View 2 RepliesIs there any way in Javascript to find the position of an element relative to the screen rather than the browser viewport? I can't find anything.
Is this possible? The reason I ask is I wish the values to be used in Java, which needs coordinates relative to the screen.
Is it possible to do this? Say I want to find out where on the screen a specific div is, and i want to know the values of the left and top properties. Can i find this out? If so, how?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have following problem: I get screen coordinates something (which might not be a mouse) and have to convert them relative to an element on a page.
Inside a page it's simple: use the offsets to the parent elements.
On the other side the start are the window.screenX and window.screenY coordinates.
The only problem now is how to find out the offset from the page to the window, i.e. the size of the toolbars and stuff? What might be interesting are the mozInnerScreenX/Y attributes of an window. But these are only present in firefox, obviously, which is not sufficient.
A hack would be a calibration page which uses a mouse event to calculate the missing offset using evt.pageX/Y and evt.screenX/Y. But this might not work, since a mouse might not be present.
Is it possible to make the mouse be at a given position on the screen using javascript for example i am writing a element resize script and i would like to have it so when u click on the resize button the cursor moves to the bottom right corner of the element for the starting position

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a setup where clicking on one of several spots on the screen shows one of the two forms that are hidden by default. I was wondering if there's a way to scroll the screen so this element is visible. Otherwise I can open below the fold and people will not know that something happened. The elements that I click on are not hyperlinks, jut regular divs. I was wondering if there's some method I overlooked that lets me take the page to a specific element.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI need to find out how to center an element on a form that scrolls. I have code (below) that displays a dialog, but I can't figure out how to make sure the dialog is centered on the page when the dialog displays as the user scrolls down the page. The dialog is displayed from a click on a href tag. I thought I could get the x,y coordinates where the href was click, but can't figure out how to center since the href can be at either the upper or low end of the page when it shown.

var yCoord;

<table id="tbl">
<tr><td>Please</td></tr>
<tr><td>help</td></tr>
<tr><td>me</td></tr>
[Code].....
Now if someone clicks on the row with content "help" (2nd), I want to catch the click with jquery .click() and know within the jquery code that the user clicked on the 2nd <tr> element within table#tbl.
If someone clicks on the <tr> with content "this", my jquery code has to return 5, because its the 5th row.
I know how to get position left - var posLeft = parseInt($('.class').position().left);
But the class I am using has the style display:none; Is there a way around this?
Why doesn't this work?
var posLeft = parseInt($('.class').css('left').replace("px", ""));

View 2 Replies View Relatedi would like to know the absolute position of an element (e.g. <LI>) in the browser. i nned to know it in order to place juste beside another element (e.g. submenu).
for example: i have a <li> tag which is at 400px from my browser left border (because it is inside a div which is screen centered). this <li> has a width of 180 px so if i want to know the most left position for my submenu, i should get 400 + 180 = 580 px (from the browser left border).
i tried offset but without success. in fact it returns me 0.
How would I start to go about this? I'd like an <h3> to display and slide in whenever the user scrolls to a certain position on the page. For example, once a certain content div is 50% displayed in the viewport, I'd like the animation to fire.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you go on my test site: [URL]... You will see a navigation menu at the top, with an animated ball. Every time you click on one of the links in the navigation menu, you will notice that after a new page is loaded there is a sudden jump from the balls original position to it's new position. (Not that obvious in Firefox but very obvious in IE and Safari) My question is how can I resolve this.
I assumed that wrapping the code in the $(document).ready function would elimate this issue as everything inside it will load before the page contents are loaded.

Any idea on how to get the coordinates/position of a div element? For example I want to get the coordinates of a particular poll which is placed on my right sidebar.
I tried this, but will not work:
document.getElementById('test').style.left
Must I set the position to relative for the element test?
The snippet below is related to some code that I'm developing that will eventually cause a scrolling DIV (overflow-y:scroll) to scroll to bring a specified element into view. I actually developed the code about a year ago. The code worked under IE6, but does not appear to work under IE7. Is offsetTop still a valid means of getting the position of an element?

Is there a jQuery function that can cause an element to slide down as in fly from an edge of a screen to the location that it is supposed to be at? The slideDown();function causes an element to start at the top of the container the element it is applied to and then roll down. I guess what I am looking for is something that would on an event slide from an edge of a screen or browser window to where it is supposed to go? Are there any functions or transitions like that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedHere's something I'm working on: for a click on a given element, I want to be able capture the x/y coordinates of the mouse -- that is, the mouse coordinates relative to the top left corner of said
element.
So far, here's what I've got:
I'm trying to get the position of a table on a page..
<table id="tab">
by using :
var x = getAbsX(document.getElementById("tab"))
var y = getAbsX(document.getElementById("tab"))
which calls:
function getAbsX(elt) { return (elt.x) ? elt.x : getAbsPos(elt,"Left"); }
function getAbsY(elt) { return (elt.y) ? elt.y : getAbsPos(elt,"Top"); }
function getAbsPos(elt,which) {
iPos = 0;
while (elt != null) {
iPos += elt["offset" + which];
elt = elt.offsetParent;
}
return iPos;
}
but the thing keeps giving me 0's for both x and y in IE but works in
Firefox. Can anyone help?
So I have created a simple calendar [URL] and I have a bunch of "More Info" buttons I made from cells. In a table cell to the right are a bunch of hidden DIV's that all appear when you rollover a "More Info" button, obviously giving more details about the calendar date/event.
My problem is that I have to give an exact "top" css position to every one of these hidden div's every single time I add a new event to the calendar. I want to dynamically tell each hidden div to match the "top" css position to match the top position of each "More Info" button. How do I do that?
