Preserve White Spaces In Textarea / Rich Edit Textbox
Nov 11, 2009
In a Text Area or Rich Edit Text Box I need to control whitespaces in between strings. For example if I have a : 1234 this is text test123. When I restore this information on the text area the spaces between those strings are not respected and only 1 space is in between those strings. When I browsed forums I see that we can use <pre> to hold the formats. I am new to programming don't know whether I need to work on HTML DOM for this text area or I can handle it in Javascript.
i m using the following validation code to validate email id
if (!/^w+([.-]?w+)*@w+([.-]?w+)*(.w{2,4})+$/.test(document.getElementById("customer_name").value)) { msg=msg+"Must Enter a valid Login-id/Email "; document.getElementById("customer_name").focus(); }
now i need that if the email id contains white blank space in front of email id or end of email id then this validation should pass otherwise not.
at present if there is blank space in front and end of email id then the validation doesnt passes and gives alert.
what should i add in it to validate it or how can it automatically remove white spaces before validating.
How can I to delete white spaces around parameter that I to pass with HTML forms. For example, if I have 'firstname lastname ' or ' firstname lastname', exist it a builtin function in javascript to obtian 'firstname lastname'?
I have a form where I ask my users for a comma seperated web site list. I want to make sure this list only contains the host names of URLs without any white spaces
Original list: [url], [url], [url],[url]
Edited list:[url],[url],[url],[url]
Currently I have the following to get the comma separated list
Code:
var list = document.getElementById( "list" ).value ;
I currently have a <p> where it changes to a textarea when a button is clicked How do I preserve the whitespace when saving that text to a database and displaying back to a <p>?
Question 1 ---------------- I am writing an advanced BBCode system for my forums and I would like to be able to find where the cursor was positioned last in the text so I could insert the BBCode there.
Question 2 ---------------- Again I am writing an advanced BBCode system for my forums and I would like to make is so that when someone puts in a [b] tag it goes bold, so kind of a WYSIWYG editor and also for other things like [img] tags and [url] tags. So could someone tell me how to do that. I would preferably like it to still use the textarea tag, or at least a form component so my existing code works.
I want to add syntax highlighting to my textareas, however, I know nothing of Javascript Is there a way to take the contents of a textarea through a PHP function that will highlight it everytime the spacebar or enter is pressed?
What i want is: I have a textarea. When user selects some text and presses a button "[smth]" is added to the begin and end of selected text. How can i do this? It must work on all browsers. The same thing makes daniweb when you format a text (post).
I have a listbox and a textbox. when you select a item in the listbox the value is displayed in the textbox. what is the best way to update the listbox item when the textbox value is changes and a edit button is clicked?
i have a textbox and a link if I click on the link how would I make it change the contents of the textbox to anything i want such as "hello" how do I edit the contents of a textbox via a link?

I don't know whether jqgrid provides this or not? but what my actual requirement is "I want to display format of date like 'MM/DD/YYYY' behind my birthdate's textbox, so user will enter proper date while he insert/update particular record from jqgrid.." In short how to display format text in jqgrid's insert/edit dialog??
Well it seems that i have a textbox and a textarea under it. Both sizes are 20 but they don't seem identical. Is there a way to make them identical vertically?
I am looking to have the user input a word into a textbox then when the user hits an "Add" button, the word is stored to an array and then is displayed in a table. I also want the textbox to clear after the "Add" button is pressed. Next, I want the user to be able to input another word into the textbox and when the "Add" button is pressed, have that word stored to same array as the first word but just to a different number.ingredient(0)=first word; ingredient(1)=second word. Then I want the second word to be displayed right below the first word in the table, in the next line down.This is what I have so far.[URL]...
I've got this javascript routine (i found on google) in an asp.net page that on page reload sets the cursor of a textbox to the last line. It works great!
Using a similar concept, I have another application that uses a textbox like an editor window and has a save and other buttons. Problem is - when I save/post/reload, the textbox returns to cursor the top again.
How can I preserve / save the exact cursor spot and return to the exact same spot I was in before I saved. Code:
I want to implement a text input box for SMS text messages and the messages are limited to 160 characters (including spaces, etc.). I would like the font color of the text to be green as the user types and any text beyond 160 characters to be red. I would like to do this with one input box, the same box that the user is typing in not a separate display box. This will be on the users local PC it won't be on the Internet.
I have web form (not MVC) that has bunch of textarea and textboxes where user can input HTML markup. For example, a textarea is provided so users can put YouTube embed iframe html tag where it will be shown on their profile. The problem is that asp.net 4.0 http request validation doesn't like things like ">" or "<", etc. I can put pagevalidation="false" on the page and/or revert back to .net 2.0 validation but why would I want to do that since I have geniuses like you guys that can show me how to do what I want with jquery without jeopardizing security.
So what I want to do is form a handler so when the form is submitted, the content of the textboxes and textarea on the page be encoded (i.e. > to > etc.) before the submission to the asp.net 4.0 so we can keep the httprequest validation stuff happy. I have added a class "mustEncode" to each of the textarea and textboxes.
On load, if a select box as the option X selected, display a specific input field.This works, because, after the validation, I go back to the previous page, and the input field is there.However, if someone selects the option X of the selectbox, the input field appears, BUT, if a refresh is made, we lost that input field.I understand this is a normal behavior since, we are on a client-side language, hence it should forget the previous state, but, what is the common workaround for dealing with this, in order to "preserve" the input field after refresh?
In one of my pages, I use javascript (AJAX) to populate one mulitple select field based on user's click event on another control. I noticed that when I navigate back to this page by clicking browser's "Back" button, the changes made to the multiple select is not preserved. (It shows the initial value). While all the other user selections are preserved.
I have a JavaScript application that needs to preserve double quote marks and apostrophes (" and ') that are entered into form fields by the user. The form data is passed through several screens using hidden fields.
Right now, apostrophes work because I have the input fields coded as value="". I have not found a way for JavaScript to retrieve the field's value if double quotes are entered by the user. If I change the parameter to value='' (single quotes) then the apostrophes probably won't work.
Is there a straightforward way for JavaScript to retrieve the field value containing quotes, so that I can manipulate it into a different string that can be easily passed between HTML pages?
Below is the script and form fields I am working with. What I want to do is sum the two textbox fields and have the result show in the total textbox. The code works fine and the total textbox is updated with the value of form1.basic. The problem occurs when I add the "+ parseInt(document.form2.supporter.value)" code in the script section.
