Show / Hide A Class With Document.getElementById?

I have a complex website designed with Jquerry, javaScript and css. The index.html serves as a client ui for an open source poker game. Much of the css is contained in multiple and imported external css files. The javaScript code is also contained in an external file. The site is completely functional. What I am attempting to do is add a feature to the client that will, through a JavaScript function, dynamically change the visibility element of a class.
The classes in question represent the style of the hole cards that a player sees after his cards are dealt. By default they are visible and face up. I would like to change this default behaviour by first changing their visibility element default value to hidden (easy). Then I intend to create a div with onMouseOver and onMouseOut events that will invoke the JavaScript function which will toggle the visibility element value. This will in turn show and hide the hole cards (not easy). I have attempted to use document.getElementById() but without success. After much hacking, I have the feeling that this is not the proper way of directly changing the visibility element value of a class. I have the situation where in the first instance I would like all divs to be visible.
Only when the user selects something in a select menu the non selected divs will hide.
I have the following:

<option value="Selection2">2</option>

So, if the user were to select "Selection1" two divs should only be visible. The same will apply for others, if "selection4" is made then only one div would be visible.
The user will need to the option to reset and display all divs by using the "ShowAll" selector.
I ahve seen examples of this on the net however, they do not show all the divs in the first instance and they are donhe by ID and not class. I need to do it by class as I have some with the same name and they cannot change.

oving jQuery at the moment, and have sort of hit a hiccup with showing and hiding specific elements with the same class. My idea is, what if I wanted to add a little button to show and hide the contents of a specific comment on a forum post, or blog, whatever. This would be easily done with id's but I'd like to just apply a class to each one of them and allow them to hide their contents. Here is the javascript and html as an example of what I am talking about.

I've got a PHP while loop spitting out an article title and it's content from a database and I have links to show or hide the content of the article under each title. I tried simply putting using jquery hide/show on the divs, but as you'd expect this will show and hide every div at the same time. I want to show and hide the content of the article selected as you'd expect.s!

I am trying to show and hide different div objects on a webpage all with different ID's as you can see. Only the first object will work "('killstreakwin')", or any that is put first, none of the others work after that. It's not the HTML side, it's definatly the javascript function. I've tried to use a loop but I don't know how to implement it into something like this.

I want to restrict getElementById to search children of a specific element instead of searching the entire document, in the same way that I can do getElementsByTagName using a specific element as the parent.
In this particular instance the parent is a table and the elements I'm interested in are all TDs, so I did the basic getElementsByTagName('TD') off the table and looped through this array checking the IDs. However, I'm suspecting that the browser can do getElementById faster than I can do a loop in javascript. Is there a neater way to do this? For now, I'll settle for IE-only solutions, though it would be nice to have things work in generic browsers.

I have the following code that don't work like i want it.

For example.It show objects if I remove the if statement that checks if the class is visible.for example this shows a class and works.

how to change getElementById to a 'class' equivalent? This script works, however, I need to use it 3 times on a page but it uses ID instead of class. The two IDs that I wrap around the images that would scroll are: #marqueecontainer and #vmarquee.
I tried getElementByClass but it doesn't work.

I have an onchange method for a select box that goes something like
this (the select is in a form named aForm):

Basically i'm trying to draw a box over an image which
is turning out to be a nightmare. The problem i'm getting at the moment
is that i'm creating a line with <div which works when it's not hidden
but I need to be able to make it hidden so I can use layers to show all
when it finished drawing to make it smoother. This is how some other
scripts are doing it that i've seen. So i've got it drawing a line and I
need getElementById to pick out the layer but it's only picking out NULL
with the one i've got enabled below. I've tried the others but they just
come out as errors. I need to get top2 which is the <div line to show
itself but I can't seem to reference it by getElementById. I use linux
mozilla so i need it working in mozilla as well as windows that's why
i'm using getElementById. My code is below any ideas anyone?

I am trying to use document.getElementById in FF but its not working. There is a main page. in that mainpage there is a iframe and in that iframe (id = DocFrame) there is a textbox (id="fileuploadedcnt") which i am trying to access. there is no error. ofcourse i have given name and id to the textbox. Below is the code

First a little background. I have a client (in-house) who insists that our training pages (launched from within iframes on a parent page) be able to load .wmv files with variables for the width and height parameters so we don't have to recode when videos are switched. Flash videos are not an option.
