Tracking Mouse Clicks In IFrame With External Site?
Oct 18, 2009
I'm kind of new to javascript. Is their anyway to track right mouse click within an iframe that is linked to an external site (i.e. [URL])? I'm trying to see if I can have a alert window say "This is an image" when I right click on an image within the iframe.

I need to target a certain div and all its links and on click of any of those links load a tracking page in an iframe. Right now, if this function can just load the same file into that iframe, that will be great. In the future, if I could loop through all the links and get their name attribute (which will have the specific link to an individual tracking file), and load that into the iframe, this would be the most desirable.

I came across some simple jQuery that does a nice job styling checkboxes but it's doing things that I wouldn't expect to work. The idea behind the code is to set the original checkbox element to display:none and then follow the checkbox element with a <label> element that has a background image of what you want the new checkbox to look like. jQuery assigns a change handler to the checkbox elements that looks at the current state and adds a new class to the label, one with a "checked" background image, if the state is going to checked and removes this class if the state is going to unchecked. The basic jQuery is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#member_cb").change(function(){
if($(this).is(":checked")){
[code]....
and the HTML is
<input type='checkbox' id='member_cb' class='CheckBoxClass' name='memberChecked' value='yes'/>
<label id='Label2' for='member_cb' class='CheckBoxLabelClass2' >Membership</label>
You can see it work on the pay form at [URL] by clicking any of the three checkboxes there. The thing that puzzles me is that when you click in the area where the original checkbox was, the click event seems to pass through the image that is there now and be passed on to the checkbox element that has a display:none style now. My experience with HTML has been that mouse clicks don't pass through elements. That is, if you place something over a clickable element, you can no longer click it.

Use jquery to track visitors mouse movements and clicks and then playback. Here is the proof of concept:Uses: jQuery and php. jquery records mouse moves and clicks, sends data via ajax to a php page, the php page writes the mouse events to a text file.When you go to the playback page, jquery connects to a php page that reads the text file and moves the mouse accordingly

I am building a website that offers cash to users for completing offers. Such as signing up on a site and you get $1. I have very little javascript knowledge. But I do know that it can be used to "listen" for mouse clicks and such. So I am wondering how to go about it. Can I somehow, listen for mouseclicks a user makes, tracking what they clicked on, when they clicked on it, etc. inside a iframe, then pass the values thru php into my DB? I have also just started learning about cookies too, The other 'offer' sites I am a member of, and I would like to duplicate, (ex. www.inboxdollars.com) say sit uses cookies to track user actions for verifications.

Im generating multiple iFrames with javascript based on how many times the user clicks an Add button. Each click generates one iFrame. All the iFrames are being generated with the same id/name. What Im having Javascript trouble with is A) figuring out which iframe is which by number (myframe[0], myframe[1], myframe[2],etc) and B) how many iframes are on the page. For A) is there a way to tell what the number value is besides hard coding it? Right now Ive been playing with this in the src page.. window.frameElement.id but that just returns "myframe" and not the number. Ideally I would like to find the number as its being created on the parent page instead of getting it from the src page, here's what I have now for that...

I need this iframe for a facebook tab, since they changed the width to 520px. The original page in the iframe is 700px wide, and I've changed a few CSS properties using the frameReady plugin. It's works just fine, but trouble starts, when i'm navigating the target site, the CSS properties I've changed goes back to the original settings.
This is my code:
<script>
$.frameReady( function() {
$("#gmap-auto1map-gmap0").css("width", "520px");
$(".views-view-grid").css("width", "520px");
[code]....
Try clicking any of the 'view on map' links, then you'll see where I'm getting at.
How could I work around this? Can I make it apply the script every time something new loads into the iframe?

<iframe name="alertiframe" id="alertiframe" width="1" height="1" src='xmlsample.html'></iframe>
<script>
function alertfunc()
{
sometext = window.frames['alertiframe'].document.all.tags['to'][0].innerHTML;
alert(sometext);
}
</script>
<a href="javascript:alertfunc()">Click Me</a>
I am working with an older browser more of MAC IE. It works with DOM 1 and extremely partially with DOM 2. contentDocument and contentWindow does not work on this browser.
The above code works very nicely, however as soon as I rename the file to "xmlsample.xml" with an xml extension, it does not work anywork. If you have any other solutions please let me know. Rem we can't use any newer techniques, this is very basic DOM.

I have an iframe with some javascipt that gets the mouse x and y
position like this:
//inside the iframe's onmousemove call back funciton
xMousePos = window.event.clientX + document.body.scrollLeft;
yMousePos = window.event.clientY + document.body.scrollTop;
This gets the x and y position inside the iframe. But what I want is
the x and y position of the parent window, not the screen like
screenX. Is there any easy way to get parentX and parentY or to get
the offset x and y of the iframe relitive to the parent from inside
the iframe?

If I try to put a site into an iframe that has "escape frame" code in
its source (posted below), it will reload the requested page into the
parent instead of the iframe. Is there a way to prevent this from
happening?
One could use onunload to stop the redirection, but I would like to
find a way to load a page into an iframe, even if it has this type of
code.
I have considered server code loading the content and re-displaying it
but I would like to find a pre javascript solution.
//this is not my code
if (self != top) {
if (document.images) {
top.location.replace(window.location.href);
} else {
top.location.href = window.location.href;
}
}

My problem is that the event handler is not getting called when I do mouse clicks inside "iframe".

Disclaimer 1: I am not a programmer, just a curious designer, so please take that into consideration in your replies.
Disclaimer 2: Despite all advices against it, I couldn't find a better solution to my website than using iFrame
Disclaimer 3: Before asking for help, I researched *several* forums and although I found people discussing similar issues,
implementing a method to intercept and redirect external links to a dynamic iframe. By "dynamic" iframe I mean an iframe whose SRC would be filled up in accordance to the external URL being intercepted and that it would resize its HEIGHT accordingly in order to avoid scroll bars.The function for resizing the iframe id="child" is already correctly implemented like so:
<script language="JavaScript">
<!--
function calcHeight()[code]...
This "replacement" function would be called onLoad and if tested true would run and refresh the page with the proper value in the iframe SRC.All this should be accomplished while still making the iframe HEIGHT dynamically adjustable and show a "clean" URL in the browser, such as "http:[url].....The potential issues I foresee is an infinite loop due to two onLoad queries (one for SRC, another for HEIGHT) in the parent and child objects, which might required a merge into a single script.

I have built a basic website that contains an iframe in the middle, called "iframe1". In this iframe I wish to load an external message board from proboards.com. In my code I can easily do this by making a button or hyper-link with the href="http:proboards.com/myforums" and the target="iframe1".When I do this it will load inside of it the iframe jsut as I want it to. However, my the problem is when you click on the button to login its coded to target "_top" and it opens on the entire page replacing the whole website. If i run firebug (a real time HTML editor). I can easily locate and change the link code to target="iframe1". But How can I write a script in javascript in my webpage code to do this as soon as the iframe has loaded the external messageboard?
