Adding PHP Into Javascript Output

Nov 6, 2005

I want to dispaly different things if the screen size is different.

I have this

<script language="javascript">
if(window.screen.width <= 800)
{
document.write("small");
}
else
{
document.write("large");
}
</script>

I want to add PHP within the document.write, how would I do that? For example I want to do this:

<script language="javascript">
if(window.screen.width <= 800)
{
document.write("small");
}
else
{
document.write("large <?php echo $variable; ?> more text");
}
</script>

Adding Output Of Script To A Link

Sep 26, 2005

I have a link to a callender and I want that link to be like <A href="http://blahblah.com/blah/callender.html#Month> so it'll default down to the current month's events. I already have a script that gives me the month, but the problem is that the link is inside a frammed page and there seems to be no way that can incorperate where the target is when (in the script) I do "document.write(TEXT.link(URL))" where the URL is what I want the link to be.

Javascript To Read From Another URL And Display Output?

Mar 2, 2006

I would like to some javascript connect to a URL on the same webserver
and read a CGI. The output from this CGI is not plain HTML but rather
data which needs to be displayed in a moving graph. Coming from a Perl
background I'd say I'm looking to do something like:

while (my $data = read_url(http://whatever) {
print some pretty moving data across the screen;
}

Is something like this possible to do in javascript?

Output Data From Mysql Database In Javascript?

Mar 16, 2004

Not sure if this is the correct forum as it covers data retrieved from mysql in a .js file...

I need to grab the last 5 rows from my database (2 fields per row) and list all 5 in a table but from within a .js file that I can externally link to.

I can manage the php / mysql and the output to a .php page but how can this be contained within a .js file?

I believe it is possible but after 2 days of searching on google I'm appealing for assistance.

I realise this could be done with a php include or iframe but that isn't an option and the only way available to import this data is via an external javascript script.

Adding ALT Tag Within This Javascript ?

Sep 16, 2001

I wish to add an ALT command to the following Javascript.

I have tried it with a ' /' /" or just " but always get an error message. I wish to add the ALT command to the URL link as is months [9].

How do I do it?

Also, I don't suppose there's any way of adding a mouseover command to the link while it is within this Javascript is there?

Code:
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">

<!-- Begin
var months=new Array(13);
months[1]="this New Year!";
months[2]="this February!";
months[3]="this March";
months[4]="this Spring";
months[5]="this Spring";
months[6]="this June";
months[7]="this summer";
months[8]="this August <a href=http://www.augustwebsite.com August</a>";
months[9]="this <a href=http://www.septemberwebsite.com September</a>";

var time=new Date();
var lmonth=months[time.getMonth() + 1];
document.write(lmonth);

// End -->

Adding Javascript Dynamically

Dec 7, 2002

I'm currently looking at data-piping ie making server calls without reloading the page, the server returning some data to a cookie and the calling page using that same data on the page using DHTML. So far so good...

But is it possible to actually use javascript to actually write more javascript onto the page? Or, alternatively, is it possible to dynamically add a call to an external javascript file.

Something like...

document.writeln('<script src="script.js")

The idea being that the server could return functions for the calling page to use, which would be very nice for complex web applications.

If you can do this, what issues do you need to be aware of?

If you can't, are there any ways of achieveing the same things? I'm thinking of things like dynamically adding a scriptlet call to the page in Windows IE, though a more cross-browser solution would be cool.

Adding An Onclick Event To A Div From Within Javascript

At the moment the ajax communication and handling of the response is working fine. After i processed this, i want to switch the arrows, basically add onclick to the previously non-active arrow and then nullify the previously active arrow. How do i go about doing this? Below is my attempt at solving it, with no luck. Code:

Dynamically Adding Javascript Functions On The Fly?

Apr 1, 2006

Might there be a way to add a set of Javascript functions to a display page's existing set of Javascript functions on the fly without reloading the display page, and if so, how?

A couple of approaches I have tried, but without success are:

- A) For an embedded "retriever" IFrame in the display page to retrieve a set of JS functions from the server and then on its "onload" transfer (by innerHTML transference) that set of functions into the parent display page.

- B) Similiar to "A" but to use regular old browser frames - one being the "retriever" and one being the display page.

- C) Using a JS function in the display page to make a http request for a supplementary .js file(s).

Please note: the goal is to retrieve *only* an additional set of Javascript functions from the server, and then add them to an "original" set of functions already loaded into the browser. Meaning, NOT - say - for an IFrame to download from the server *both* the additional set and again the "original" set, which the parent display page could then run directly from the IFrame.

After "A", "B", and "C", I'm at a loss for further ideas.

Javascript And PHP Page Problem After Adding New Button

Jul 20, 2005

I took over management of an established website that I discovered was
written in php and javascript (I am only familiar with html).

I needed to add in a new button so I looked at the code, copied the
code and pasted for the button above and typed over it the names of
the gifs and gave it a new button number. I found another place in the
code that appeared to relate so I did the same there too.

After uploading I tested my new button, it worked, so I deleted the
original copy I had made of the page.....

Problem was the new button is now the only one that works and I have
no idea how to undo what I did to make it work again.

Dynamically Adding Form Fields By Javascript

Nov 2, 2004

My client wants to upload multiple files to the server using the FILE type input of the form. Their requirement says that once they click the browse button of the FILE INPUT type , besides file browsing window another FILE FIELD is added at the bottom of this one. and when the user clicks the browse button of second, it adds another until the user clicks the UPLOAD button to submit the form.

I dont know it is possible or not ???? if yes then please tell me how.

The alternate way is to give drop down menu with number and when the USER chooses certain number then ..that amount of FILE FORM FIELDS will be added. i.e if user chooses 3 then three file fields are there to upload 3 files at a time.

I have written a script that i am pasting here, but when i choose the drop down menu and select value the FILE FIELDS are shown but the original drop down menu vanishes..
Please review my code and modify it or refer some script to me.

IF The first choice is possible, i mean adding each FILED by browse button click , then tell me its code, other wise modify this code that i am pasting or give me some link to download a premade script. Code:

Submit Adding Back In Checkboxes That Were Unchecked In Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

The following script is supposed to have high categories as radio buttons and mid categories as check boxes. Clicking the radio button is supposed to select all checkboxes under it and submit the form.

RADIO (ID = 0001-1 VALUE="")
CHECK (ID=0001-0011)
CHECK (ID=0001-0012)
RADIO (ID = 0001-2 VALUE="")
CHECK (ID=0001-0021)
CHECK (ID=0001-0022)

The code appears to be checking and unchecking the correct checkboxes. But when the submit occurs, the buttons that were unchecked become checked again.

function handleHighCatSelect(obj)
{
var highCatName = obj.name;
var highCatNameInMidCat = highCatName.substring(0,5) + "00" +
highCatName.substring(5,6);
alert(highCatName);
var length = document.frm.elements.length;
for (var i=0;i<length;i++)
{
var formObj = document.basicSearchMFSFrm.elements[i];
var currName = formObj.name;
var currValue = formObj.value;

if ((formObj.type == 'radio' || formObj.type == 'checkbox')
&& (currName.indexOf(&#55612;&#57201;-') != -1) )
{
if ((currName.indexOf(highCatNameInMidCat) != -1) ||
(currName == highCatName ) )
{
formObj.checked = true;
}
else
{
formObj.checked = false;
}
}
}
frm.submit();

Output Compression

Jul 23, 2005

There's a setting in php.ini: zlib.output_compression = xxx

If it is set to "On", php will bzip the output of scripts so that there is
less data to transfer to the client.
I found that this setting is quite useful especially on slow connections,
but I have a slight problem with it: it also compresses output of scripts
which generate pdf files. While Mozilla / Firefox handles this well, IE
simply fails to show the document.

Is there any way to tell PHP not to compress output of certain scripts. Is
there a command for that?

How To Output Current Url

Nov 16, 2011

How do you simply output the current url in the browser i.e if i am in google.com I want google.com outputted and so on.Also on multilanguage sites if my url is say www.mydomain.com/en/about.html or www.mydomain.com/en/animals/horses/racehorses/stallions.html I want to be able to manipulate the url so I can change en to fr for example when I jump between english and french pages. I want users to be able to switch the language of that particular page by clicking a link. I need to be able to switch segment one of the url (en,fr,de etc...)dynamically somehow instead of hardcoding a link into each page.

Disappearing Output / What To Fix It?

Jul 23, 2011

I have a html form that is submitted with a submit button code...

if I display the output using the alert methods(now commented out) they work fine. I was hoping to display my messages in the div with id of output.
When that didn't work I tried to see if I could send anything to the div.
When I click the submit button the message "WTF" appears for at most half a second. I'm hoping to get it to stick around. I'm sure it has something to do with how form submission works. Maybe I need to submit to the same page? can I do that with JS?
