Jquery :: Multiple Custom Dropdown Lists
Nov 4, 2010
I have a Custom Dropdown Lists that converts Option tags to UL tags with jQuery. The Dropdown List is working perfectly as long as theres just one on each page.I'm trying to figure out how i can have multiple Dropdown Lists (in this case two) on the same page, and how to populate the second Dropdown List (with say Cities from the Country) based on the selection made in the first Dropdown.

Dependable dropdown lists (4 level)
1 Level dropdown list
2 Level dropdown list
3 Level dropdown list
4 Level dropdown list
Every dropdown list is depends on another dropdown list
For example if I select a value from 1 dropdown list then 2 dropdown list will appear. And then I select a value from 2 dropdown list then 3 dropdown list will appear. And if I select a value from 3 dropdown list then 4 dropdown list. Multiple selection will be enable. It means every dropdown list may have hundreds of values. Thus, In this situation of multiple selection of values I analyze that, use of dropdown isn't suitable because if a dropdown value has 500 related values then these 500 values disturb the page design.

I've been stumped. I'm usually good at figuring this stuff out, but I'm completely confounded here.I have a form with tables in it to add items to a series. The rows are being added dynamically by Jquery on the click event.
$('#add_hybrid').click(function(){
$('#hybrid tr:last').after('<tr><td width="15%"><?=brands('hybrid');?><input name="clubtypes[]" value="6" type="hidden" /></td><td width="25%"><?

So my problem is that I've got a main navigation with a dropdown menu underneath "products". I positioned the dropdown menu, set it to display: none, then wrote jQuery to slideToggle the menu when a particular LI is hovered over. The issue is that when I hover over the "Products" LI and try to hover over the dropdown, it disappears because I'm no longer hovering over that LI.
You're probably thinking "Just make nested lists!!!!". Well, I don't want to. I've got some jQuery being applied to the main navigation that I don't want to effect the dropdown. I just want a way to be sure the dropdown is open when the mouse is hovered over either the main LI or the dropdown UL and that the dropdown is closed when the mouse is hovered over neither.
In my code I've tried to make it so that if the mouse is over the dropdown UL it stays open, but the mouse leaving the LI trumps that maybe? HELP PLEASE! My HTML and jQuery is below.

I have two dropdown lists, and I want to have each option from the first dropdown list to give the specific options on the second dropdown list. For instance,
<select name="module">
<option value="pic1.jpg>TM1</option>
<option value="pic2.jpg>TM2</option>
<option value="pic3.jpg>TM3</option>
[Code].....
Note: The option values are just examples, but each option must have a value in order for other things to work.
Here is what I need to do:
If TM1 is selected, only Box1 and Box 2 are available (Box3 is removed from the dropdown "location" list);
If TM2 is selected, only Box 2 is available (Box 1 and 3 are removed from the dropdown "location" list);
If TM3 is selected, all options in the dropdown "location" list are available.

I have two dropdown lists, and I want to have each option from the first dropdown list to give the specific options on the second dropdown list.Anyway, let me show you what I really want to do. Please see the code below. If you want to properly run this, please make six dummy images and name them as followed: silo_1_ empty.jpg, silo_2_empty.jpg, silo_3_empty.jpg, tm1.jpg, tm2.jpg, tm3.jpg.What I want to do next is to apply a restriction to the dropdown lists. For instance, if TM#1 is selected, only Silo1 can be selected from the LOCATIONS, and Silo2 and 3 will be removed from the option. If TM#2 is selected, Silo 2 and 3 can be selected and Silo 1 will be removed. TM#3 can be in all locations.
In total, there are 12 modules and 20 locations. Each module image can only appear in one location at a time, but the options to select a location are restricted.

Any plugin/website that is jQuery, which will do what this Dojo example does, i.e: [URL]. I am wanting something similar to this as I would like to use as a means of allowing a user to administer a menu structure.

I'm trying to build a custom dropdown to replace a select box. I want it to act exactly like a select box where if you click anywhere off of the select, it will close it. Here's what I have so far:
Code:
<!doctype html>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />

I am trying to use multiple instances of this little show/hide script for a definition list on the same page. However, the problem is that the definition list must be given an ID, and this can only be used once on a page. [URL]. How would I go about changing this to a class so that I could use it more than once on a page (i.e. multiple definition lists as opposed to one big one)? I changed all of the getElementById to getElementByClass and it didn't seem to work.

I have a cgi script (using perl for database queries) in which I have two select boxes. I am populating the left select box with rows from a database, and then provide buttons for people to move items to the right select box.
So far so good, everything works, the move right, move left, and move right all and move left all buttons work, data is always sorted in both lists. My only problem is, when I click the submit button, the follow up program only displays data that was highlighted/selected in the right select box, not all of the data in the right select box.
I don't know how to tell the script, via javascript, to highlight everything in the right select box when the submit form button is clicked. I would think i could just call a function via -onClick for the submit button. I could use some help with the function to select all data in that list.

function changeinput(){

This is a form to subscribe people to a newsletter on Mailchimp. There are two lists: community, student. I am trying to separate people into one or the other based on the checkbox input, "Check if you are a student." To do this, on submit, I need the two hidden inputs, "u" and "id," to be set differently depending on whether the checkbox is checked. The error right now I'm getting is that it's not being linked to a mailing list. Most likely "u" and "id" are not being set properly. The javascript is fairly short, and I'm wondering if its setting the values correctly.

MY GOAL - I have a database with a bunch of items and each has latitude, longitude and a category (all the items are within 1 city). I want to have a page that will show a google map, display a marker based on the lat/lng and the image of the marker should be customized based on the category of the row. For example, some rows have a 'food' category and some have a 'health' category - I have specific images I want displayed for each image. I need a script that will plot a marker for each item in my db. I have never used Google maps API before and I'm thinking V3 is what I need to use.
$query=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM table");
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($query)){
$lat=$row['lat'];
$lng=$row['lng'];
$category=$row['category'];
//SET MARKER PICTURE TO $category
//ADD MARKER TO MAP
}
I don't know javascript that well and I have tried about 40 different things and get nothing but a blank page!

With changeYear: true, yearRange: '-10:+1', and numberOfMonths: 1, the year dropdown shows 2000-2011, as expected. With every other numberOfMonths I tried, it shows only 2010. Is there some dependency I don't know about between these settings that means something has to be done differently?

Not a seasonsed JS user; I would like to have a number of dropdown forms on a page and have JS sum the total value up as the user makes their way down the page and selects values. I've googled the daylights out of this and come up with a proof of concept below - if I could get it to work right, I would apply to a larger page. It will live on a Sharepoint server so I can't just use PHP to handle the summing.

Is it possible to pull multiple variables from a single dropdown menu selection?
Example:
I have this:
function material_choices_menu() /* Provides Specific Gravity for various materials */{
var data = "Material <select name='material'>";
data += "<option value='.926'>CYCOLAC MG47 (ABS)</option>";
data += "<option value='1.050'>CYCOLAC MG47MD (ABS)</option>";
data += "<option value='.958'>CYCOLAC T (ABS)</option>";
data += "</select>";
document.write(data);
}
I'd like to have multiple option values:
function material_choices_menu() /* Provides Specific Gravity for various materials */{
var data = "Material <select name='material'>";
data += "<option value1='.926', option value2='.005-.008'>CYCOLAC MG47 (ABS)</option>";
data += "<option value1='1.050', option value2='.005-.008'>CYCOLAC MG47MD (ABS)</option>";
data += "<option value1='.958', option value2='.005-.008'>CYCOLAC T (ABS)</option>";
data += "</select>";
document.write(data);
}
I plan to use the first value in some math formulas to determine weights and the rest of the values will just be shown as data for the user and/or possibly a link to the datasheet for the material selected.

I'm populating a couple of dropdown boxes from an xml file, but can't get them working independently. As you can seehtmwhen you select an item from the first select box (a polyline), itdisplays the corresponding item from the other box (a polygon), too.I found this answer on the google maps forum:"Don't know of an example, but building two select boxes isn'tdifficult: pass into your createMarker() function the relevant flag,and add the data to one of two variables (instead of everything beingadded to select_html as now).You shouldn't need two handleSelected() functions -- both select listscan use the same function because each select box passes itself("this") into the function."which is what I thought I did (making sel_html and select_html) butmaybe the two variables being discussed here are different ones?cross-posted on the google maps forum here and here but not answered.

The second menu is populating correctly from the first menu. The third menu doesn't work because it is not pulling the cat1 & cat2 values. I suspect it is the "checkNew" function, which I tried (with limited Javascript knowledge) to copy and alter from the "checkSelected" function.

I am developing a messaging service between members of my site. I am developing this with asp.net mvc. When a user goes to the SendMessage view to send a message to another member, there is a dropdown list which presents the sender with all the members of the site, which he or she will pick as the recipient. However, i don't want it to be a dropdown, i want it to be a text box, where a user types in the first couple of letters of a name, and the dropdown appears then with only the members which have the same couple of letters. This is basically like every email system out there (facebook and gmail have it just like that). And after they chose one, they can select another one in the same textbox, just separated by a comma or something like that. Basically, how do i achieve that in javascript? I'm not even sure what that functionality is called, that's why i had to explain it properly.

I'm using a bit of Javascript to display content based on the dropdown selection:http://jsfiddle.net/mcgarriers/wjLXk/However, I would like it when the user selects "show two" that it shows the 2 div elements rather than specifically div2.And for "show three" it would show all 3 divs.
