With js I am trying to find and replace any prices within the innerHTML?
Matching e.g.:
$25.00
$15
$1000.45
$1000,999
I want to find all instances of these and replace them with alternative strings.
I have been trying to figure out how to find all instances of a certain word or phrase within an element and wrap those words in <span> tags or other html. I.e. change all instances of 'the keywords' to <span>the keywords</span>So far I've found a lot of references to :contains() but that will change the element the text is inside of rather than just the text itself
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking for a script that will find and replace all instances of a word in the page. how ever there might be more than one instance. I'm not that crash hot on javascript and all i have at the moment is:
This script should look for UNASSIGNED and replace it with nothing
HTML Code:
function func1() {
var str=document.getElementById("UNASSIGNED");
document.write(str.replace(/UNASSIGNED/g, ""));
}
window.onload=func1;
Also wanting another script that searches for a string via ID. if the id has SP.XXX <-- XXX being random numbers then i want it to find the and replace this repeating occurrence with a
<h1>November<span>2009</span></h1>
making a variable equal the h1 html() without the span text.
// equals 'November2009'
var monthDelete = $('h1').html();
// I need just 'November'
I written below javascript function to handle Unicode characters in HTML text boxes.code for & and ' ' goes into infinite loop, is there any better way to achive this ?

I want to replace all text in the html that contains the word "Hello" to "Hi" (quotes not included and not case-sensitive). Here's what I've made:
if ($('body:contains("Hello")').length > 0) {
$("*").each(function () {
$('body').html($('body').html().replace('Hello','Hi'));
});}
Without the:
$("*").each(function () {
It only searches for the first word so I added the line above to search within all elements (If this is correct). But the problem is, I notice that the line I added seems to cause the page to run slower than usual. Is there any other way to do this?
JavaScript learner, first time poster. When I grow up, I want to be a JS guru. In the meantime, if I had hair, I'd have pulled it out yesterday. I've been working for a few days now, trying different techniques to perform what I think should be a simple function. Here's the situation:
I have an HTML page:[URL]... ...which calls a function in a JS file on another server [URL].. which I did not write, nor can I change. The JS file determines the date and time, checks it against a list of conditions, then displays one of two gifs indicating whether or not an online help person is expected to be online, based on the date and time.
The list of conditions in the JS changes from time to time (holidays), so I want to continue calling the JS but the problem is the graphic it references does not fit into our available space for it. The function within the JS:

Is it possible to have a text box input searching for the entered text on another webpage in the same way Find In Page would do? I have a webpage that I want users to input an item, and that this will open the targeted webpage and bring you to (and highlight) the matched item(s) like find in page does. Is this possible or is the easiest way to just make users open the link to the target page and just complete the find in page search there?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to accomplish the following, preferably using jQuery, find this string on a page (it occurs only once).. 'BC-' and then, depending on the page i'm on either - add a simple <br/> tag before it, or enclose in it within a span tag with a class. adding the span would be more complicated because 3 numbers follow the BC- ex: BC-103.

Basically I regularly use an html page in work that has a list of people and their telephone numbers.I want to be able to type in a searchbox on my main page and it open the target page and find the name I am looking for?Is this possible or can you only Find In Page on the same page or another frame?

Caveat: I don't want to use div or span nodes, instead I want to target a text string and change that. E.g., given the following HTML:
<h1>Hello {name}</h1>
I want to do the following replacement:
replace {name} with "World".
Possible at all?
I have page with an Ajax request which returns an entire <hml>..</html> page and I would like to use this response data to replace the current page. I wrote the following :

I have a JavaScript string. I want to replace all consecutive
occurrences of whitespace characters like spaces, tabs, newlines, and
form feeds with another string.
For example, say I have a string consisting of:
-- 3 spaces
-- The characters "hello"
-- 2 newline (
) characters
-- The characters "goodbye"
-- 5 spaces
After applying some sort of regular expression to replace consecutive
occurrences of whitespace chars with the string "X", the string should
consist of the following:
-- The character "X"
-- The characters "hello"
-- The character "X"
-- The characters "goodbye"
-- The character "X"
How could I do this using regular expressions? I'm quite familiar with
JavaScript but don't know anything about regular expressions or using
them in JavaScript, so please show me step-by-step how it's done.
I am running a search on my web site which uses jQuery to take the search terms and build up a URL based on them. For example, if someone searches for "chair" my URL will be appended with /chair/. However, if someone searches for something which is two words, for example "chair covers" I need the space in between to be replaced by a "+" sign so the URL will now be appended with /chair+covers/ I'm not sure if it is possible to string replace in jQuery?
Here is my current code:
function sendSearchInput(whichelement,hiddeninput,formid) {
hval = $("#"+hiddeninput).val();
$("#"+formid).submit(function() {
if ($("input:#"+whichelement).val() != hval) {
var searchval = $("#"+whichelement).val().toLowerCase();
$("#"+formid).attr("action","retail/search/"+searchval+"/");
return true;
}
$("input:#"+whichelement).focus();
return false;
});}
This will basically check that the form is not the default value (specified in the hidden field "hval") and then change the search term to lowercase and append the URK using "attr". I have tried a couple of methods including
var test = searchval.text().replace(' ','+');
And then trying to alert "test" to check it but the function just simply doesn't work.
I am trying to replace all newline characters with <br /> tags. The following two javascript functions that I've found, work in Firefox but do not work in Internet Explorer (I have version 7 installed on my machine).
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I strip out the dirty characters shown in textarea after to extract the tags from a webpage and before submitting to another page?
By dirty characters I take in mind the characters shown in the image below.
- Replacing double space with a unique space
- Replacing "squares" with a blank space
- delete contents between "<!--" and "-->" or "<?" and "?>"
I have this script for replacing characters on form fields. I want to use it to remove letter accents. It is made to replace just one character, but I'm trying to modify it to replace many characters at once, but I'm not being able to get it to work correctly.

People have complained that window.find() doesn't work, and everyone knows Gecko doesn't support IE's proprietary TextRange object, some have assumed you can't do this in Gecko.
On the contrary though:
Node.prototype.findTextMatches = [];
Node.prototype.findText = function(query, ignoreCase) {
this.findTextMatches.length = 0;
if (ignoreCase)
query = query.toLowerCase();
var tw = this.ownerDocument.createTreeWalker(this, NodeFilter.SHOW_TEXT, { acceptNode: function(node) {return NodeFilter['FILTER_' + (RegExp(query, (ignoreCase ? 'i' : '')).test(node.nodeValue) ? 'ACCEPT' : 'REJECT')] } }, true);
var offsets = [];
offsets[-1] = query.length * -1;
var totalMatches, trueOffsetDiff;
var range = this.ownerDocument.createRange();
while (tw.nextNode()) {
totalMatches = tw.currentNode.nodeValue.split(RegExp(query, (ignoreCase ? 'i' : ''))).length - 1;
for (var i = 0; i < totalMatches; i++) {
trueOffsetDiff = offsets[offsets.length - 1] + query.length;
offsets[offsets.length] = tw.currentNode.nodeValue.substr(trueOffsetDiff)[ignoreCase ? 'toLowerCase' : 'toString']().indexOf(query) + trueOffsetDiff;
range.selectNode(tw.currentNode);
range.setStart(tw.currentNode, offsets[offsets.length - 1]);
range.setEnd(tw.currentNode, range.startOffset + query.length);
this.findTextMatches[this.findTextMatches.length] = range.cloneRange();
}
offsets.length = 0;
}
return (tw.currentNode != this);
}
Node.prototype.highlightText = function() {
if (this.findTextMatches.length > 0) {
with (window.getSelection()) {
removeAllRanges();
addRange(this.findTextMatches.shift());
}
return true;
}
else
return false;
}
To search all text in the body, ignoring case, you'd go like:
document.body.findText('search query', true);
That loads up an array full of ranges selecting the text into document.body.findTextMatches.
To selectively highlight next occurences after executing findText:
document.body.highlightText();
// highlights first occurence
document.body.highlightText();
// removes previous selection, highlights second occurrence
// etc
Just calling that method over and over will successfully highlight instances. It returns true if it highlighted something, false otherwise,
Also, since I prototyped Node, it works not just in HTML documents, but can work in XML documents too.
Calling document.findText in an HTMLDocument may cause interesting results, as it searches through all the nodes, including <head>...
Someone submitted this script my way, and I thought I'd post it here first, to see if people can come up with improvements.
This is a find text inside page script. Basically one would enter any text into a textbox, and the script searches for matches on the page, and highlights it if found. The script can be specified to search text in another frame or iframe.
Right now the script works in IE plus NS7. I was hoping it could be modified to work in NS6 as well.
