a JSON text in order to use eval() to parse it?
For example:
var json = "{a: 'abc', b: 'def'}";
var obj1 = eval("(" + json + ")"); //ok!
var obj2 = eval(json); //syntax error!
why are parenthesis necessary?

JQuery :: Can't Parse JSON Results
Jan 4, 2012I am having difficulty displaying a specific key from a json file. I am trying to parse the following json file using query:

I am using this type of function to parse the data:
$.each(json.route,function(i,route){
<!--add a paragraph tag to the results div and enter the speficied key-->
$("#results").append('<p>Result: '+ route +'</p>');
Using this I am able to print all the keys from the route but I am not able to print a specific key.
What I want to do is just get the results for the key "fuelUsed" using this method:
$("#results").append('<p>Result: '+ route.fuelUsed+'</p>');
But I never get back any data that way. Am I not specifying my key correctly?

The array I'm getting back is actually this one:

I believe this one is valid JSON, but my attempts to parse it are always failing when I do it like this:

The above code displays 'null', and the documentation says a null occurs when the JSON isn't valid. so, what's going on ?
I need to know the codes to parse as well as access the values in the parsed response.

Aug 5, 2009I am submitting a form via AJAX. The form may either return HTML (when there are input errors) or JSON (successful response). If during request I specify "dataType: 'json'" then HTML doesn't get thru correctly, if I don't then JSON is displayed as plain text. I am sending the "application/json" header back correctly. I don't understand why doesn't jQuery just pick that up and parse it as JSON? Is there an option? Is there something I can do to make this work?

Apr 18, 2011I have a wordpress site with dropdown menus that currently are working with jQuery, now the issue is when trying to dynamically update the menus and parsing it with json.parse. For some reason I am not getting any data back of the following code (if I try to alert (data) I just get a blank box).

and just print out the function, than I would get the data on screen. now if I was to access my php file directly than that fill will output an error due to missing plugins.. I guess that is just how wordpress sorta work.. but again I do get the info that i need by just printing out the function. Do anyone knows a work around for this? I am kinda pulling my hairs out.
Error Using JSON.parse With Internet Explorer
Jan 4, 2010I have client-side javascript that is using AJAX to receive JSONs from a server-side database-querying php script. My application is working fine in firefox and chrome. IE8 is giving me trouble, however. The error I get is:

Does anyone know if their is a different function or library include I need for IE8 in order to work with JSONs, more specifically JSON.parse()?

The table should be dynamic with previous and next buttons and the table should populate the results according to the JSON and each page should have 20 entries and then the remaining entries should go on the next page and I should be able to go back and forth in the table using previous and next respectively.tell me the exact code of how to start with getting JSON from the API and then write the JSON data in the form of dynamic table with pagination.

Sep 11, 2010I have a html file that I want to load, loop through the json data and for each json entry I want to add a new block of the html and insert the json data into the matching div/class of the html. json looks like this:
{"Super" : [{"Name" : "John Doe", "Age" : "30"}, {"Name" : "Jane Doe", "Age" : "40"}]};
html looks like this:
<div class="Name"></div><div class="Age"></div>
So for each json entry of name/age, I want to insert that into the html, and then add another row, until all json data has been fetched. After this I want to insert all of this into #box, which is just a divthat should contain that html. Looping like this obviously does not work, since I just keep replacing the same html through the loop.

In the "RM" array there are three objects, each a single name/value pair. The name of the array[0] object ("DEFAULT") is identical to the name of the array[2] object. No results are returned by the getJSON call. Since each object is a separate array value, there shouldn't be any object name collision problems. Note that if I change the name of the array[2] object to "DEFAULT3", the data structure is handled properly.

Jun 1, 2011I am developing a web application in java (jsp's and servlets). For the project I am working on I will need to develop an html data entry screen and the code to load data into the screen, and then save the data back to the back-end database.
How to do the following:
Read the data out of the database (JDBC, no problem) in a servlet.
Put the data into the appropriate form for returning to the data entry screen, which will be a jsp. (Is JSON the right choice for passing the data from the servlet to the jsp?)
In the jsp, parse the returned data and populate the HTML form elements (text fields and combo boxes). When a button is clicked, pull the data out of the form elements and return to a servlet for saving back in the database.
JSON Data Will Not Process
Nov 3, 2009FYI, I am using jQuery 1.2.3, and the latest version of the jQuery Form plugin from URL...I am able to run the ColdFusion page on the server side to get the data, and Firebug is showing that I'm getting a response...but I'm unable to populate the JSON data into selected form fields on the page.I have two HTML forms; one for the user to input his/her ID number if available, and a longer form to collect more demographic info.Why is it not working? My forehead is getting bloody from banging it against this wall.

May 4, 2010I think I have a varialbe scope problem here, but I can't figure it out. What I'm trying to do is extract a piece of data from a JSON file using a variable established earlier in the script as one of the keys.
When I run this script I get the alert that lets me know that the variable "theMappableItem" has been established correctly. I click "OK" in the alert box. Then in my console (in firebug) I see a line showing that the .json file has been gotten successfully. Next in the console is an error that says:
