My site inventive.webs.com/ad-hoc contains lists of activities. When a user double clicks on an activity, the text will change to textbox, then double click again on the textbox to return to static text, which is so far working properly. What I want to happen next are:
1. Textbox must return back to static text when user clicks anywhere on the body.
2. When there's an existing textbox, it should return to static text when another activity list is being double clicked.
I've been trying to make a default value in a text box go away when clicked.
The general consensus on this forum and on the rest of the internet seems to be that this code:

But I wonder how I can add a color change to this function. They default value "enter email address here" would be in grey, but when the user begins to type, it would be black. then deleted what'd been typed, back to grey.
document.getElementById(email_box).style.color='#000000'; .....is that too nave..? It didn't work no matter where I put it. And dreamweaver didn't like it when I tried to copy the syntax of the first function, but make it change colors instead. It furthermore hated me trying to assign two different functions to the onClick event.
It also didn't like at all when I tried to apply two classes to the same object..
I have a textbox thats initial text color is set to grey, I want to change the text color to black when the user clicks on it, is this done by using onclick="style=color:Black;" I have tried this and failed but maybe ive got something slightly wrong or is it done a different way completely.

I use scriptaculous to retrieve the hotel names and area names from database in this page. My question is where it says step 3, Search for hotel, chain or location!. Type in syd for example and you see how it retrieves the values from database and shows them underneath. It works fine and the list is generated beautifully. Now I have to add the next step which is filling this text box (from step 3 where you typed syd in) with the value (of the item clicked on). For example once you typed sydney, if you click on Sydney, I want the text field to be filled with value sydney.
I want to use the onclick event to change an image to text. I'm working on a directory type website and want users to have to click on the image of a telephone in order to reveal the telephone number they are looking for. how do i do this? Any way to update URLs on a page depending on the region selected by the user. I have 3 regions, Americas, Europe & Asia. And depending on the region selected I need to update URLs on the page for the different regions.

I am doing a lottery project in which i have 10 textbox and i want to add contents of each textbox and show result in another textbox say 11th textbox.
I am having the fallowing codes below on jsp page.
I want to add contents of textbox from(n50,n51.....n59) and show result in another textbox named (n60)
My question is that the valus stored in textbox is numeric and when i enter the value in any two of the textbox say named (n50 and n51) then the addition of its value must be seen in the result textbox say (n60) here. it does not wait for another textbox value which is left blank. the result of addition should be displayed simelteneously as i enter the value in text box.
I want to make it so that when I click on something, it changes what document.onclick does.

However, as you'll notice, the alert box shows up on the first click as well. The only way I have been able to get around this behaviour is to have the first onclick execute a timer that will then set the document.onclick after 1ms, however this seems very messy to me.

Below is the script and form fields I am working with. What I want to do is sum the two textbox fields and have the result show in the total textbox. The code works fine and the total textbox is updated with the value of form1.basic. The problem occurs when I add the "+ parseInt(document.form2.supporter.value)" code in the script section.
I am new to javascript, and am having an issue, which I'm sure is elementary.. I found a script for expandable content, it suffices fine. As it stands, the script toggles images onclick. For example, whence the menu is collapsed, it displays "plus.gif" next to it, and when the menu is expanded, it displays "minus.gif" next to it.
Basically, what I would like to know is, thus: how would I change it to display text icons next to it? For example, in place of "plus.gif" I should like it to display "+" as actual text. I've dredged a number of places, however, I've found nothing. Furthermore, I cannot figure out how to do it.

I've been teaching myself HTML and CSS for a while, and now I've moved into the world of Javascript (but I'm still very much a beginner). For practice, I've been building a sample sign up form for a mock website, and I'm having problems with the birthdate section. The idea I had was to have MM, DD, and YYYY be the default values of my 3 textboxes (as an example for users), then set the value to nothing when the box gained focus. That all works fine, but I ran into problems when I tried to write an if statement to set the value back to MM, DD, or YYYY if the value was still nothing when the user clicked away. As it is now it just replaces the text inputted into the textbox (which of course is not good). Any ideas for what the problem might be? code...
Another side question, if I set a variable equal to the value of a textbox, then change the value of the variable, does that also change the value of the textbox? or is the variable no longer associated with the textbox. Example code...
does document.form.textbox.value = blue? or is var a now completely independent of the textbox value?
