Resolved Dynamically Call External Script?
Mar 20, 2011
What im trying to do is to dynamically call an external javascript file. The script once called will provide variables for another function.The problem is that variables can not be passed through from the external script to the parent script. I understand why this is, but i am wondering if there are other ways to load (or refresh) an external script?

Working on a little window to do some very simple quick edits to an external CSS file. Whole thing is working off of Ajax URI strings and GET methods.Once a edit to the loaded CSS source has been performed I write back out the the external css file via Ajax GET method and PHP fopen. Then while the file writing completes, I return back its newly saved contents to the head of my document.In my documents head I have a div block with a unique id that gets traversed to via DOM and our newly edited external css files contents gets dumped too.Upon dumping the contents of the external css file to this div block I wrap style tags around the incoming contents like so.
Ok great so that's the break down of my whole editing and updating preview of an external css file, now my problem. Works fine in FireFox and not so well in IE.I suspect its because IE caches CSS harder than the FF Gecko Engine. Thus leaving me here to ask if anyone knows of a work around for my approach or a more elegant method that I might want to investigate?

I have a js file located on domain A, and on domain B i have included the js file, i want to change some information within my js file depending on the url(pulled from a database). I already have pulled the url via some coding and I am wondering if I use Ajax on domain B will this actually pull the information or will it stop it because of cross domain security? If it will block it, how can I pull this off?

index.html:
<script type="text/javascript" src="JScript.js"></script>
..
<script type="text/javascript">displayTimes();</script><br>
JScript.js:
function displayTimes() {
document.write("8:30-9:50<br>9:55-11:15<br>11:15-12:00<br>12:00-1:20<br>1:25-2:43");
}
It's not displaying. How do I call the function properly? I tried reading about onload but it only applies to <body> and <img> and I want it in a specific area of the page. I can put the script on the same page and then call the function later, but I want to know if it's not possible doing the above properly.

When i browse this test html page on Firefox, the alert message is displayed as on the code above. But on IE, the page shows no such alert message.I assume this is a problem with the functions on the external js file not being recognised in IE.

I am having a project requirement of calling a Javascript from a java program or JSP. Here it goes...
I have an external web page which I can access using a hyperlink this page is "Export to PDF" page. In this page we have an "EXPORT" button which on click calls a "do_export" javascript function. On clicking the EXPORT button a PDF is generated.
Now my problem is I do not have the access to the code, so what I can do is to some how open that webpage and then execute that javascript function form a Java program or a JSP file or even a shell script file.
In simple, I want to automate this export process and I had only access to this webpage by a URL.

I have a JavaScript image gallery that loads in a DIV. I have 4 different Galleries - each with their own image array stored in it's own External JavaScript file.
What I want to do, is when you click on a link to any of the 4 galleries that an onclick function calls the relevant external JavaScript file and then loads the array of images in the same DIV. I want to remain on the same page at all times...just a different array of images is seen by the user in the DIV.

I have been struggling with a cross browser solution to loading
external javascript files on the fly.
I have been successful using the following code in IE6:
var newScr = document.createElement("SCRIPT");
newScr.src = "newScr.js";
newScr.type="text/javascript";
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(newScr);
I believe the reason is that IE is loading the external file
syncronously while Firefox is not. Is there an onload event for
creating an element (if so I do not see it in Venkman). I have seen the
solution of using XMLHTTP to load the script but I am trying to get
around any dependency (atleast at this stage of the library) on
activex.

This is my first message and I am extremely new to jQuery. I am using Ajax to call external html pages into a div in my site. I have three external html forms which uses JavaScript and one .file. When I call these pages, the html pages are being rendered correctly but the JavaScript and .pl file (form post) is not being executed. Any ideas on how to resolve?

I actually use a counter on a webpage (It works). To do it, I use an inline javascript but I would like to unify the entire page and call that counter directly in the external Javascript that manages the whole site.
Here's the actual code...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span><SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>
...
</body>
EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT (ini.js)
var hits="HITS ";
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}
And here a "view" of my request...
Code:
HTML
<body onLoad=gen_hits()>
...
<span id='hits'></span>
...
</body>
EXTERNAL JAVASCRIPT
var hits="HITS " + <SCRIPT language="JavaScript" SRC="[URL]"></SCRIPT>;
function gen_hits() {
document.getElementById("hits").innerHTML=hits;
}
How to modify it ?

I have a few buttons on a page I'm developing and I want the onclick event to call a javascript function in an external file and execute it. I would like to be able to pass a parameter to that function and then either have the function take the user to a new URL or make changes to the webpage content.
Initially (just to test) I had inline javascript that caused an alert to popup. That worked fine. Next I took the inline code and put it in a function in an external javascript file that was referenced in the HTML:

I need to be able to use jQuery's load function to grab the contents of an external file and append them to a particular DOM element. The problem is that when that external file includes scripts that contain calls to document.write, I get weird behavior that changes depending on which browser I'm using.If I'm using Internet Explorer, the load function gets all of the non-script elements from the external page and correctly appends them into the DOM element. Of course, this is not ideal because it ignores the scripts.If I'm using Firefox or Safari, the load function runs the scripts but the document.write output overrides the entirety of the calling page.Thus, I end up with a page that now only contains the document.write output instead of a page that includes the original HTML plus the document.write output as a child of a DOM element.

When one or more checkboxes are clicked, I want the program to dynamically create a div, assign that div an editable text area, then when user clicks submit, I need it to gather the input from EACH textbox and output that to another textbox. I am trying to make an order form I am working on accessible for users who have javascript turned off in their browser, and to do this I would like to hide a div if JS is disabled.
Searching the Web has led me to think that styling the div to not display is the way forward and then using JS to display it. It is the JS bit I am struggling with! The div in question is a set of radio buttons to allow a purchaser to choose how many gift memberships they want to buy:
<div id="giftmember-buttons" style="display:none";>
