Time On Page Script

Sep 16, 2006

I created a timer which dynamically updates to tell the user how long they have been on the page. It all works well; however when a new day begins (and the time becomes 00:00:00) it has problems. This is because I subtract the starting time from the current time, so when the current time is less than the starting time, it becomes a negative value. Code:

Add The Time To Page Update?

Dec 19, 2011

I am using the following code to show visitors when my page was updated last.

It seems really cumbersome for what it does, too.

Right now, it reads:

Last updated on Monday, December 19, 2011

I wanted to add code to it so that it reads the hours and is in this format:

Last updated on Monday, December 19, 2011 at 8:44am

How can I add the "at hh:mm am/pm" part? Or is there easier code that will do this?

function getLongDateString()
{month = new Array("January","February","March","April","May","June","July","August","September","October","November","December");

[Code].....

Using Two Scripts On The Same Page, Only One At A Time Works?

May 24, 2011

I am currently trying to display a gallery of images using Lightbox, and a contact form in a different modal window using a different script.

Here is the URL, so you can view the source. [URL]

Clicking 'contact' opens the Contact window, which currently works, and clicking the images SHOULD open lightbox but doesn't. If I shuffle the code around, I can get Lightbox to work but the contact window then breaks.

If someone could provide just the code I should replace mine with so I can just copy and paste it in, that would be great because I don't know anything about javascript and struggled to follow the instructions for this I found elsewhere.

Date And Time For Two Countries On Same Page?

Apr 11, 2009

Not sure about the analog type of clock at the moment, and maybe looking at the digital type. Anyone know if it's possible for the code to work for two countries at the same time, both dynamically changing for minutes and seconds, and for them to automatically change for daylight savings times (both countries change on the same dates), on the same page please?

Way To Time Page-load Script

Aug 13, 2010

Is there any way to time how long the page-load javascript on a page takes? I couldn't find any plug-in in firefox that could do this (YSlow shows the overall time it takes for the page to load, but not the javascript specifically), GreaseMonkey or something maybe?

Sending Time Counter To Next Page?

Dec 20, 2010

User gets for every minute staying on the site 1 credit. Credit is updated each minute, even if the page is not reloaded. But also if the page is reloaded or user continue browsing to other pages inside our site, counter should continue where it stayed in the previous page. If the user leaves the site it doesn't need to continue.

How would you do this? Is it possible to send in javascript value to the next page? Otherwise I have some other ideas, but I am not sure which is the most common: 1. On page leave (if this exists in javascript?) call with ajax timer.php where you assign time to the session. 2. On each 5 seconds call with ajax timer.php where you assign time to the session. 3. Do sql call for each 5 seconds. I guess this is not ok because it is too wasting.

Onclick: New Page And Layer Change At The Same Time?

Apr 23, 2001

I'm wondering if it's possible to have a location link and layer function assigned to a link at the same time. I can't get this to work:

<a href="http://www.domain.com" onClick="return layershow()">CLICKHERE</a>

I want to open the page specified by the href and call the layershow function at the same time. The above code runs the function fine, but seems to ignore the href.

How can I get it to do both?

Recording The Time A Visitor Leaves A Page

May 2, 2010

I have a .Net website that uses a text file to record when visitors arrive on a page.

However, I really want it to also store the date and time that a visitor leaves a page. I can easily calculate the time spent on pages within a session but currently have no way of knowing how long someone spent on the last page they visited during a session.

What I need is a script that runs when a page is unloaded. The script will update a text file (stored in the htdocs folder of the site) with the current time.

So far, I have come to the conclusion that I may need to use JavaScript and the window.onbeforeunload event but I cannot get any further.

JQuery :: Random Active Tab Every Time Page Loads

Jan 3, 2012

I am new to jQuery and have managed to create a tabbed interface with 4 sections. When the page loads, the tab content of section 1 shows up and the user can click on the others links to show other sections. In other words, tab 1 is always the first to be "active." However, I want to have a random "active" tab every time the page loads, so that other sections can be "active" as well randomly. Once the page loads with the random active tab, then the user can click to look at other sections.

Data Validation - Shorten Page Load Time

May 18, 2010

I have a page with a lot of data validation on it (for a form). But the validation is not actually executed until the user hits Submit. The page loads really slow. Is there a way to control how a page loads so that, as I suspect, the validation Javascript loads after the form actually displays? I want the user to see the page/form displayed as quickly as possible while I recognize that the the page load may not be complete because its still loading the validation routines. What I can do to speed it up?

Onclick Function Call Only Works One Time On A Page?

Oct 18, 2011

I have a web page a lot of thumbnail images arranged in a table. I would like the user to be able to click on the thumbnail to open a window with a larger view of the image.

So I wrote a JS function to accept a URL as the argument and open a new pop-up window with the given parameters. I need this function to potentially run multiple times from multiple links (in this case images) on the same page. However, after the first time I click the link, the function runs, and I close the pop-up, the function will not run again if I click the same or another link on the page. If I refresh the page, the function will work once and then not again. Is there a buffer I need to clear or something to reset to allow multiple links to work?

I have tried the function call in a whole slew of ways. Here's my current code (I "..."'ed out the URLs for brevity):

<script type="text/javascript">
function zoomWindow(url)
{
zoomWindow=window.open(url,"", "toolbar=no, location=no, directories=no, status=no, menubar=no, scrollbars=yes, resizable=no, copyhistory=no, height=645px, width=550px");

JQuery :: JSON - Refreshing Request Second Time After Page Loads

Oct 24, 2009

I'm using some jQuery to work with the Last.FM API, and I'm stuck where I need to allow the user to run the JSON request a second time after the page loads (it loads once automatically when the page loads, the second time is when they push a button). What happens currently, is the JSON function is fed some default data when the page loads:

$('#graph').lastFM({
username: 'UserName',
from: 1254369600,
to: 1256184000,
apikey: 'myApiKeyHere',
onComplete: function(){
//Done
}});

The JSON function:
$.fn.lastFM = function(options) {
var defaults = {
username: 'Verdani',
apikey: 'e4f3bb251d13179bf7ce80a089fb3d0c',
onComplete: function(){}
},
settings = $.extend({}, defaults, options); .....

You might have noticed in the JSON, I write the URL the JSON is requesting to the console every time it runs. When I click this button, a new URL pops up in the console below the first one but only for a second, and then the page reloads and the original JSON request is called. It's this loop that I can't seem to break out of - why does re-calling the JSON refresh the page?
