View 2 RepliesFirst time here. I have had no luck searching on Google or here regarding this. I am trying to tie the value of an image src to two onChange events. the events are drop down boxes in a form. I do have a couple of single event driven peices working so I think my logic is sound. I originally tried to do this with multiple if statements that tested both conditions/events. I have since given each event it's own function. I have no idea what i am doing wrong. the onChange events have no effect on the image display at all. The default image just stays in place. My JS knowledge is limited but it looks correct as far as I can tell. What am I missing.

Alright, I'm using a Rooh.It WordPress plugin right now, but I don't like the way they do it, so I want to write my own code to do something similar.
I want the user to be able to select the text they want to highlight, and the background color of that text changes to whatever color they have selected.
How can I do this in JavaScript?
I am using a calendar control based on the one at Brainjar.com. I have made the text field into which the date is inserted readonly. The problem with this is that if a user attempts to change the date manually by deleting part of the highlighted text, the browser goes back one page.
I want to force the user to use the calendar control and not input text directly into the textfield- readonly is not enough as the text can still be highlighted and then causes problems if the user attempts to delete.
I'm trying to write an application to demonstrate to a friend how to
highlight text in javascript, only problem is he wants it to be on divs
only.
So say for example you have a page, and you select some text in the div
(this is static text, not a form or anything) and you click "highlight"
is there a way to wrap style tags around that highlighted text using
javascript, without refreshing the page?
et me know how can I highlight a selected portion of an html document with javascript such that the selected portion is repeatedly shown highlighted on each and every page refresh.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to write a function that is similar to the ctrl+f functionality you get in IE, where you have a search string and when you click 'next' the whole string if matched is highlighted by the cursor.
This works fine for inputs and text areas using the following code:
But now I need to get it to work for normal text in a text node that is in the HTML/DOM. Is there an equivalent way of making the above method work for text in text nodes?
Alternatively is there a way to make the browser (IE) at least focus on some text in a text node? (I could then highlight it with CSS styles).
The first page with the menu works just fine, but when you go to any of the other pages it won't let you highlight the text to copy and paste - in certain circumstances. It works fine on my home computer which is running Windows XP. I've been able to work with it in all browsers. On Windows Vista and Windows 7 there are issues. The only real difference is the previous/next page menu and the switch div script which is written in Javascript. This is the only thing I can think that's interfering. I've only tested Internet Explorer and Chrome in Vista (don't know about Chrome in 7) but it inhibits in both browsers.
Might there be any work arounds? On 14.html which is the Index (as in book, not the main web page) the switch div is gone but it's still not working. However, I tested just the switch div script on another web-site without the previous/next page menu and that also doesn't work.

i am creating a search method tht searches the string entered in the text box in the given page having table. i want to highlight the found word ( matching part )...i can do that but with createTextRange its getting the first match word and than exits
is it possible to create certain part of the page and not the whole page(document.body.createTextrange()) for search like only one column of table and not the whole page contents
I want function to present something.png instead of the text for Good Morning etc.if (houris >17) display =gm.png;in this fashion.Also IE8 reports "clientside is undefined" as an error message, occasionally.My javascript knowledge is still rudimentary.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm currently working on a project which is essentially a clickable
world map. I have successfully mapped the image and using a
OnMouseOver = "Continent()" OnMouseOut = "World()" command in each
mapping line ie. <area shape="poly" onmouseover="NA()"
onmouseout="World()" coords="(lotsonumbers)".
In my continent functions I change the image using something like:
function Africa()
{document.images[35].src="/_View/images/maps/worldmaps/world.africa.jpg";
return true;}
This gives me the "highlighting" effect I was looking for when people
mouse over the continent.
However! my problem now is that I need to find a way to essentially
link that with a cell within the same table as the mapped image. There
is a list of the continents in the column next to the map (the map has
all the rows merged in that column). I need it so that if I run the
mouse over the continent or that cell both of them highlight at the
same time. I see the best way of doing this as having both call the
World or Continent function. However I have been unable to find any
way of setting a specific cell's background or text from within a
function.
I was wondering how you allow the user to highlight text they've typed (in a form) and click a button to edit its style (placing tags around the highlighted text).
Could someone explain this a little further and perhaps provide an example.
I've been struggling with this for days. How can I use javascript to
high light a part of the text in a textbox or a textarea?
OR
if the user highlights a part of the text in a textbox or a textarea,
how can I say which part of the text is highlighted? (ie: at what
character the highlight starts and at what character the highlight
ends).
New to JS, and not too good at it. Trying to take some prewritten code and add script that displays some random text. Having trouble with assignment. Instructions are to replace a section of the file I am given with a script element. In the script element I am suppose to declare a variable named tipNum equal to a random integer between 1 and 10 returned by the randInt() function (which I made and have shown below). Then I am suppose to use a series of document.write() methods to write the following HTML code into the page:
<h1>Random Tip<br />title</h1>
<p>tip</p>
(Where "title" is the title of the random text as generated by the tipTitle() function from a external file, and which I did not make; and "tip" is the text of the random tip as genereated by the tipText() function, which is also from the external file, and not made by me) My code for the randInt() function is
function randInt(lower, upper) {
var size = ++(upper - lower);
var randValue = Math.floor(lower + size*Math.random());
}
The script I made to display the HTML code is

I am getting nothing on my page where the random text should be.
I have the following code which I want to make a selection and the value should reflect in the text box and the text box should take on that value for future calculations.

Basically, I have a link that should open the targeted link in a blank page, and upon the link being clicked, the original page's URL should be changed. The reason for this is that the user has to browse information on another website, and then pass the information on to me via a contact form, so rather than make them click back on my tab in the browser, and then find the "Contact" page link to fill in the form, I thought it would a good feature to simply go ahead and load the "Contact" page upon them clicking the link to the external page (which of course loads in a new tab). Here is the code I have in place:
Code JavaScript:
<a href="http://www.othersite.com/" target="_blank" onclick="window.location.href='http://www.mysite.com/contactus.php';">Other Site</a>
This all works fine on my computer, regardless of the browser that I use. One of my partners on this project called me this morning and said that the link was taking him directly to the "Contact" page without opening the "Other Site." This is strange because after I put this in place, I showed it to him and it worked fine. Now, a few days later, and it does not work. He said that he cleared his browser cache, history, cookies, etc. and the problem did not go away. He uses IE8. After he told me it was no longer working, I went to test it myself, and it works fine for me no matter which browser I use (IE8 or 9, Firefox 3 or 4 Beta).
why this might have worked one day and not the next? Is it simply a problem on his computer, or could it be an issue where based on what type of browser you are using, this won't work. Also, I know this is the JavaScript forum, but is there a way to do this in PHP without using the JavaScript onclick event? Obviously, I can't use the header() function since this functionality needs to be present on a link within text of a page.
1) search the database for the words user is typing in the text box. This will happen with each key press.2) if there is a match - I need to change the text color.
View 17 Replies View RelatedIn the menu in this page I have four different methods (you can see them in the <script> tag on the pages) of indicating the current page in a menu. I downloaded these from various web pages after Googling "jQuery highlight current page".None of the methods works. Is there something wrong with my selectors? Can anyone see why none of them are working?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've read through every post here on this issue and can't find an answer with an actual example of just how you amend the current tab in Superfish with the addClass to take the pathClass option so that it can be highlighted when you're on a specific page.
Even the official Superfish page and demos make no mention of how you do this thoughI can see there's a hash being passed in the URL. I've only just been exposed to such a concept and I'm not sure which bit of code is creating/reading the hash and how to apply it in this case as it's different from the last issue I had.
Im currently working on a project for class and have been directed to use Javascript for what im looking to do. Im a beginner when it comes to coding w/ javascript. Over the last couple days I've spent good time reading and practicing tutorials but have yet to do something I imagine is very basic for what I want to do.
At the moment, im looking to insert text into a webpage, that links to images. The images, ideally will layer on top of each other (Multiple images can be shown based on the "text" which activates it) Images shown, if done what im looking for, will have a transparent background to view images set behind one another. I've spent a couple hours looking up code through google, found similiar code which i've tried to manipulate to do what I want. I have yet to put something successful together. Was hoping I could look upon experience programmers to help me out by pointing me in the right direction. Im willing to do the work, just looking for that guidance
How do I link a cookie, presented in a div, to a text box on the same page - so it can be searched?
Now I have a search box that link to the Google Maps API. I also have the two most recently search items to show up as cookies below the map. My goal is to have the cookies show up as links so that when you click them, they show up in the text box to search.
I'm thinking of three ways to do this and wonder which is the best way to do it.
1) Can I just adjust the div tag to link to the text box?
2) Can I adjust the function relating to how the cookies are posted on the page?

How can I use Javascript to look at variables passed from another page
using the GET method( a website address) and load that website?
I have a simple script that will get the NWS forecast for any zip code and it opens it in a new tab. I would like it to open in an iframe on another page with in my website. I have come close, but not quite all the way yet. This will enter the forecast in an iframe on the same page as the input form. [URL]
How can it load onto this page from the form on the menubar? This menu is common on all the sites pages.
I have seen solutions posted around the internet using javascript for similar issues, but I haven't been able to get any to work in my situation. My javascript skills are - none.
i know how to use javascript to make a specific page load into an iframe but not how to make the page load into the iframe on another page. all i need to know is how to do it for one page then i think i can build the decision structure around it to make it work for more than one link (hopefully).
