How can I truncate all words greater than 30 characters using a class name when the page loads?Been trying to do this for about 5 hours. Trying to conside the following:
* Truncate long words and churn anything above the minimum length with an ellipse.
* Only truncate words and not the whole sentence or paragraph.
* Should truncate text that are inside HTML tags and not truncate the tags themselves.
* When you hover over the ellipse, it will show you the complete word.
* The long words are already truncated when the page load (SEO friendly).
* Block of text are included in a max of 25 <div> elements and a minimum of 1. That's why I'm not using ID.
So far I have this lines of code:
<script charset="utf-8" language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

I have that page above.. But the thing is the entire website was made using an iFrame that loads another page.. Each page has one of those at the bottom. Thing is when the main page loads the second page, there are duplicates of those at the bottom. I want it so that when there are duplicates, I can remove the main one. How would I even get started on that? I don't know where to look at all.
I looked up stuff but the only thing I found was the remove html elements using $('.class').remove(); Which doesn't do what I want. I only know very little javascript, lots of css, lots of html and lots of C++.. I don't know any other languages.
The following code adds an element to a page when a new address is inputted. Is there a way to remove all added elements with a Clear All button? I have a "Clear All" button with id="ClearAddresses" but I don't know how to remove all created elements - the code here only removes one at a time, since the element is created when the "Search" button is clicked.
var Dom = {
get: function(el){
if (typeof el === 'string')
return document.getElementById(el);
else
return el;
},
add: function(el, dest){
var el = this.get(el);
var dest = this.get(dest);
dest.appendChild(el);
}, .....
setTimeout("add_visited_address();", 50);
}
I'm missing something simple here I'm sure but I'm not quite understanding how to remove an element from a page after adding it. [code]...

For some reason divNum in removeElement() always returns the latest value of divcounter. So if I add 4 form elements, and I want to remove the 2nd item, item 4 is removed and above fuction returns an error when I want to remove another element afterwards because it is trying to remove the 4th element again.
This time I have a trouble with remove(). Here is my code :

I'm currently reading jQuery - Novice to Ninja (fantastic book), and trying to understand how I can add several words to the code snippet below. I currently remove, let's say Sweden as below, but what if I also want to remove Norway?And another question, what if I would like to keep only Sweden and remove the rest from a list of twenty countries? How would I do that?
Code JavaScript:
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery('#countries tbody').remove(':contains("Sweden")');

Problem:
Depending on an input value, I would like to output greek characters
(f. e. those between U+03B1 to U+03C9. One way would be to define two
arrays: one with the possible input values ("abgde...") and a second
array with the corresponding values ("u03b1u03b2u03b3...").
But I hoped I could skip the second by a computation, f.e. "g" has
index 2 in the first array, so output "u03b1"+2.
This does not work (of course). But do I have a chance to "compute"
the output value?

I have a bordered div with some text in it. Some of the text is one long string and thus runs outside of the div. The div stretches out to the width of the browser window so that long string of text runs all the way out past the edge of the scrollbar.
Is there a way I can use JavaScript to detect the width of the div from the edge of one border to the next and then convert that number into the number of characters that can fill that width?
I have a script which gathers information from a form and, if needed, writes this info to a 'preview' window. At times {tokens} are used in place of real html tags. How can I tell the script to look for "{" and "}" and replace them, respectively, with "<" and ">".
I tried using "str = str.replace(/{/g, "<").replace(/}/g, ">");" but that didn't work. The script in question is being written by PHP... thus, may be generating a syntax-based failure. Any ideas?
I am copying from microsoft word a simple word into my application(rich text editor)..
