AJAX :: Adding "selected" To Dynamic Drop Down

Sep 26, 2010

I am in the process of adding a dynamic dropdown of cities that populates based on the county/state selected by the user.

I have managed to get it working but the problem I have is that when the user goes to edit their details this dropdown list does not:

1) Show the dynamically generated list of cities because the list uses the javascript onchange element i.e onChange="AjaxFunction(this.value);"

2)Have the city value that is stored in the database selected as default.

Here is the Ajax/Javascript used:

Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
function AjaxFunction(cat_id)
{
var httpxml;

[Code].....

The first problem is to get the list to dynamically populate on page load and the second is to include the users selected city as "selected" in the options created by javascipt and ajax functions.

Script Does Not Work With Firefox Latest Version

Feb 9, 2011

"Javascript does not work with Firefox". Below a very very simple html with Javascript. Using MS IE v8 I have found that the code works very well. Filling nothings in the textfield "your name" and subsequently clicking on the button and a window will popup with the text "Sorry, you forget to: ...". However, using Firefox instead...it does not work. A bit remarkable; the Javascript is very easy! Could you please check what went wrong? I have activated Javascript in the Firefox browser and the security is ok for Javascript.

[CODE]
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Language" content="nl">
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=windows-1252">

<title>Inloggen van een nieuw lid</title>
<script language = "Javascript">
function checkDate() {
var message = "Sorry, you forget to: ";
var voornaam = document.getElementById("voornaam");
var result = true;

if (voornaam.value.length == 0) {
message+="- You have not typed your name ";
result = false;}
if(!result) {alert(message)};
return result; }
</script> </head> <body>

Script No Longer Working In New Version Of Firefox

Oct 28, 2009

Why this script no longer works in firefox? It works in the older version but since it got updated to version 3.5.3 it doesnt work anymore. It works fine in IE.

<script type="text/javascript">
function show_popup(s_file, msg, msg2, msg3, w, h) {
var p=window.createPopup()
var pbody=p.document.body
pbody.style.backgroundColor="white"
pbody.style.border="solid white 6px"
pbody.innerHTML="<table cellpadding=0 bgcolor=white style='border:0px solid #777777'><tr><td colspan='3'><img src='images/"+s_file+"'></td></tr><tr><td align=left><font face='times' color='black' size='1'><i>"+msg+"</i></font></td><td align=left><font face='times' color='black' size='1'><i>"+msg2+"</i></font></td><td align=left><font face='times' size='1' color='black'><i>"+msg3+"</i></font></td></tr></table>"
p.show(15,15,w,h+40,document.body)
}
</script>

This is then what I add for each of the images ->>
<a href="javascript:show_popup(image.jpg','Image Example ','acrylic on masonite','62 X 48 inches',430,564)"><img src="images/thumbs/image_thumb.jpg" alt="Images" width="100" height="128" border="0" align="center" valign="TOP" /></a>

Code Doesn't Seem To Work In Chrome Or The New Version Of Firefox?

Apr 26, 2011

I'm developing a relatively simple html based site for a gallery. Small images of paintings link to a popup window with a larger image of the painting. The problem is that the javascript code doesn't seem to work in Chrome or the new version of Firefox (where it only opens a new blank tab), though it works perfectly in Safari. This is my code (for vertical images):

var viewerWin=0;
function windowPopVer(URLStr)
{
if(viewerWin)
{

What am I doing wrong? We've changed the settings in Chrome and Firefox so that it enables javascript and all that. Why won't this work?

JQuery :: IE (any Version) Is Not Parsing Returned JSON Via GetJSON Or $.ajax Calls?

Jul 6, 2009

I am trying out $.ajax instead of getJSON for debugging purposes. Because getJSON did not report an error in IE (6,7 or 8) and I am
trying to figure out why a jQuery plug-in is not painting my returned images to the screen in IE but is in other browsers. So I tried this. Interestingly enough, it hits the error event in IE but not firefox, safari and the rest and I don't know why (this code works great and renders my data just fine in FireFox and the rest). I know my returned json is valid:

$.ajax({
type: "GET",
url: "http://localhost:59396/sss/sssHandler.ashx?
action=getproducts&ids=" + ids,

[code]....

I don't know what else to do to troubleshoot why IE is having so much trouble with the returned JSON or just executing the function(data)
using either getJSON OR this. I have set the headers not the cache also in the response. IE refuses to enter my function(data) on the response.

[
{
"ImageTag": "u003cdiv class="CarouselItem
"u003e<p><img src="http://www.xxx.com/image/

[code]....

Same result. Firefox and the rest had no issue. IE still exited the $.ajax and my error method kicked in. No rhyme or reason whatsoever and I tried the IE Dev tools... nothing. About the only thing I get is this: Line: 163 Error: System error: -1072896658.Line 163 which is simply the line: function() { alert("An error has occurred. try again."); This has got to be the most f*d up situation I've been in and I need to get this working! I just cannot understand why IE can't parse a getJSON or $.ajax response, that is impossible or else there would be a huge meltdown with jQuery.

Adding Dynamic Rows To Table

Jul 23, 2005

I am working on some JavaScript that dynamically adds rows to a table
in response to a button click. A new row does appear on the screen
when the button is clicked. However, that table to which a row has
been added is itself contained within an outer table (to handle the
desired screen layout). That outer table does not properly grow to
contain the new size of the table to which the row was added. (More
specifically, I have sporadically seen the outer table grow correctly,
but then most of the time it does not grow as desired.) Is there
something that needs to be done in the code that will make the right
thing happen? (This phenomena appears in Netscape 7.1 -- things work
correctly under Internet Explorer 6.0)

A second anomoly concerns a button that appears in the newly added
row. An "onClick" event is associated with that dynamically added
button. The newly added button works correctly under Netscape 7.1 but
fails to work under Internet Explorer 6.0. (It is like Explorer will
not honor an event that is set in place by code that is dynamically
created after the page is loaded.) Shown below is an excerpt of the
code that is attempting to set up the desired button. Is there
something apecial that must be done in the code to get Explorer to
handle this properly (I have tried spelling things as both "onclick"
and also "onClick")?

tbldata = document.createElement("TD");
item = document.createElement("BUTTON");
v = 'doaction("Edit",' + n +')'
item.setAttribute("name","Edit");
item.setAttribute("onclick",v);
textitem = document.createTextNode("Edit");
item.appendChild(textitem);
tbldata.appendChild(item);

Dynamic CSS-creation (Firefox)

Jun 2, 2006

can anybody tell me how you can create a new stylesheet inside a
(X)HTML page with JavaScript and Firefox, if the stylesheet is only
available as a variable value, like:

var CSSStyle = "rect {fill: lightgrey;}
circle {fill: red;}
polyline {fill: none; stroke: red; stroke-width: 0.3;}
text {font-size: 2.5px;}
text.text-x-axis {text-anchor: middle;}
text.text-y-axis {text-anchor: end;}"

So far, the only workaround I found, was to link an empty stylesheet to
the page

<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="./empty.css"/>

and then use the insertRule method on this stylesheet for every single
rule from the variable (indexOf('}') / substring()).

Dynamic Content Firefox InnerHTML?

Sep 28, 2010

I am encountering this problem with Firefox, but no problem in IE. I have in a hidden <div> dynamically generated select options intended for re-use by dynamically created forms on page.

For Example:
<div>
<option value="1">xxx</option>
</div>

With javascript, when I use getElementById() to get the <div>, and then get the innerHTML, on IE I get the content just as they were generated out, and I was able to put this into an empty <select> and everything works. But when I try the same in Firefox, the innerHTML returns only the text part of the content. The "<option value="1">" part has been stripped off. Wondering if there's a solution to get around this?
