JQuery :: Ajax Post - Accessing Return Data / Result Variable

Nov 30, 2010

So I'm currently working on a ASP.NET Webforms site and I've run in to a small problem. On my .cs file I have the following Webmethod

[WebMethod]
public static string IsJobEditable(int jobid){
try{
string isEditable = "false";
JobsBLL jbl = new JobsBLL();
int jobStatusId = jbl.GetJobStatusId(jobid);
//If the jobs is either waiting or being edited it is
okay to edit it
if(jobStatusId ==
Convert.ToInt32(ConstantsUtil.JobStatus.Waiting) || jobStatusId ==
Convert.ToInt32(ConstantsUtil.JobStatus.Edit)){
isEditable = "true";
}return isEditable;
}catch (Exception ex){
throw ex;
}}

This function in this case will ALWAYS return TRUE as a string. On Aspx page I have the following
$(function () {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "Coordination.aspx/IsJobEditable",
data: "{jobid:" + jobid + "}",
contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8",
dataType: "text",
success: function (result) {
alert(result);

//This is written out in the alert {"d":"true"}
I want this in a variable as a string so I can do a check on it before I do some other actions. The format is not a String so I cannot split on it to retrieve the "true" part.
},
error: function (err, result) { alert(err); }
});});

As you can see in the comments the value I get back in the Callback method is in to me a weird format. The type is unknown and I need this value to be able to proceed with my entire method surrounding the small portion of the Javascript. Where to access the result variable / data as a var or anything else that will let me put it into a var (as a string).

Checking For Invalid Data In An Input

Mar 10, 2011

I am wanting all the inputs of the table cells turn red when invalid data (in this case anything other than a number) is entered. Object:

1. To add a className to those inputs
2. With the new className 'invalid" the CSS gives a red background to the input The appending of the className is not showing up in the generated source code and both Firefox and Chrome is not showing any errors in the code. I can't not figure out what is preventing the execution.

JQuery :: Checking Every Checkbox In DIV

May 10, 2010

The page I am working on will have a series of checkboxes. The boxes will be in the format of "parent" with one checkbox and then a "child" div with multiple checkboxes. The idea is being able to check a parent checkbox and have all the checkboxes in the preceding child div get checked as well.

Here is the layout:
<div class= "parent_div">
<label>
parent
</label><input type='checkbox'/>
</div>
<div class = "child_div" >
<label> child </label>
<input type = 'checkbox'/> .....
This does not work. The checkboxes do not get checked.

I know that the selector is working because if I assign a function to them like this:
$(".parent_div INPUT[type='checkbox']").
change(
function(){
var child = $ ( this ).
parent().
next( ".child_div" ); $ ( child ).
children ().
change (
function (){
alert (
"changed"
); }); });

It will work, the function get"s assigned to each checkbox in the div. Why my boxes are not getting checked? On a side note I found this curious, if I try to access the checkboxes by specifying a selector type in the children method like this :
$( child ).
children ( "INPUT[type='checkbox']" )
or
$( child ).
children ( "input" )
It doesn't select the boxes. In case anyone mentions it I know that the child divs are not actually children of the parent divs, all these values are coming from a database and the names were chosen based on the database relationships.
