Maximum Javascript Code In IE Browsers...?

Apr 20, 2003

Q: I have a pretty big html page - about 1,500 lines of code, 1,000 of which is javascript. (It's also referencing other javascript code, perhaps another 2,000 lines or so).

When I boot up the page in a fresh browser, it invariably crashes; the page just hangs. But, after killing the browser, and opening it up in a new one, the page seems to run fine. Is there some sort of javascript code limit that a web page / browser can handle...? Anyone know if there's a way to get around this? [Did I misread the problem? I'm pretty sure my code is fine.] Code:

Code Doesn't Work In Firefox 3.7 Beta But Works In All Other Browsers

Jun 2, 2010

I recently made a simple tool that opens a website in an iFrame and tells the user how long the page took to load. I made it out of a premade stopwatch

When i run the test in most browsers (Chrome, Firefox 3.6 and older, IE) it works fine with the output textbox going from "Please run the test" to "Test Running" to [TIME TAKEN FOR PAGE TO LOAD] but in firefox 3.7 (Minefield) it goes from "Please run the test" to "0" every time and the page in the iFrame doesn't load.

I've read that Firefox 3.7 has a new Javascript Engine

The test is at [URL] and the problem code is on THIS PAGE (Use View Source in your browser)

Javascript To Read From Another URL And Display Output?

Mar 2, 2006

I would like to some javascript connect to a URL on the same webserver
and read a CGI. The output from this CGI is not plain HTML but rather
data which needs to be displayed in a moving graph. Coming from a Perl
background I'd say I'm looking to do something like:

while (my $data = read_url(http://whatever) {
print some pretty moving data across the screen;
}

Is something like this possible to do in javascript?

What Is Percentage Of Browsers With Disabled JavaScript ?

Dec 16, 2006

I am wondering if anybody can provide statistics what is percentage of visitors with disabled JavaScript.

Even more interesting would be statistics of users with disabled JavaScript making a purchase. I am more likely to purchase from my home than from work and I think the disabled JS is mostly result of IT dept. policies.

JavaScript Blocked By New Version Browsers

Mar 19, 2005

I have a lot of JavaScript code I wrote to add special features and effects to my Web sites. The problem is, with the latest versions of Web browsers, all browser-side scripts are blocked. Most users who visits will either not know how to adjust their security features to allow scripts or will not want to change their settings. In a case where the script is vital to the functioning of the Web page, what is the alternative?

For example, one of my script is for a drop-down menu that takes the user to the selected section from the drop-down menu.

The other feature I need is roll-over that highlight parts of a map so that the user can make a selection.

Is there something I can add to my JavaScript code to prevent browsers from blocking it or is there a different way of using these features with a different script?

Output Data From Mysql Database In Javascript?

Mar 16, 2004

Not sure if this is the correct forum as it covers data retrieved from mysql in a .js file...

I need to grab the last 5 rows from my database (2 fields per row) and list all 5 in a table but from within a .js file that I can externally link to.

I can manage the php / mysql and the output to a .php page but how can this be contained within a .js file?

I believe it is possible but after 2 days of searching on google I'm appealing for assistance.

I realise this could be done with a php include or iframe but that isn't an option and the only way available to import this data is via an external javascript script.

Prevent JavaScript File Caching In All Browsers

May 14, 2007

I'm currently using this method to refer to my JavaScript files:

<script type="text/javascript" src="filename.js"></script>
While doing work for some clients I have made changes to the the JavaScript file referenced above. Because their browser has cached it, they end up getting errors on the page unless they hard refresh and get the new version of the file.

Is there anyway to make the JavaScript file come down fresh if it has been modified since the last download?

Save The Output Xml File, Get Error Permission Denied , Error Code 0?

Jul 18, 2009

I am developing a web page . For this i am using Javascript embedded in html. In the application ,the user can input data via interfaces in the page which is chosen and read from a master xml file , the chosen data then needs to be stored and saved in a xml file.I have designed the web page in FrontPage.

Now the problem i face is while trying to save the output xml file i get error Permission Denied , error code 0 . This happens when i try to open the page in browser IE 6.0 SP2.I am using DOM parser methods for doing the xml manipulations/savings etc.urprisingly this works in another machine.Also can i use the all of the same javascript code if i want to run it in an IIS. Do i have to do some changes to make it server side javascript code.

JQuery :: Href In Output Code Causing $getJson() Function To Try To Load Up A File With Href In Url

Jul 12, 2010

I'm using the following code (simplified version) to call a Json file, parse it and on each iteration, create a div with an ID of "tab". I'm using this with jQuery UI .tab() to create a listing with entries which have three tabs. Anyhow, the principle seems to work except that when I examine what's happening behind the scenes using Firefox console, I see that each href in the html code produced is causing the Json function to re-fire using the href as it's url target.

Browser Detect To Load Specific Code For Specific Browsers?

Oct 6, 2009

Another thing that has been driving me crazy is that css positioning is handled differently by different browsers. JS is not my area, but I can do a lot with CSS, and I do, but cross browser compatibility is killing me.

I can use an IF IE statement and only IE runs that segment of code, but I haven't been able to figure out out how to make ONLY firefox or ONLY opera or safari enact an encapsulated segment of code. The same type of IF statement doesn't work for them.

Is there a single method using JS that works for all browsers?

Browsers Off Not Access <script Type="text/javascript" Src="...files?

Apr 17, 2009

just came across this in a book for browser javascript on/off detection:

Code:
<noscript>
<img src="monitor.php?scriptoff=true" />
</noscript>
just wondering if browsers when js is off will ever access any
<script type="text/javascript" src="file.js"></script>

files? i mean wouldn't it be better not to bother with the noscript thing and just be aware of if file.js is accessed? or do some browsers access the file.js even when js is off?

How To Run An Asp Code In Javascript?

Jul 23, 2005

I am working on a piece of code for an academic experiment and it
puzzled me for days, any help?

I use javascript to sort a table in a html page. bascially, a user can
click on any attributes and the javascript code will rank the contents
of the table based on that attribute. This is done.

Now I want to record the click information into an access database.
basically, wheneve the user click an attribute, I want to use asp code
to insert the click information (userid, attribute_clicked) into an
access database.

My current solution is use window.open in javascript and in the open
function, I insert the url of the asp. something like this:

var nW = window.open('', 'newwnd', 'width=0,height=0,left=0,top=0');
nW.location.href = "desc.asp?subjectid="+ subjectid + "&item=" +
attributeinfo;
nW = null;

However, the problem is there is always a popup windows appears when
the code was executed.

What i want to know is if there is anyway to let the asp code running
in the background invisibly by user?
