Referring Variable In Input Text Value?

Jun 23, 2009

I've been facing a problem assigning a javascript variable to an input text's value attribute.

My code is as follows:
var moduleCd = document.getElementById('client.moduleCd').value;
var productSelectLen = productSelect.options.length;
for(var i=0; i<productSelectLen; i++)

[Code]....

look at the bold italic marked text where I want to assign the value of variable moduleCd.

Pulling Data From A Text Box Input To A Variable

May 20, 2010

I am trying to create a page that will pull data out of an input text box to a variable. I am then trying to take that data and punch it into a function, to eventually spit out the answer back on the web page. It has to do with telling the user to enter how many hours worked and their pay rate. I have included the code below. The problem I seem to be having is that I want to click a button to pull the data, then output the result in another script below the input boxes. I may have over done it with the functions, but what can I say..I'm lost! When I try to run it, I have the document.write cmd in there that is supposed to output the variable grossPay. Instead, it shows all the code instead of the value.

If I have something else wrong, or if I am making poor choices let me know. For some background, so far I am in the beginning stages of functions, if..else statements, so I am not trying to get crazy with this. Just something simple.

JQuery :: Use One Input Text Field To Drive Two Hidden Input Text Fields?

Jul 16, 2011

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.

Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change

<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>

[code].....

I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

Automatically Move The Curser From Input Text Box To The Next Input Text Box?

Jul 27, 2010

I have taken a class on PHP and started making some math homework and drills for the tutoring I do. I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLets say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

JQuery :: 'input:text' Selector Not Finding Input Element With No Type Attribute?

Mar 16, 2011

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.

Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?

FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

Allowing Access From One Referring URL?

Mar 5, 2010

I create eLearning materials which are given away as a communty service to help people improve their health. A typical eLearning project has a few educational screens (using a Learner Management System-LMS-template) and an interactive exercise (on an external web page-htm or html-usually accessed by button which navigates to the exercise's URL).

The interactive exercise should only be accessed from inside the eLearning lesson using the button, because it requires understanding of the way it works plus important cautions to assure proper use. I need to prevent the use of the URL outside of taking the lesson (for example, someone taking the lesson acquires the exercise's URL from their browser history and then may give this to others who access the exercise directly-without necessary knowledge and cautions).

I tried document.referrer, using JavaScript. Using the referrer URL from inside the lesson and adding the JavaScript to the exercise's htm code worked OK in FF, but not in IE 8. In FF, if the referrer was not the correct single URL from inside the lesson, then it redirected; if the correct URL, the exercise appears.

The JS code follows:

<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
var oksite = "http://www.mysite.com/xyz/courseidxxxxx/yyyy/zzz.html";

[code]....

In IE 8, I was not able to get it to work. Using an alert, I noticed that the referrer in IE 8 was blank.My web hosting (GoDaddy) is a shared Windows hosting. I would have to upgrade from IIS6 to IIS7 to use PHP. Bigger challenge: I've never used PHP. If possible, I would prefer to use JS. But, I am open to any suggestion that will help.I am also wondering if part of the IE 8 issue is that I am using IE 8 X 64?

Capturing Referring URL With Cookie?

Apr 15, 2010

I am using a third party shopping cart service written in php. I don't have access to the php code so I decided to use javascript to write a cookie. What I'm trying to do is have the cookie capture the referring URL and then keep it for a day and have it follow where ever the visitor goes in the shopping cart. Then when they check out, the referring URL will populate a form field and be returned as part of the form results. This way I can track where my visitors come from. My code is below and I'm adding it to the file designated as the head section. (The files I have access to must use some form of include but I can't use php in them - just html and javascript. I've tried.)

I have an alert in the code that suggests something to do as well as set the cookie. The alert comes up and the cookie is set but when you go to another page, the alert comes up again and another cookie is set. I just need to have it set once so when they fill out the order form, I'll know where they came from.

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
cookie_name = "dataCookie";
var referred;

[code]....

In the body I am reading it with a form field of

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="javascript">
document.write("<FORM>")
document.write("Originally Referred by:")

[code]....

Width Of Text Input Box Vs. Password Input Box

Oct 30, 2005

I have the following HTML/CSS:

HTML:

<div id="stealth_form">
<form name="stealthme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='password' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>

<div id="search_form">
<form name="searchme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='text' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>

CSS:

#search_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: visible;
}

#stealth_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: hidden;
}

OK. I use javascript to dynamically set the visibility of #search_form
to 'hidden' and the visibility of #stealth_form to 'visible'. In
mozilla/firefox there is no visual difference. In IE the #stealth_form
input box is 1 pixel wider, and when the change occurs it catches the
users eye and looks strange.

Any ideas / workarounds? I know this is off topic for this group, but
most on this group know an awful lot about HTML / CSS, and I thought it
was worth a shot.

Is this possible or is the easiest way to just make users open the link to the target page and just complete the find in page search there?
