Feb 25, 2011I'm putting together a site for a pal's band. I've got a sliding div that slides up when a link (with text) is clicked and back down when the link is clicked using:

$('#bottom-blog-button a').click(function(e) {
$('#home-content').slideToggle();

});
and some corresponding CSS. What I'd like to do is make the link that triggers the event to change text whenever the div is visible and change back when it returns to hidden (like "show div" / "hide div").

Jun 9, 2009I'm trying to change a word in an animated collapsible div script from Dynamic Drive. When clicking "Hide" I want the word to change to "Show". I have part of the script, but it's not working correctly - it just removes "Hide" when clicking on it. See the example here.

Dec 11, 2011I've noticed that the change event isn't fired on a text input when it's value is changed by JavaScript. It fires just fine when I type in the input and then lose focus. Example:

I think have JavaScript which changes the value of the input dynamically.

Feb 7, 2011I'm making an ajax call to my server and then, with the information I get back,ynamically creating HTML with jQuery, then appending it to my desired div. This part works excellently. The issue I'm having trouble with is I'm only returning five records, so I'm creating a span at the bottom labeled "see all", but even if I give that span a class,it's clearly not registering in the DOM because when I click it, my jQuery code doesn't even know it's there.My question: How do I get those dynamically generated elements to register in my DOM so they can be called by a jQuery click event?I realize that I can just do an inline javascript call to my function and that works fine(ish). The problem is, however, I want specific information about the particular span that I click, and if I call it inline, it doesn't send $(this) to my function... it recognizes $(this) as $(window), not as $(span that I clicked)

The above correctly sets the text of the span to blah in all browsers except IE. The only way I've gotten it to work in IE is...
$('<span>' + myText + '</span>')
Not the worst hack, but all the extra typing is adding up.

the color of the text of a link. For example, when user clicks Link1,
text Link1 will become red color, but Link2 and Link3 unchange. Here's

JQuery :: Wrapping Text With A Span In An Unordered Lists?
Aug 26, 2009I've got an unordered lists. I need to make the numbers larger (ordered lists numbers) and keep the text in the list at the same size. So what I was assuming I need to do is make the <li> font-size larger (the size I want the unordered list number to be), then wrap the text with a <span> and make the <span> smaller. I'm using a CMS and since the client will be modifying the text in the CMS, I can't exactly tell them to put <span> text, blah, blah</span> in the unordered lists as they won't figure that out. So how would I write the jQuery to wrap the text in the unordered lists with a span? Currently the output is like so:

Attach Event/function To Links Within Span Tag
Jan 20, 2006I need to cancel the link and execute a function onclick of all the
links within the span tag which has a class of "container" assigned.
There will be only one span tag with this class applied.
I know you can get a specific tag using:
document.getElementsByTagName('span')[0], but I am unsure how to get
the one with the class="container". I know there is a getAttribute
method, just need a pointer or two to put it all together. Once I know
how to access the specific links I want do the equivelant of <a
href="hello.do?contain=yes" onclick="someFunction(this);return
false">Hello</a>. I am thinking I can add a global function or

Adding Event Listener To HTML Span Tag?
Aug 18, 2010I'm not new to JS, or the web and it's various other technologies, but I ran into a problem. I'm trying to add an event handler for a click on all HTML span tags. Trouble is, getElementByTags() doesn't work and neither does getElementByTagNames(). Strangely, adding an id to the span tags and getting their id's do trigger the handler.

Apr 11, 2011I've done this so many times before but I can't seem to get it working!! All I'm trying to do is in the JavaScript at the top change a span tag to whatever the current window location is but it doesn't work!

function.
I have ASP code that displays form variables for x number of users.
Depending on the radio button they click, I highlite some text in red
over another form variable to show that it's mandatory. I use a <span>
tag for the text and a Javascript function to change the text color of
that user's mandatory field.
My Javascript call passes (i) to show which user I'm talking about but
the problem is I don't know how to change that user's text color.
Here's my function

As you see, I'm not using the parameter "num" so it only works for the

Change SPAN Visibility With SELECT OPTION?
Jan 1, 2010I know this will have been covered but search isn't working for me at the moment. Easy one for people who know JS anyway, I'm sure: I have a SELECT box that precedes a text input, however, when a particular option is selected (the value of which is "BETWEEN") I need a hidden SPAN to become visible. It is hidden as default with "visibility:hidden;" so I need to just change it to "visibility:visible;" if memory serves. Anyway, likewise, if it is already visible, I need it to be both hidden and have the input in that span have an empty value. Any tips? I need to apply this to many rows in a table, so a function that I can call with the span and input IDs would be best I reckon.

May 12, 2010I'm working on a project with span's and event handlers.Basically what I need to do is be able to get the text from within a span when the user mouses over.I know how to set up the event handlers, that's all working fine, my issue is the actual extraction of the text. I've tried using .nodeValue and .TEXT_NODE but these keep coming back null.So is there a way to do something like: var text = document.etElementById ("example"). nodeText;and get a string of text?
