I spent several hours struggling with dynamic form fields added with
appendChild or innerHTML not POSTing on submit in Firefox. The only
way I found to make it work is to append any created fields to a DIV
within the form. Code:

What advantage does adding elements via document.createElement have over writing markup naturally with innerHTML?
[Code]...
The latter method has much more overhead and is considerably more difficult to write with. However, there must be an advantage of some sort to doing it this way, but it's not exactly clear to me why.

I am encountering this problem with Firefox, but no problem in IE. I have in a hidden <div> dynamically generated select options intended for re-use by dynamically created forms on page.
For Example:
<div>
<option value="1">xxx</option>
</div>
With javascript, when I use getElementById() to get the <div>, and then get the innerHTML, on IE I get the content just as they were generated out, and I was able to put this into an empty <select> and everything works. But when I try the same in Firefox, the innerHTML returns only the text part of the content. The "<option value="1">" part has been stripped off. Wondering if there's a solution to get around this?

I've got simple script which adds to pointed DIV another DIV which contains
1 combobox (select) and textbox (input) - it's a AddNewRow() function. Every
field has got unique ID (acording with script below). There is also
getNewDig(int) function, which change value of appropriate input field
(checks value of select field and put it to input e.g. if in Pr_1 value has
changed than that value is set to the Number_1 input).
Problem is, values of existing fields are refreshing when new row is added
(to check it: click Add New Row, set value in select field, click Add New
Row).
Problem does not occur with IE. I suppose it's caused by innerHTML which
refresh whole document.getElementById( 'Tutaj' ). Code:

I am adding drop down boxes to a div using javascript on a user action, if these boxes are assigned a value by the user then the user adds more boxes the values previously selected are cleared.
It does not happen if an option is selected in the HTML when the page is loaded.

I am having a problem with the last results. I can't seem to be able to
get the input2A and input3A to appear. I don't seem to have a problem
with the show and hide after a number is entered and submitted. If
anyone can answer my problem I will be greatly appreciated with a
prize. I actually have submitted it more than once and I haven't had
anyone been able to answer it yet. Code:

I am working on some JavaScript that dynamically adds rows to a table
in response to a button click. A new row does appear on the screen
when the button is clicked. However, that table to which a row has
been added is itself contained within an outer table (to handle the
desired screen layout). That outer table does not properly grow to
contain the new size of the table to which the row was added. (More
specifically, I have sporadically seen the outer table grow correctly,
but then most of the time it does not grow as desired.) Is there
something that needs to be done in the code that will make the right
thing happen? (This phenomena appears in Netscape 7.1 -- things work
correctly under Internet Explorer 6.0)
A second anomoly concerns a button that appears in the newly added
row. An "onClick" event is associated with that dynamically added
button. The newly added button works correctly under Netscape 7.1 but
fails to work under Internet Explorer 6.0. (It is like Explorer will
not honor an event that is set in place by code that is dynamically
created after the page is loaded.) Shown below is an excerpt of the
code that is attempting to set up the desired button. Is there
something apecial that must be done in the code to get Explorer to
handle this properly (I have tried spelling things as both "onclick"
and also "onClick")?
tbldata = document.createElement("TD");
item = document.createElement("BUTTON");
v = 'doaction("Edit",' + n +')'
item.setAttribute("name","Edit");
item.setAttribute("onclick",v);
textitem = document.createTextNode("Edit");
item.appendChild(textitem);
tbldata.appendChild(item);

Just discovered ClueTip and it looks exactly what I need. However, I have a question about how to implement it.I have the following bit of code where I create a <div>. I'd like to attached a ClueTip tooltip to each div I create.Here is my code to create a div. I actually create many divs in a loop via an ajax call to retrieve info from a database...so, the id name and coordinates are retrieved and the new div is appended to a enclosing <div> named "jpanel".

In our class we were required to create an application wherein you can dynamically add elements and use them.
Some of the codes are actually based on this link: [URL]

I'm a complete beginner to JS and have been playing around with a few test projects but I am stuck with one particular part.It simply creates a new text box if you press the Add Text Box button, and removes the text box if you press the Remove Text Box button.What I want to do now is add a usable value to each text box (e.g. the first text box will have the value "tb1", the second "tb2" and so on - so that I can post the data to use it further on.

Im using the jquery validation plugin: [URL] The forms are generated dynamically using php, with the standard class 'required' the plugin looks for, however when it comes to adding my custom rules i want them to be dynamic, as the name/id attributes are generated based on what the id of the form is: i.e. the form ID is #comp so an input would have a name attribute of comp_forename, comp_surname so basically the validator is initiated by looking in the body for a form: var form_id = $('body form').attr('id'); Then how can icancatante the strings to created the name attributes dynamically in the rules here:

i have some code as follows
[code]
$(document).ready(function() {
$('a.poplight[href^=#]').click(function() { /do something });
});
[/code]
when i click on a <a> tag with class poplight this works fine. But when i add another anchor tag dynamically to my page (without a page reload, via ajax) like below...
[code]
$('#Table tr:first').before('<tr><td><a href="#?w=700&v=edit&id=23" rel="popup_name" class="poplight" >click here</a></td></tr>');
[/code]
and if i click on that anchor tag that was no placed on top of my first row it does not call the click event instead i can see the variables i tried passing through that anchor tag on my url.
any clue why this is happening.... i donot get any errors as well on firebug.

I want to build a dynamic list of items with jquery but am unsure how to add an index number to each of the items i create so that i can reference them to edit or delete them for example. So far, I have the following which just creates the items and appends or prepends them to the element depending on whether one item exists already. I just need a way of adding an attribute so I can then reference the current item when clicked and remove it. What would be the simplest method to use?
//create list items
if ($('.mylistitem').length) {
$('.myList-box').prepend('<div class="mylistitem"><div class="mylistitem-image"><img width="30" height="40" src="[URL]"/></div><div class="mylistitem-title">' + title + '</div><div class="mylistitem-options"><a href="javascript:removetitle();">Delete From List</a></div>');
} else {
$('.myList-box').append('<div class="mylistitem"><div class="mylistitem-image"><img width="30" height="40" src="[URL]' + titleid + '"/></div><div class="mylistitem-title">' + title + '</div><div class="mylistitem-options"><a href="javascript:removetitle();">Delete From List</a></div>');

I have made a script where you can add extra fields, and next to the row is a span that automatically displays the outcome from a calculation of three fields in that row. i.e. Q x (B - A) = total. Here is the bit that does the calculation:
function advCalc(selected) {
var result = Number(document.formmain.elements["quantity"+selected].value) * (Number(document.formmain.elements["provideamount"+selected].value) - Number(document.formmain.elements["supplyamount"+selected].value)) ;

So I load a form through a XMLHttpRequest and set the content of a div to the returned data, which contains a form, problem is I can't submit this form when it is requested through Javascript, but I can submit it when it is standalone.
I am thinking that this is probably a security setting in the browser to prevent XXS attacks? But I am not sure, why doesn't it work? It is nothing fancy just a regular old HTML POST form and a Javascript AJAXey request.

I am trying to update a <p> tag using the .innerHTML property. The <p> tag is set-up as
<p id="p_id">
<form id="form_id">
<![CDATA[Other form stuff here]]>
</form>
</p>
And my JavaScript
document.getElementById('p_id').innerHTML = 'my message here.'
alert(document.getElementById('p_id').innerHTML);
When I call that JS code, it adds "my message here" in front of the form and only alerts "my message here", not the form code.
When I add text by default in front of the form code, that gets replaced but the form still remains.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting around forms, innerHTML and div's.
What i'm trying to accomplish is simple done, and i've found a solution to the problem but not one i'm happy with.
ok, so to get down to it...
I have a form, with two radio boxes, 1 select box and 1 submit button.
Now, while a certain value in the select box is selected I have an additional input box appearing for further information/input (duh!).
Anyways, the input field appears, looking spiffy...but, when i submit the form, the input field is ignored.
Now, the way i'm doing it is by using innerHTML and the <div> tag. Code:
