Oct 17, 2011I have an input (type="text") with some default text telling the user to enter something in the box. The input tag includes an onmousedown event which runs javascript function to clear the default text so the user can start entering their own text.This setup behaves in two possible ways, one is good and one is bad:
Good: If the user clicks inside the text box, but after the default text, the text gets cleared and the cursor shows up at the beginning of the text box.
Bad: If the user clicks inside the text box, but directly on the default text, the text gets cleared, but the cursor is not displayed and the text box does not have the focus. In order to start typing, the user must click on the text box again.
So my question is: If the cursor is inside a string of text which gets cleared, is there a way to reinstate the cursor and the text box focus?
Add A Text Input To Selected Options?
Jan 16, 2009I'm trying to make a template generator. I want the visitor to select a background (options: none, color, image). If 'color' or 'image' are selected, I need the appropriate text input field to be displayed.
I've found code to do this which I was able to understand and install. I've also found code that was well beyond my current understanding and that I couldn't get to work to save my life.
The problem is that the code snipped I found and installed is designed to work with a single dropdown, and it's beyond me to figure out how to turn it into a function that could be applied on the page multiple times. I have no idea if it is possible with this piece of script, but that is what I need to have whatever script I use do on the page.

Jul 16, 2011I have a problem created by my complete [rookie] status – only second time venturing into jQuery. I created a simple shopping cart using php and the PayPal buttons (1: buy now, 2: add to cart). The php back end does it great, it generates the table and the buttons and everything works just like it’s supposed to; Except, I forgot to add sizes. So I found out what I need to add, and I realize that the way the buttons work, I will have two different text boxes for size. Not very visually appealing, and since I’m not submitting this to the server before it goes to PayPal to pay, I cannot modify it with php the way I normally would. jQuery / javascript are my only hope of making this work. What I want to do:Have a single textbox where [size] is entered by the user.
Copy the value from the [correct] text box to the Value=”” section of the now hidden field in the PayPal form That way, no matter whether they [BUY NOW] or [ADD to CART] the right size is submitted to the PayPal shopping cart. This is the actual PayPal code that I’m trying to change

I got this far, and then decided to find how to insert the "enteredVALUE" into the right place in the input text field (what I called output) and I've not been able to figure out how to stuff it in there.

I have two fields; zip and city, I validate zip with remote and it checks against a list if the zip is valid, but i want it too:
Check if the zip is valid
Return true if it is valid and return the city of the zip and paste it in the city-input...
Of course I have a database/array/list with all zip and city's.

May 21, 2007I need to write a javascript function (which will be called on clicking a button) to return the currently selected item from a drop- down list whose rendered html is below.

Select Boxes Switched :: The Color Option Would Return To The 'selected' Position?
Mar 3, 2010Here's what I'm trying to do is...If you select a color, then select a shape, the color option would return to the 'selected' position.If you select a shape, then select a size, the shape option would return to the 'selected' position and so on. The end result is I would like to have only one item selected from one of the select boxes, with the other two select boxes returned to the selected position.The code is presented here.

JQuery :: Contains('text') Return Is Always True?
Feb 12, 2011I have a question concerning :contains(). I use it in the following manner:

itemProps is DOM Element. It has a a div inside it which class is always something else however that div has either "Built From" or "Builds Into" as a text. Inside itemProps there is no other div with those words. I want to know which of those texts the div within itemProps contains. However this bit of code seems to always return true. Some goes for when I use the text "Builds Into". Even when the text is not in the div.
JQuery :: 'input:text' Selector Not Finding Input Element With No Type Attribute?
Mar 16, 2011As recently as 1.4.3 $('input:text') would find input elements with no type attribute, but after upgrading to 1.5.1 that is no longer the case.
Is this a bug or an intended refactor to be more standards compliant?
FYI - this is the selector I now have to use: $('input:text,input:not([type])')

Jan 19, 2006I have a bunch of input fields, each which will have a numerical value. There can be any number of input fields in the form, and that number will vary depending on what the user has selected prior in the application.
So basically I created a loop that goes though all of the INPUT fields within the form. How can I have it find the value of each field and add them all together, then return to me the total? It'll need to be made into a variable, but a simple alert with the total value will give me enough to work with.

I have asked my kids for feedback and they are telling me that it is inconvenient to hit tab to go to the next text box (They have small arms/fingers..)I then thought of a brilliant ideaLet�s say it was 12 divided by 3. If they wrote a 4 in the input area, the JavaScript would recognize the correct answer and automatically move to the next box. However, if they wrote a 3 in the box, the JavaScript wouldn't move over.This kills two birds with one stone. The inconvenience of hitting tab or clicking on the next box disappears, and they are forced to put in the correct answer.Ironically, I have learned PHP and skipped over JavaScript. Which code would I use to do this?

Jul 23, 2010I'm developing am income tax calculator, and everything is going swell. Currently the user can type in their adjusted gross income (AGI), hit submit, and learn the amount of income tax they would pay, their tax rate, and their income after tax.
I've played around with the events to get the submit button to work in FF, IE, Chrome and Safari -- and I've gotten the enter button to work before with some stock code, but here's the catch: when the user presses enter, i want the focus to leave the input box. I don't care where it goes (submit button, I suppose?) but i need it to leave the input field so the onfocus="clearText(this);" event can fire when they return to type in a new income.
