Jquery :: Won't Detect Input On Input Text
Nov 30, 2010
I am trying to get a alert box to popup each time a input text box is typed into. Here is the coding for the input text box:
This is in includes/search.php
Code:
<input type="search" name="search" id="search" class="search" autocomplete="off" />
And I am using JQuery to listen for it, here's my JQuery Code, I called it in and everything.
This is in js/jcode.js
Code:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#search").onchange(function(event){
event.preventDefault();
alert("x");
});
});
And I am calling all: JQuery.js, jcode.js, search.php, into index.php to load it all

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

I have taken a class on PHP and started making some math homework and drills for the tutoring I do. I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLets say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

I have the following HTML/CSS:
HTML:
<div id="stealth_form">
<form name="stealthme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='password' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
<div id="search_form">
<form name="searchme" action="" onSubmit="return
initializeSearch(this);">
<input type='text' name='query' size=16>
</form>
</div>
CSS:
#search_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: visible;
}
#stealth_form
{
position: absolute;
top: 600px;
left: 210px;
height: 50px;
width: 300px;
background-color: rgb(70,70,70);
visibility: hidden;
}
OK. I use javascript to dynamically set the visibility of #search_form
to 'hidden' and the visibility of #stealth_form to 'visible'. In
mozilla/firefox there is no visual difference. In IE the #stealth_form
input box is 1 pixel wider, and when the change occurs it catches the
users eye and looks strange.
Any ideas / workarounds? I know this is off topic for this group, but
most on this group know an awful lot about HTML / CSS, and I thought it
was worth a shot.

I'm not a JS expert, but is there any way to detect if there is a certain character at the ending of a sentence in a text input field?
for example, when a user puts "Hello, my name is Gary" into a certain text input with a specific ID and using the JS OnChange event, the script will add a period ( . ) if it is not detected.
or, when a period is detected at the end of the sentence ("Hello, my name is Gary."), it won't do anything.
I got this idea from reading the W3 School onchange doc, but I'm not sure if it's possible.

I'm performing some validation functions on a form I've created.For the phone number, I have 3 text boxes lined up next to one another. The first is for the country code, the second is for area code and the third is for the remainder of the phone number.I have used the following in order to detect whether the input value isNaN.
Code:
input = document.getElementById("phone1");
if (isNaN(input.value)) {
errorText += "[code]...
As I have three text boxes for the phone number, can I group them within this one statement? So, ...getElementById("phone1, phone2, phone3"); ?If not, what would you recommend?

I am having a form with two input fields. I want to enter some text in the first input field and then the second field should get the same text. Is there a simple way (maybe a plugin) to do this with jQuery? It would be perfect if I even could output all these input fields values as normal text in <p> or <li> tags.

I have a pretty basic set of things I want to do: Capture key press, compare against an allowed list, block keys that are not in that list, replace a space by a dash if entered. As this is happening, I have a span I wanted to be updated with the live values. The username field at [URL] is exactly what I am trying to do, though I have trouble dissecting how they did it. Here is my attempt, which is off by one keypress for some reason.

I wonder how to let a small text snippet change to an input box with as value the small text snippet when you just clicked on. When you click out, or press enter, the new text has to have the value of the input?There is a list of data from the database. I would like an input box to appear when users click on a list item (text) and the input box has the value of the list item and users are ofcourse be able to change this value. The value has to be 'selected'. When users click back outside the inputbox OR on another list item (where a new input box appear with value of that particular list item) OR press enter, the value of the input box has to be written to the database.

I have 2 input fields.
Input 1: Website URL
Input 2: Website Directory
Firstly I would like the "http://" to automatically appear in input one and two and it can't be edited or removed. Then whatever is typed in input one, I would like it to automatically copy into input 2, and the user can't delete whats in input 2 without going through input 1. Then lastly the user can add data into input 2, without input 1 changing.
Here is an example:
Red = Can't be deleted Green = Can be changed Blue = additional text to input 2
Input 1: http://www.yourwebsite.com/
Input 2: http://www.yourwebsite.com/extra/directory
How to do this?
