imgIndex];
}
</script>
on bodyload I call preloader()
a link swaps the image swapImage(0) for example, but the images don't preload, they still end up loading when you click the swap link.

I use this javascript in my site's header.php to preload five menu a:hover images:
<script type="text/javascript">
function preloader()
{
counter
[Code]...
in the body tag. I loads fine in IE7 and IE8, but Firefox seems to ignore it and not preload the images properly. What am I missing here? Did I make a mistake or does Firefox 3.5 just work differently with the loading of these five small images?[URL]...

I'm trying to build an image gallery and I want to shrink all the images a bit to allow for enlarging them on mouseover. I have it working fine locally, but when deployed to my server it doesn't work because the image files are still loading as the javascript executes. What I wind up with is the js using the image's alt tag's text size as the image size, which then gets resized to create a squashed image. What I want to do is preload all the thumbnail images before the the function to resize them gets called so the resize function has the proper dimensions of the images to do the transformation on. I'm using the jQuery.Preload plugin for my preloading functionality.
$(document).ready(function(){
[Code]...
My expectation of this code is that the enable_anim_resize() function will not be called until all the images are loaded, but I don't see any difference in this execution than if I just sequentially put in my resize code after the preload line and didn't use the onFinished callback for the preload method (example below:) $(document).ready(function(){ From my understanding of the documentation and examples of the preload plugin, the enable_anim_resize() function shouldn't be called until all images on the page are loaded, at which point the proper dimensions of these images should be available for correct resizing. Can anyone clue me in on what I'm missing here?

I have gotten my script to do exactly what I want it to do with one exception. I have some thumbnail images that people can mouse over and the actual image is 100px by 75px. That is what I use for my thumbnail and they reside in www.website.com/images/thumbs/image1.jpg. I have the large version of the image that resides in www.website.com/images/image1.jpg. Its actual size is 640px by 480. When I mouse over my thumbnail, I don't want the thumbnail to appear for the larger image, I want the large image to appear instead? Let me know if you need ellaboration.
Javascript
<script language="JavaScript">
function Change_Big_One(thumb){
document.getElementById('BigOne').src=thumb.src.replace("_th","")

I'm looking for a very simple image gallery solution (no lightbox or something other fance) with a large image and a x amount of thumbnails at one off the sides, where the big image change whenever another thumbnail is clicked, without page refresh. ( a fade transition would be nice)!Which Plugin, preferably as light as possible, is the most suitable for this task?

so I'm trying to get a large amount of text back to my ASP script
on the server. My large amount of text is the source to a web page, and
I want to preserve the formatting on it, ie the indenting. Before any
of this the only way I got stuff back to the server is with query
strings. Now I'm pretty sure there's other ways to get data back to the
sever besides query stings but I'm having trouble finding them. Can
somebody point me in the right direction or tell me how?

I would like to create a photo page using 'rollovers' however am
finding it increasingly hard to find any information.
I would like it to display around 10 thumbnails all leading to one big
picture so when you hover over the image with the mouse it displays the
picture in big.
I have searched the net, however have only found info on 'rollovers'
for one image.

I have a element when click, it will trigger some other elements to be selected. and those elements will trigger elements in next level.
It is a three levels hierarchy so to speak. but each element will send an ajax request when selected. Those requests will become out of control especially when I repeatedly click the root element.
Can I queue those XHR request in a queue and send them one by one? or maybe add a delay before send so that they can collect their information into one batch request and send one request after that.

I am building a large registration form. In this form, a sponsor/educator must register himself or herself and then may add up to 6 more " delegates" in pairs. The first two pairs registration info on the form is shown by default. I need to hide the other two pairs until when/if the user clicks on a button to add two more delegates at a time. I used javascript to show or hide the parts of the form that I had put into two divs and adjusted the css display attribute. However, my problem was that, if the user filled out the sponsor/educator section and the first two delegates, and then decided to add two more, when the user clicked on the button to show the part of the form for delegates 3 and 4, it reset all the previous visible form fields to empty. Not good. So, I thought, maybe AJAX.
I created the request object (I am a relative novice at AJAX), had it grab a text file with the code to insert into my target div, in this case a div with id = "delegate3and4". Surprisingly however, it still reset the previous form fields to empty. Am I misunderstanding how AJAX is supposed to work? I figured that, because it does not refresh the page that this would not happen. In fact, to test this out, I created a simple page from scratch with just a single input field and then used AJAX to insert the file in a div after this field and it did not reset the previous input. So, I am totally confused about why this would be happening on my live page. The page is a php page as it submits the form to a php script for processing but I don't think this should make a difference.

I have also Googled this issue plenty of times, but nothing seems to be working 100% and/or the "solution" found is several years old.I have a text field on a webpage where a user enters in a URL to an image and then clicks a button to preview it. I want to restrict the image's size, so if it is larger than 600x450 then it will be automatically resized to those dimensions.The problem I have with this code is that the myImage.onerror event always fires if the image is large. My question is: how do you make the script "wait" for the image to load completely before trying to retrieve the width and height? Or, even better, how do you prevent the image failing to load?
Also, I know how to get the image's dimensions via PHP; however, according to the getimagesize() function's documentation on php.net, the function downloads the image to the server before retrieving the image's width and height, which could be potential trouble if a malicious or ignorant user enters a URL to an excessively large image.

<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8"/>
<link href="facebox.css" media="screen" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="css/example.css" media="screen" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<script src="[URL]" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="facebox.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$('a[rel*=facebox]').facebox({
loadingImage : 'images/loading.gif',
closeImage : 'images/closelabel.png'
})})
</script> </head>
I have downloaded css and jquery files and places in relevant folder, also given images.
<a href="<?=WEB_PATH?>/images/large/<?=$Row['file_name']?>" rel="facebox">
This is where my large image files are saved.

I am building a simple t-shirt creator app for my shop and I am using the interface.js library: [URL].. docs/drag to drag/drop and re-size the graphic on the shirt background image.
Once the user has chosen a spot to put the graphic, how do I save the background image of the t-shirt with the image they dropped in the correct spot? Like, to merge the two graphics in place?

I have a div set up like this
<div id='y' style='background-image: url(./randomcolor.php?ibase=
<?
php echo $entity
->
[code]....
I am having an issue with setting the background-image of a another div #x to the background image of #y.Correct me if I am wrong but I think you would do this in a simple case by saying
$
(
'#x'
).
[code]....
So when it does it, it is getting the URL of the generator (I logged it. what is actually being passed is [URL] This would require a server call to generate a new image, In this particular application, even if it wasn't exactly the image y had it would be acceptable. But it's not doing it. It is not getting any image at all. Am I doing something wrong, i.e. is it supposed to just work? I would think not, since the page has already been rendered. This is almost an ajax situation but I don't know how to do it for an image. I don't really want to generate a new image anyway, I'd be very happy to get the one that's already there. How would I access the actual image already attached to y and not do another server call?
