JQuery :: Ready Function - When The Page Is First Loaded - It Triggers The Alert
May 1, 2009
This page: [url] is linked to 1.js which has this code:
When the page is first loaded, it triggers the alert. It doesn't seem like it would because it is in the livequery function. Why does it do that?

I need to display a simple alert message box using javascript and I have no problem with that. what I am concerned about is the stylesheets that I use. What would happen is as I got to a certain page, the alert box comes up BUT the page looks plain, don't have any css on the page. then when I press ok on the alert box, then the css loads up. and that does not look really good. I tried to contain the method that triggers the alert to a function called by the window.onload, but still acts the same. I thought that should do the trick but no. I was wondering what can I do to get the page loaded before, calling the alert method. OR show the message first before showing anything on the screen.

Any way to wait until it is fully loaded
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#featured > ul").tabs({fx:{opacity: "toggle"}}).tabs("rotate", 4000, true);
});
</script>

I am sure this question has been raised and answered before, but I can't seem to find an answer that works for me. I hope I will get an exact response here. Here's my issue - I have my index.html that has its own $(document).ready method and everything pretty much works within it. I am trying to dynamically load a page to replace part of index.html (let' say the #inner_content ID) -

I have a couple of links on my page (inside a <div id="theme-selector">) which allow you to change the CSS stylesheets:
$('#theme-selector a').click(function(){
var csslink = $(this).attr('href');
$('head link').remove();[code]...
Now, after I've changed the style on the page, I want to get the new background color, using the following code (which I put after the
$('head').append call):
var bgcolor = $('body').css('background-color');
alert(bgcolor);
The problem is, I think, that it takes some time for the browser to download the new stylesheet and I sometimes get the old background color in my alert message. Is there some event I can bind that will only alert me after all the stylesheets are loaded on the page? At the moment, all I can think of is using a setTimeout(function(), 5000); which isn't great, because what if it takes longer/shorter to load all the CSS on the page.

I originally thought I should always include js which shouldn't be parsed until the html had been written using the following:
$(document).ready(function () {
//My code
});
I later read that I shouldn't do this (JQuery Cookbook, or something similar) but instead should just include my JS at the very end of the page but before the body close tag.

I was wondering if there is something like document.ready; to trigger after all the DOM+Js is loaded. document.ready is triggered when the DOM is ready, but the js might be still loading, i would like to trigger an event only after DOM along with all the JS is loaded.

I'm using jQuery but it doesn't work and I don't know why? Here is my code:
<head>
<script src="prototype.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="jquery.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
<script src="jquery.dataTables.js" type="text/javascript" ></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery.noConflict();
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
alert('document ready');
CreateTable();
});
function CreateTable(){
var oTable = jQuery('#example').dataTable({ .....
I got my .js's in the same directory as my jspx file, and the alert ('document ready') is never shown.

It works fine in all browsers except ie(6,7,8) Internet Explorer can not open website. Operation Aborted. I understand it is caused by the jquery autocomplete function loading before the page / DOM has fully loaded. I tried adding Defer="true" to the script however this doesn't seem to work.

I have developed a FF extension that loads a few JavaScript files (one of which is jQuery) and attaches them to any given page being viewed by the user. The loading of the js files can ether happen during or after the web page had been loaded into the browser. Obviously, once the js files get loaded, I want to start doing some stuff and I wanted to use the jQuery.ready method to determine when the js code can start performing whatever needs to be done. However, it does not seem to get fired if the extension only starts loading the js files after the web page has already been fully loaded. Generally, there does not seem to be a method in FF that tells me if the web page is loaded or not but rather, only an event that can get fired upon page load.

I have a page that I click an edit button. Upon clicking the edit button, another page is loaded via ajax, and displayed inside a <div> tag. During the new page that is loaded, I am pulling some field's properties to see if they are filled in, and if they are, then make them a certain color. Currently, on slower internet connections, this PageLoad function will not work because the pageload function is ran before the page is actually loaded.
So, I am looking for a solution to check to see if the page is loaded, completely, then I want to run the PageLoad function. Here is the function from the click of the button that says "edit". This calls the page to display:

I'm using the Google AJAX APIs, but some reason google.load works when run through normal javascript, but if I call the method from my jquery ready function it doesn't work. Code and output is below
page.html
<script type="text/javascript">
loadGoogleStuff();
function loaded() {
console.debug("in loaded function");
}
[Code]...
window.loadFirebugConsole is not a function If I comment out line 3 in code.js, the console debug runs okay, so the ready function is running okay. Even though there's a reference to Firebug, the same error occurs in Safari too. Nothing on the page loads.

I have a scripts which filters a list of data based on a users selection from dropdowns in a form. The script updates a counter while the user is making the selections and also colates a url string which I then use to query a php db when the user clicks view results.
I also have a reset button in the form so the user can quickly go back to the start. When this is clicked it does reset all the dropdowns and inputs to their defualt values but it doesn't reset my js functions back to their initial states.
Can anyone tell me how I can do this? Is there a js reset function I can use?

I have 2 javascript files: 1 containing generic functions for my site used sitewide and another for a particular web page containing just the javascript for that page. The page is also calling the jQuery javascript file.
What I want to do is have a javascript function in my main javascript file which uses features of jQuery such as show, hide etc. and then I want to call this javascript function from the other page specific javascript file.
[Code]...
This does not work and so was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to how to achieve this or something similar.

I've built a complex web application that loads content into the main page using .load of php pages. Some of those pages are using datepicker and timepicker. I have these working ok to a point, but there is some troubling behaviour. e.g. sometimes when clicking a date field, the calendar doesn't appear. The timepicker seems to work ok most of the time. Clicking around like a loon on various pages sometimes makes the field work with dates, but other times not.
Sometimes I see the calendar display stays on the page even when new content is loaded. Summary is that the datepicker works perfectly, but then it stops working, then starts again.. Now I have a mix of calls to google and local source code .js and ui and tools which is perhaps complicating things. I'm not sure if this is a problem with coding, or the doc ready function being used in 'child' pages.

I am getting $document.ready(function() not defined in the firebug console. I have seen that in most cases this is caused when the jQuery core is missing or the path is invalid. I do not believe this is the problem in my case becuase firebug shows the code as being loaded successfully and it is readable.
I have the following scripts in my head;
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.validate.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery.validator.addMethod(

function(value, element) {
if (element.value == "none") {
return false;

$(function () {
var modifyme = 0;

I cant change the code setting the ready function, as I am writing only a greasemonkey userscript. I already tried using the .data("events") method, but it never listed the "ready" event. Any function so I can modify the variable!
