Multiple Definition Lists - GetElementByID To Class

I am trying to use multiple instances of this little show/hide script for a definition list on the same page. However, the problem is that the definition list must be given an ID, and this can only be used once on a page. [URL]. How would I go about changing this to a class so that I could use it more than once on a page (i.e. multiple definition lists as opposed to one big one)? I changed all of the getElementById to getElementByClass and it didn't seem to work.
I have two div blocks of html that lists out documents for an academic year, one of which is initially display:none and the other is block. I have two links that are "2010 - 2011 Documents" and "2011 - 2012 Documents".
I want it to function such that if the 2011-2012 Documents html block is initially displayed and the user clicks on "2010 - 2011 Documents", it will hide the 2011/2012 block and display the 2010/2011 block.
I have an onclick=toggleMe(a,b) parameter on the links (a and b refer to the two blocks' ids.. the first of which is the block to be displayed and the second is the block to be hidden).

how to change getElementById to a 'class' equivalent? This script works, however, I need to use it 3 times on a page but it uses ID instead of class. The two IDs that I wrap around the images that would scroll are: #marqueecontainer and #vmarquee.
I have a Custom Dropdown Lists that converts Option tags to UL tags with jQuery. The Dropdown List is working perfectly as long as theres just one on each page.I'm trying to figure out how i can have multiple Dropdown Lists (in this case two) on the same page, and how to populate the second Dropdown List (with say Cities from the Country) based on the selection made in the first Dropdown.
Any plugin/website that is jQuery, which will do what this Dojo example does, i.e: [URL]. I am wanting something similar to this as I would like to use as a means of allowing a user to administer a menu structure.
I have a cgi script (using perl for database queries) in which I have two select boxes. I am populating the left select box with rows from a database, and then provide buttons for people to move items to the right select box.
So far so good, everything works, the move right, move left, and move right all and move left all buttons work, data is always sorted in both lists. My only problem is, when I click the submit button, the follow up program only displays data that was highlighted/selected in the right select box, not all of the data in the right select box.
I don't know how to tell the script, via javascript, to highlight everything in the right select box when the submit form button is clicked. I would think i could just call a function via -onClick for the submit button. I could use some help with the function to select all data in that list.
This is a form to subscribe people to a newsletter on Mailchimp. There are two lists: community, student. I am trying to separate people into one or the other based on the checkbox input, "Check if you are a student." To do this, on submit, I need the two hidden inputs, "u" and "id," to be set differently depending on whether the checkbox is checked. The error right now I'm getting is that it's not being linked to a mailing list. Most likely "u" and "id" are not being set properly. The javascript is fairly short, and I'm wondering if its setting the values correctly.

For example if I select a value from 1 dropdown list then 2 dropdown list will appear. And then I select a value from 2 dropdown list then 3 dropdown list will appear. And if I select a value from 3 dropdown list then 4 dropdown list. Multiple selection will be enable. It means every dropdown list may have hundreds of values. Thus, In this situation of multiple selection of values I analyze that, use of dropdown isn't suitable because if a dropdown value has 500 related values then these 500 values disturb the page design.
I have a complex website designed with Jquerry, javaScript and css. The index.html serves as a client ui for an open source poker game. Much of the css is contained in multiple and imported external css files. The javaScript code is also contained in an external file. The site is completely functional. What I am attempting to do is add a feature to the client that will, through a JavaScript function, dynamically change the visibility element of a class.
The classes in question represent the style of the hole cards that a player sees after his cards are dealt. By default they are visible and face up. I would like to change this default behaviour by first changing their visibility element default value to hidden (easy). Then I intend to create a div with onMouseOver and onMouseOut events that will invoke the JavaScript function which will toggle the visibility element value. This will in turn show and hide the hole cards (not easy). I have attempted to use document.getElementById() but without success. After much hacking, I have the feeling that this is not the proper way of directly changing the visibility element value of a class. Here is the relevant class info (how the cards are displayed in the browser) in the external css file
I have a 'confirm' form that hides a table when a certain field contains a null value.I actually need 3 fields to be null in order for the table not to show rather than one.here part of the working code.

The code works, but it obviously can't be used for more than one picture per page because getElementById finds the first div and always displays it onmouseover of any attempted mouseover text.The Javascript in <head> is

The short of it is that I am trying to change the background color of all elements with a particular class name. I know there is no getElementsByClassName (wouldn't it be nice if there were?), but is there a simple way to do it? Alternatively, is there a way to apply changes to multiple id's?

I need to make active the first <a> of each one this ul's and it need to be done in Js (when i say active i mean the <a> text will become bolded, so right now i've been trying using a each but no luck yet, it only selects the first it encounters.
I have some jQuery code to add and remove a class to toggle an image. It works for one but now I want it to work if I add other checkboxes. Currently all the checkboxes change the 1st div. I would like to make it toggle it's respective div.

In the past I've done image rollovers and that's fine. I got scripts for those, and got them to switch fine. But what I want to do is edit the backgroudn color of a TD, which is code defined, and not an image. Anyways, the basic thing I'm doing is a table that hold lots of numbers. I'm creating a "times table" - which looks roughly something like this:
Now, when you rollover, let's say, the '6' - the TD background color for the '6', left '2' and top '3' would change to a different color (bolded in this example). This would work the same way for every other number as well, which involves overlapping classes. I've search for an answer for hours, to no avail. This works, but I have a whole class of divs named select that need their own individual description divs. Id method is okay for one div apparently, but if I click on others it loads the first description div. What do I use instead? I tried getElementsByName and Atrribute and got an error.
