Overriding Methods In Sub Or Base Classes

Jan 20, 2011

In class based languages you can override methods in subclasses like so:
class BaseClass{
methodA(){
print( name() );
}name(){
return "--base--class--";
}}
class SubClass extends BaseClass{
name(){
return "--sub--class--";
}}

So the following code prints "--sub--class--"
(new SubClass).methodA();
So even though methodA belonged to the BaseClass, it called the overridden version found in SubClass. Would the equivalent code in Javascript print "--sub--class--" or "--base--class--" ?

Overriding Styles

Jul 23, 2005

How can i override all the styles being cascaded applied to some HTML
element?

For example:

I have a stylesheet where DIV styles are described
DIV {
padding: 10;
margin: 10;
}

and have HTML code:

<DIV><DIV style="override:all">Test</DIV></DIV>

I would like to not have the inner DIV padding, margin and other
directives described in styles above. Actually I would like to
discover some directive line "override:all"!

I have included the relevant code below.

Getting Href Attribute Of <base> Tag?

Jul 20, 2005

I'm trying to get the href attribute from the base tag in the document
head. The following does not seem to work... any ideas what I'm doing
wrong?

if(!(document.getElementsByTagName) ||
!(basehrefs = document.getElementsByTagName('base')) ||
!(basehrefs.length) || !(basehrefs.length > 0) ||
!(basehrefs[0].getAttribute) ||
!(basehref = basehrefs[0].getAttribute('href')) )
basehref = ''

This is essentially a very cautious version of:

basehref = doument.getElementsByTagName('base')[0].getAttribute('href')

The big hairy if just provides checks to make sure everything can be
done and provide a contingency if it doesn't...

Drop Down Multilevel Vs. Base Href

Jul 20, 2006

I need to make a drop-down menu for my multi-level website. I need all the links on this dropdown to work on every page, no matter on what level (subfolders, sub-subfolders etc.) it's called out.

i have a base href tag on every page set to my index page the links in my drop down menu look like this location='supplies/painting.htm'

where 'supplies' is the folder contained in the main root folder, so it should be working but it's not. Whenever i click on this link while i'm in the 'about_us' folder, it tries to bring out the page 'about_us/supplies/painting.htm'

Only thing left to add is that this script is included "as is" with dreamweaver, and thats why i have no idea how it works. I'd code it myself, but the client wants it that way Code:

OOP - Extending A Class And Overriding A Method?

Jul 14, 2009

I have this class, (just the signature)

javascript Code:

var parent_child = function(po, ps, co, cs){
var url = 'http://xyz.com/abc/';
var pars = [], childs = {}, tmp;
this.p_added = function(urlFrag){

[Code]....

What i want to do is to create a new class with the above one as the super class, pass in one more variable to the constructor and override the p_added function. I thought of doing something like xpc = new parent_child(); and override the function with xpc.prototype.p_added = function(){}

how to pass in another variable to the constructor and make it private to the new class.

I believe there is a nice and concise way to achieve what i want to, but i can't find it. And the fact that OOP in javascript can be implemented in several different ways doesn't help my cause.

I need to provide the user a custome message. I tried many approachs, but non of them seem to work. I tried to use a confirm box instead, but for some reason, the return value for onBeforeUnload event seem to be used as string, so return false to the event CANNOT stop the page from refreshing.

JQuery :: Overriding The Link Function On Certain Browsers

Aug 25, 2009

JQuery and have a problem with an expandable menu I have created for a new Wordpress theme.

With my expandable menu I am simply (slide)toggling the children <ul> by clicking the parent <li>. This should work fine but jQuery is overiding the default event for the anchors in the children resulting in me having a nice expandable menu that animates well but with its links disabled.

As far as I can tell this should work as I am targeting one level of anchor beneath the parent and not any other more deeply nested children.

The problem only applies to the followning browsers - Firefox 3.5, Safari 4, Chrome and ie 8.

It works fine in ie 6 and 7, Firefox 3 and Opera 9.

The jQuery is as follows:

The html structure is as follows:

I left the anchor details (href, title and so on) out just to make the html code a little easier to scan.

Editable DIV - OnBlur Overriding OnClick Event

Feb 6, 2009

I have an editable div, when clicked displays two buttons - save and cancel. When either button is pressed the respective function takes place. The problem I'm having is with the onblur function. When a targetElement loses focus, I want to figure out which new element gained the focus - if it is the save button then I want the save function to fire. However, if it is any other element then I want the cancel function to fire.

I'm trying to figure out once an editable div is selected and the user clicks the save button, how do I determine that the save button was clicked and trigger the save function - because with the onblur method attached to the editable div any click outside the div is interpreted as a call to the onblur method, even if the save button is clicked.

document.getElementById("cancelEdit").onclick = function(){ cancelEdit(targetElement, initialContent ); };
document.getElementById("saveEdit").onclick = function(){ saveEdit(targetElement) };
targetElement.onblur = function(){
if (document.getElementById("saveEdit").onfocus){
saveEdit(targetElement);
} else { cancelEdit(targetElement, initialContent ); }
};

Overriding CSS - Display IFrame When Fully Loaded

Jan 19, 2010

I have a site with the main content displayed in an iFrame. The problem is the outside frame is not exactly rectangular so the iFrame corners go over the corners of frame. I solved this by having the pages in the iFrame transparent and this works fine. However, I wish to only have the iFrame displayed when it is fully loaded. I have pretty much worked this out but there is just one problem. I cannot work out how to set the iFrame to not display initially so I can then change it from Javascript. In other words, I have the following function that shows or hides the iFrame. I simply parse "none" or "block":

Code:
function showHideFrame(display) {
Frame = document.getElementById("frameContent");
Frame.style.display=(display);
}

I then have this function that is called from Flash to change the page. Before the page is changed I hide the iFrame:
Code:
function changeFrame(page) {
Frame = document.getElementById("frameContent");
showHideFrame("none")
Frame.src = page;
}

I then have the iFrame set up as follows:
HTML Code:
<iframe src = "[URl]" id="frameContent" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" onload="showHideFrame('block')></iframe>

The problem with this is that it starts visible. I have tried adding a
HTML Code:
style="display:none;"
To the iFrame but then the javascript cannot set it to block it stays hidden the whole time. I have also tried putting it on the CSS but the effect was the same. So how can I override the CSS? Or set it to be invisible initially?

JQuery :: Passing Base 64 Encoded String Through Ajax?

Feb 1, 2011

I have an image that is encoded as a base 64 string, and I'm having trouble passing that a WCF service using $.ajax(). I initally tried using JSON to pass the argument to the web service, but I kept getting 400 Bad Request errors for anything of reasonable length (if I just pass a test string in, it makes it through, of course). I've tried calling encodeURIComponent on the string before stringifying it, but that hasn't helped. I've also tried various content types ("application/json; charset=utf-8", as well as whatever the default is) and that hasn't made a difference either. Unfortunately, the request is being made through a mobile phone, so debugging options are few. Is there an upper limit to the size of the argument that I'm passing in this? The strings can be a few hundred kb at the low end up to maybe 1 or 2 mb at the high end.

Here is a snippet of the code I am using:

$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "http://www.myserver.com/MyService.svc/MyFunction",
cache: false,

[Code]....

No matter what the string consists of, it errors would with a 400 Bad Request error. No further information.

JQuery :: SetData/getData Events Should Be Capable Of Overriding $.data()'s?

Nov 4, 2010

Check out the official blog post on the 1.4.3 release:[URL]..I am thoroughly confused by this sentence (under "Events"): "jQuery has already had setData and getData events (which are broadcast whenever data is set or gotten through the .data() method) overriding these methods makes it possible to override the default behavior for those features (namely you can return a different value or prevent a value from being set."

1. had setData and getData events overriding these methods" -- which methods? 2. "makes it possible to override the default behavior" I have looked into the source and I cannot think of any way to either "return a different value" or "prevent a value from being set."

Overriding '<a Href' With '<a OnClick' For JavaScript Function OpenWindow(URL) For Image And Link...

Jul 23, 2005

Can anyone assist me with what I am trying to do with the following
code (six different scenarios to try to make the functionality work
correctly)?

I want to always (and ONLY) display in the status bar 'Symantec
Corporation' whenever anyone mouses over (onMouseOver) my image or
link OR when one clicks while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on
the same image or link. Upon releasing the mouse (onMouseOut), the
status bar should be 'blank'. I need the link to open in a new window
via my function openWindow(URL) code.

What is happening in most of the six scenarios, is that when one
clicks the link, either the function doesn't engage, but rather the <a
href= takes effect instead OR that status bar shows
'javascript:openWindow('http://www.symantec.com/');' when one clicks
while holding the left mouse down (onClick) on the image or link.

Additionally, for only the link, I need the CSS/style to show 'red'
when one mouses over (onMouseOver) it and then change to 'blue' upon
releasing the mouse (onMouseOut).

How about integrating 'style="cursor:hand"' into the code or perhaps
setting some of the data via a <div> or <span> snippet? Code:

Manipulating Css Lass And At The Same Time Having A Base Html Statement In My Html File?
