XMLHttpRequest Ready State 4 Never Reached?
Nov 4, 2009
I've written the below code which submits to a servlet, does a bit of processing and returns a JSON object. I'm reaching the servlet, but I never reach the alert("ready()") in the JavaScript.It looks as though the readyState never actually reaches state 4.
function fetchhits() {
var httpRequest = null;
var url = "http://localhost:8080/Json/FetchTopHit?amount=1";
[code]....

i am getting state 0 error on XMLHTTPRequest. I am using POST method to get some information from a link hosted by the client. I am calling from a mobile application. I have added a html file in an android application and from that html file i am calling post method on the client web link using XMLHTTPRequest object. I got the information from this site that its due to cross domain access issue. And get the html file from the web server to fix this issue. But in my scenario i cannot do this. The html file is embedded in the android application.

I have a link that when clicked pops up hidden div and loads it with the results of an ajax function ( below ). The problem is that no mater what the line if (req.readyState == 4) never evaluates to true. I have used the same code in many other locations on the same site, but for some reason this time the popup opens, but the ajax does not return anything.Please take a look at the code below, this is a 'simple' version of what's going on. I can not take credit for all of this code as most is taken from examples on the interweb, but it has worked, but now does notjavascript
Code:
var req;
var doesNotSupport = true;

To say I'm new to JavaScript is a bit of an understatement so bear with me. I have a site set up with a variety of layers of toggles. When you enter the site all of the items are collapsed and you click the headings to expand. Each of the toggle-able items have ids. It works great for users who start at the homepage.
However, when I send people to any of the inner topics, all they see is the initial collapsed state of the site. I want to be able to provide a URL that will set the toggle to open, and show all of the content for that section on entry.
Here is my code and js, can anyone point me in the right direction?

I have a quiz with a timer. Once the timer reaches zero an alert box pops up saying Too Late and stays on the same screen. The problem is the user can still enter in an answer, how to auto submit after you click ok on the alert box. Here is my count function.
function count() {
tooLate = 0;
n--;
[Code].....
So I am just trying to call the submitform function after the timer has reached 0 and the alert box message displays which I have tried but seems to not work.

I am attempting to make a menu that has a background image that changeswhen you rollover or click a menuitem. I've got the hover effect working fine with CSS, but am trying to implement the click event via jquery with the following:
CSS:
div.SustainResourcesMenuTabs
{ background-image: url('/images/departments/commdev/sustainability/menu_tab.jpg');
}[code]....
My process is to reset the entire menu to the inactive state, then switch on the active state for the item that was clicked. Eventually, the item that was clicked will display its corresponding body section as well. I've tried using the CSS pseudo-class "active", but since the entire div is the link, that is unavailable. I've also tried multiple variations of addClass/removeClass, toggleClass, and setAttribute/removeAttributebut nothing hasworked so far.

To synchronize the vertical scroll of the following "left" and "right" divs only when the beginning and end of each "blahN " div is reached inside the left div. Both divs have a finite height, which basically insures that the scroll bar will be present. The left div outputs text-based content from various database procedures while the right div outputs images corresponding to the text. The text is nothing more than pages from the website and as you can see inside the left div, each is encapsulated within a subsequent div with an incremental class (i.e.- "blah1", "blah2", and so forth.) When one scrolls through each "blah" content inside of the left div, I would like the right div to output the image that corresponds to the text (again, this data comes from the website through previous transactions.) Here's an example: John Doe comes to the website and starts reading the various pages listed inside the left div.
There might be 2 pages loaded inside the left div, or, there might be 20, but in any event, when he loads the entire page containing all this, the first page will be displayed along with the first pages' image. When he scrolls past this first entry (page) inside the left div, the corresponding image related to it inside the MySQL database is then output as well over in the right div and so on with every other "blahN " piece of content. Right now, the jQuery I'm using has synchronized both divs to scroll at the same time, regardless of specific waypoints that might be reached per-scrolling.
Here's the basic markup I'm using right now:
<div class="left">
<?php
foreach($obj->field_page_objs as $k1=>$v1){
[code]....
few other websites and the responsiveness has been minimal-to-nonexistent. I'm sure this is because of both how I've explained the problem combined with the overall difficulty (or niche-ness) it introduces. In any event, I apologize beforehand if this carries over into this website.

Yesterday I started rewriting the xmlhttprequest functions to an oo equivalent, but as it turns out, I don't get it right:
Code:
function Request()
{
this.req=init();
this.req.onreadystatechange = this.processedRequest;
//addEventHandler/attachEvent alternative
//doesn't work either
function init()
{
try
{
if(window.XMLHttpRequest)
return new XMLHttpRequest();
else
return new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
catch(e)
{
alert(e);
}
}
}
Request.prototype.send=function(url)
{
this.req.open("GET", url, true);
this.req.send(null);
}
Request.prototype.processedRequest=function()
{
if (this.req.readyState == 4)
{
if(this.req.status == 200)
{
response=this.responseXML;
res=response.getElementsByTagName('result')[0].firstChild.data;
func=response.getElementsByTagName('feedTo')[0].firstChild.data;
eval(func+'('+result+')');
}
else
{
alert(this.req.statusText);
}
}
}
expected usage:
Code:
var x=new Request();
x.send(url); //the processing function
//the eventtrigger should activate the callback function
//when the xml has been returned
It seems like the problem is that I don't get to my "this.req" in the processedRequest function. Can anyone see where the problem lies, it has been turning me crazy all weekend already.

Ive been playing around with xmlHTTPRequest and was wondering if i was
programming a part of my code wrong.
what i want to do is have the browser access another part of my site
using xmlhttprequest.
however, when i use xmlhttp.open("POST",
'http://xml.mysite.com/test.php')
it fails, but if i use xmlhttp.open("POST",
'http://www.mysite.com/test.php') it works. Is access to another url
restricted in xmlhttp?

I have something like this:
var xmlDoc=document.implementation.createDocument("", "", null);
but in opera xmlDoc.load(...) won't work, so I use:
XMLHttpRequest, and I have all needed code... let's say it works...
So I got serviceRequest.responseXML and is there a way to initialize xmlDoc
in my case ? I am asking because I have code that uses xmlDoc.load(...) in
FF and all code that's need to futher work with XML written. So this would
be comfortable for me to use xmlDoc instead of creating everything from
start.

I'm fetching some HTML files with XMLHttpRequest and dumping the
ResponseText into block elements; works fine except that single and double
quotes are being displayed as question marks (inside of a black diamond in
FireFox)
What's going on ? What is the workaround ? I've tried this:
divElement.innerHTML = x.responseText.replace(/?/g, "'")
but it does nothing ... even if it did work it would not be distinguishing "
from '

I would like to use the xmlhttprequest-object to send an http request
to my server. The http request is used to switch the light on through
home automation.
However it's not working, and I can't find the problem.
Could it be that the apache-server is located on 192.168.0.21 and that
the http request is sent to 192.168.0.21:8080?

if (request===null) {

request.onreadystatechange = state_change;
request.open(this.method, url, true);
request.send(null);
}
}
var req = new XML_request(function(response) {
response = response.responseXML
alert(response.getElementsByTagName('blah')[0].firstChild.data);
});
req.get('index.php?mode=blah&a=response')
i didn't like the examples I found so this is suitable.. I only tested in ie and firefox though.. so let me know what I may be missing.. or criticism in general.

I'm working on an application that uses ajax and we are going to have a version that people with browsers that don't support the XmlHttpRequest object. My problem is what's the best way to check this.
I have tried the following
var xmlreq = new new XMLHttpRequest();
if (!xmlreq){
// handle the browser stuff
}
In netscape 4.7 this results in an error that I don't seem to be able to recover from and I don't think this is the best approach to this problem.

I'm loading a javascript within a webpage on domain A from domain B like this:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript" src="http://domainB/path"></script>
Works perfectly, the script loads and executes. But calling XMLHttpRequest.open accessing Domain B from within this script doesn't work: Permission denied.
Now, I know of the cross domain security rule, but why can I load a script from Domain B, but not make a request with XMLHttpRequest to Domain B? Alle the counter scripts do exactly this... Any advice?
