JQuery :: Prevent User From Adding More Characters Into A Text?
Jul 2, 2009
is there a way to prevent user from adding more characters into a text input based on a validation rule(eg. you entered more than n words, you can't enter more, but you can delete or edit)? I think I'll have to programmatically delete the extra letter(s) that user just input somehow if the addition causes a violation of the rule, is this the best way?
I have a text area, I want that user's should not be able to enter a charaters in it. I want them to enter only numbers.I have written the code below to do this but it is not working as I think I am not calling the function right way.I am open to new suggestions as well, if I can show some alert to user if they enter character rather than no.
I'm desinging a graphical interface and I frequently take advantage of the double click event. Unfortunately in most browsers double clicking also involves selecting and I would like to avoid that since whatever is selected has dark blue background and white letters what spoils the whole visual effect.... Any way I can block it por avoid it?
I am using jQuery and blockUI to prevent the user from submitting a form twice by double clicking on the interface: This is in my global js file and is called on every pages
i m using jquery datepicker .it's works fine in all other browser except IE the only problem with IE is that the when i m using datepicker it wont fire my text change events IE.works fine in all other browse . if i remove plugin then IE fires text change .so the only problem with datepicker + IE my page is .aspx and i m using .net
Im using a vb script that will show the latest x forum threads on forumhome but i would like to be able to restrict how many characters it out puts so after say 150 chars then the 3 dots would appear.ie. This would be my forum thread ti ...Heres the script im using
<if condition="$vbulletin->options['externaljs']"> <!-- show latest active threads --> <table class="tborder" cellpadding="$stylevar[cellpadding]" cellspacing="$stylevar[cellspacing]" border="0"
I own a game site and some users cheat by changing the browser URL. For example :
The URL for starting a game mission is this : ww.somesite.com/somethingaspx?htxm=18
And if they change the number to 87 they go to the end of he mission WITHOUT actually completing it.
They ONLY way to deal with this is by preventing users from changing the URL manually. Is there a way to do it? Like, if someone tries to change that number in the URL he gets a message and browser window closed(or something that will prevent him from going to that page)
Of course, the solution must not conflict with the normal navigation(which is the actual mission) which means the user should be able to navigate to different pages but NOT change the URL manually.
function testfield() { var un = document.getElementById("dir").value; if (!/^(/ftp/nas)/i.test(un)) { alert ("Invalid starting characters - must be /ftp/nas"); return false; [Code]...
I have a code like above which doesn't allow the user to proceed with out starting the field with a "/ftp/nas" which should be the starting of a path. Is there any way to make it disabled and the user only can enter the rest of the path. for eg: user1 has directory path like /ftp/nas/user1/help
so when this user enters his path, on the field "/ftp/nas" should always be available and the user has to only enter the rest of the path. and the user is allowed to enter only / (// is not allowed) and [A-Za-z] in the field. this is just to secure the application from typing mistakes.
i have a form being filled. i don't want the user to be able to submit twice. how can i either prevent the user from going back or disable the submit button?
i am currently disabling the submit button but when the user clicks back(from the next page) it asks whether it should resend data. when the data is resent it loads the original version of the page(without submit disabled).
I'm trying to write a function that takes a word and adds a space between each letter e.g space becomes s p a c e. I have written below but when I call the function it says the argument is not defined.
Code: function insertSpaces(string){ var currentCharacter; var resultString; resultString = '' //a line to loop through each charcther in the string agument for (var position = 0; position < string.length; position = position + 1){ // set current characther as the first charcter in the string and add a space currentCharacter = (string.charAt(position) + ' ') //store the currentcharcter and add followng characthers resultString = currentCharacter + resultString } return resultString }

I have content that loads into a div and in every browser except IE it renders fine. In the wonderful IE it comes in jagged...sometimes it "snaps" after and looks normal but for the most part its all jagged. The page is a white bg with text rendering into of it. How can I fix this so it looks normal? </SPAN></FONT></DIV>
please i want to know if there is a possibility to force the user to type English characters coz i made all my web site in arabic and germany languages i want to force user to type the username and password in English characters
I made a form with text inputs but notice you can use special symbols. I want to only allo charaters like letters and numbers that is it.Is there any jquery function that cna do such a thing... if not how do you implement something that will filter it.
I am using a calendar control based on the one at Brainjar.com. I have made the text field into which the date is inserted readonly. The problem with this is that if a user attempts to change the date manually by deleting part of the highlighted text, the browser goes back one page.
I want to force the user to use the calendar control and not input text directly into the textfield- readonly is not enough as the text can still be highlighted and then causes problems if the user attempts to delete.
I am trying to count the characters in a text area in a form for sending sms from web to phone. Bulk sms standard is: maximum sms pages are 7 i.e 1071 characters; page 1 contains 160 characters, page 2 contains 146 characters and the rest 5 pages contains 153 characters.
Here is a javascript function I wrote but it's not working
function countPage(){ var clPg1 = 160; //character limit for page 1 var clPg2 = 146; //character limit for page 2 var clOtherPg = 153; //character limit for other pages
