I'm trying to access a value from an input form. I know this works without the onkeyup event but with it it says the that document.formname.elementid.value is undefined! Its extremely frustrating. As the user types into the input, I am using AJAX to generate some more options which works but I need to be able to access the input type=text value.

I have a need to select all table rows in the outer table of a cascading table structure, that is a table with contained tables. I tried to use the "Context" section of jQuery, but the table rows of the sub tables are being selected as well.

I've been trying some stuff with jQuery, especially zebra striping table rows. All the methods out there use a "table tr:odd" selector or similar to that.
I would like to select every 3rd row (1,4,7,10,...).

If you click on the second row you'll notice that the text doesn't change, but clicking on the first row changes that row's text. I'm trying to make it so when you click the Edit Class link the text in that row gets changed, but as my selector is now it always selects the first table row - not the row clicked on. I know my selector isn't quite right anyway (".parent().parent().child()"), I'm sure getting that fixed will get my row-clicking issue fixed as well.

how best to tackle building a voting page with Jquery. The basic (rude) layout is here...
[URL]
Basically my actions are...
1. Votingdisableduntil user hasentereda jquery verifiable email address, this also use ajax to check if there is an existing vote with the email address in the mysql table; if there is it does not allow further and shows a message.
2. When email address entered then user can click on one "best" and one "worst" image, when clicked on others in section change opacity with css.
3. When clicked on a message appears "thanks for your vote" above the section and it makes an ajax call to a PHP file that registers the vote.
how to select one image and change the state of others in that section, then I'll move onto learning about Ajax.

I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change
<table>
<tr>
<td>
<input type="hidden" name="on1" value="Size" maxlength="200">Size</td>
[code].....
I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I have a series of TEXT inputs each with a corresponding SELECT next to it. I don't know the actual ID of these controls because .net assigns them, but I can use a wildcard.
When the focus leaves one of the Text inputs, I want to display the corresponding Select (which is previously hidden). My ready function looks like this:

Just playing about really, am trying to add the selected table row values to text area. Tried using childNodes but I guess it doesn't work for table rows (just comes out as '[object] - undefined'). Any better methods? - I don't really want an overly complicated solution, afterall it's just testing to get me back into JavaScript again!
<tr class="a" onclick="this.style.backgroundColor='#3D80DF' this.style.color='#FFF' document.getElementById('selected_songs').value = document.getElementById('selected_songs').value + this.childNodes[2] + ' - ' + this.childNodes[3] + '
'">
<td>1</td>
<td>Slit Wrist Theory</td>
<td>36 Crazyfists</td>
</tr>

I've been trying to select the rows of a table inside a specific div, but I'm having a tough time making it work.
Code:
function add_row_hover(elementID) {
var contentArea = document.getElementById(elementID);
var rows = contentArea.getElementByTagName('tr');
[code].....
I figure I can target a specific div, then add specific information to any table row inside of it. This doesn't seem to work though.

You can't select the 'text' part of an 'a' element with css, e.g. in the statement <a>some text </a> you can't use a css attribute selector a[text = "some text"]{} to style the 'a' element. You can select all named attributes such as HREF, TITLE, etc. Does jquery's .attrib map strictly to the css usage or is there some way I can match on that part of an 'a' element?
I need this because a menu list I'm working with doesn't by default require a TITLE element so I can't assume I can match on this attribute.

I want users to specify external sites, a) include them, and let b) users annotate certain paragraphs of text.
a)
As this sites are external (not on the same domain) I cannot use iframes since I cannot select text then, as I understood, right? So I need to create a proxy page which integrates them in the local domain. If this works, I guess the problem are relative urls - does anyone know a good way to correct these? Furthermore, do I need an iframe, or is there another way?
b)
I would like users to be able to select text paragraphs and add a description. Ideally I would get XPath for the selection. Is there a tool/plugin to do this? Like select some text and get the XPath for it?

As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

I think I can make a good interesting list of postings under this subject header, 'All browsers are cool but IE.'
Anyway, the following code will show a table with an input box labeled, 'name', on all browsers (Gecko, KHTML, Opera) except IE. Is there anybody ever hit on this issue before?

I have taken a class on PHP and started making some math homework and drills for the tutoring I do. I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLets say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

It needs to allow the user to highlight some text within a paragraph. If the correct text (with an error) is selected it should provide feedback that the user has correctly selected this text.
So what I need to do is
1. Get the text selection
2. Compare this text selection to a predefined answer
3. Provide feedback to the user e.g. they are correct if text selection = predefined answer, and incorrect if text selection != predefined answer
