Below is a sample HTML code for including a javascript file.
Code HTML4Strict:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

When i browse this test html page on Firefox, the alert message is displayed as on the code above. But on IE, the page shows no such alert message.I assume this is a problem with the functions on the external js file not being recognised in IE.
How do you call a jquery function from an external js file and then load that function when the window loads, that is the .ready() function if I am not mistaken.
I have a few buttons on a page I'm developing and I want the onclick event to call a javascript function in an external file and execute it. I would like to be able to pass a parameter to that function and then either have the function take the user to a new URL or make changes to the webpage content.
Initially (just to test) I had inline javascript that caused an alert to popup. That worked fine. Next I took the inline code and put it in a function in an external javascript file that was referenced in the HTML:
I have a external file for example abc.js ,in this abc.js file no functions ,it contains some scripting,i want to call the scripting file though html I use the code
I have a JavaScript image gallery that loads in a DIV. I have 4 different Galleries - each with their own image array stored in it's own External JavaScript file.
What I want to do, is when you click on a link to any of the 4 galleries that an onclick function calls the relevant external JavaScript file and then loads the array of images in the same DIV. I want to remain on the same page at all times...just a different array of images is seen by the user in the DIV.
I need to be able to use jQuery's load function to grab the contents of an external file and append them to a particular DOM element. The problem is that when that external file includes scripts that contain calls to document.write, I get weird behavior that changes depending on which browser I'm using.If I'm using Internet Explorer, the load function gets all of the non-script elements from the external page and correctly appends them into the DOM element. Of course, this is not ideal because it ignores the scripts.If I'm using Firefox or Safari, the load function runs the scripts but the document.write output overrides the entirety of the calling page.Thus, I end up with a page that now only contains the document.write output instead of a page that includes the original HTML plus the document.write output as a child of a DOM element.
function displayTimes() { document.write("8:30-9:50<br>9:55-11:15<br>11:15-12:00<br>12:00-1:20<br>1:25-2:43"); }
It's not displaying. How do I call the function properly? I tried reading about onload but it only applies to <body> and <img> and I want it in a specific area of the page. I can put the script on the same page and then call the function later, but I want to know if it's not possible doing the above properly.
/**** This is "myAjaxFunction.js *****/ var asyncRequest; function getContent(url){ try{ asyncRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); asyncRequest.onreadystatechange = stateChange; asyncRequest.open('POST', url, true); asyncRequest.send(null); } .....
I'm trying to call a external .js file that contains a function from a webpage, but haven't been able to discover how to reference the function.According to the book Beginning JavaScript 4th Edn, this should work - why isn't it?
I have just started learning JQuery and have a doubt in the below code. $.get('myhtmlpage.html', myCallBack);The doubt is should the 1st parameter of the get function be a HTML file or can it be a unction name?
I have HTML page which use js function and worked fine b4 I pull out the javascripts function from that page.Then later, I created .js file for the js functions and test again, the function doesn't work anymore.
In .js file, <script type="text/javascript"> var upload_number = 2; function addFileInput() {
[code]....
When I click on the Upload another file link, nothing appear.It worked b4 I create separate js file.
I would like to know how to create a function in an external file for validating the fields of a form. If someone could please provide the code, it'll be real helpful. The form is as follows:
Theres this situation where i have to place a js file (say myscript.js) on a client's website to do something on their page (like create a div element with some content in it). Now, myscript.js works when window or DOM has loaded. The problem is that the client will/may also have onload functions which will be overridden by myscript.js if i place it at the end of the page or vice versa if at the top of the page.
Theres one (albeit obstrusive) way in which it can be done. Create multiple onload function (Simon Willison's script) within myscript.js and call that function from the client's webpage.But i dont want to add any inline javascript code on the webpage. Just the external js (myscript.js) file should do. Is it workable to load my script externally and not add any inline call to myscript.js as well as leave the client's javascript onload scripts unaffected?
i am making website, every thing is great i even learned php and sql, But i made input info validation in javascript, and i have a lot of same pages, i know in php i can use include("***.php"); and echo sprintf("%'09s", $***); to launch a php code from other file, can i do it in javascript and how? i want to save my javascript function in html or php file and call it in other php aplications, is it possible?
I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1 word2 word3 word4 word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..
I got an [object error] from IE 7.0.5730.11 when moving the <script src="..." type="text/javascript" /tag from the <headpart to the <bodysection of a HTML file.
Is not possibile to include Javascript code via <script src="..." type="text/javascript" /from the <bodysection, instead from the <headone? If yes, anyone has any idea of which the problem could be? If not, how can I programmatically include a javascript external file inside the <bodypart of a HTML file, for example, using Javascript to some particular native functions?
I have a slideshow plugin and there is a function in it called stopAutoplay(). This is called when I click on the pre-defined pause button in the slideshow, so it stops.
If I switch between the slideshows(Slideshow 1 2 3) the slideshow is getting messier and messier because it starts many slideshows at the same time and the plugin gets confused what to show.
I figured if I click on the pause button before I switch to another slideshow it works fine. Therefore what I would like to achieve now is to call stopAutoplay() somehow before I switch to the new slides.
How can I call stopAutoplay() from the html file when I click on one of the slideshow 1 2 3 buttons?
I've tried the codes in green below but they don't work.
If there is a better solution let's say to kill everything before the new slideshow appears it's even better. Although I've tried die(), empty(), detach(), remove(). I hoped remove() would help cause as I read it's suppsed to remove everything but for some reasons it doesn't...
