Is there any way in Javascript to find the position of an element relative to the screen rather than the browser viewport? I can't find anything.
Is this possible? The reason I ask is I wish the values to be used in Java, which needs coordinates relative to the screen.

I have following problem: I get screen coordinates something (which might not be a mouse) and have to convert them relative to an element on a page.
Inside a page it's simple: use the offsets to the parent elements.
On the other side the start are the window.screenX and window.screenY coordinates.
The only problem now is how to find out the offset from the page to the window, i.e. the size of the toolbars and stuff? What might be interesting are the mozInnerScreenX/Y attributes of an window. But these are only present in firefox, obviously, which is not sufficient.
A hack would be a calibration page which uses a mouse event to calculate the missing offset using evt.pageX/Y and evt.screenX/Y. But this might not work, since a mouse might not be present.

I need to change the position for a group as reaction for a mouse movement so I wrote this:
this.dragged.attr('transform').baseVal.getItem(0).setTranslate(x, y)
But this does not integrate well with the animation
this.dragged.animate({svgTransform:'translate('+(-x)+' '+(-y)+')'},delay)

I have this table on my html page:
<table id="t_menu_options" width="125" border="1" cellspacing="0" bordercolor="#F9F9F9">
<tr><td colspan="2"><font size="-2" face="Verdana"><strong>Options...</strong></font></td>
</tr><tr><td width="15%">></td>
<span id="edit"><td><font size="-2" face="Verdana"><span id="et">Edit</span></font></td></span>
</tr><tr><td width="15%">></td>
<span id="delete"><td><font size="-2" face="Verdana"><span id="dt">Delete</span></font></td></span>
</tr></table>
I start the page by hiding the above html by using
$('#t_menu_options').hide();
And that works.
Now upon some user mouseclick event, I want to show the html and move it to a position where the user clicked:
function showTaskOptionsMenu(e) {
alert(e.pageX+" "+e.pageY);
$('#t_menu_options').css({'left':e.pageX+'px','top':e.pageY+'px'}).show();
}
The alert command works as expected. however, the html is simply showed at the bottom of the page and is not moved to the desired location.

I have been using jquery (which is fantastic) for over a year now, but only basic little bits of code. Now I want to try something a little bigger but I can't get it to work. The problem is, I have a fixed background with position to the left which when scrolling horizontally it sits flush against the left, I want it so when you get to the end of the document it smoothly carries on to the right and then sits flush against the right. And when you scroll back towards the start it bounces back to where it was before. The code I've tried so far which works, but whenever I try 'click' instead of 'hover' nothing works? Also it just jumps to the other side, I'm not sure how to make it scroll to the other side smoothly.
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#Linkintro').hover(function(){
$('#wrapper').css('background-position', newValue);
}, function(){
$('#wrapper').css('background-position', 'right');
});});

I have a slideshow that I built, and all is good. However, I want to arbitrarily change a slide once the slideshow is underway, and I don't see a mechanism to do that.
I have tried to write two simple functions to achieve this:
function exposeReplaceSlide(opts, els) {
$.fn.cycle.replaceSlide = function (newSlide, location) {
realReplaceSlide ( opts, els, newSlide, location);
[Code].....
but this doesn't seem to do the trick...it can locate the slide position, but the insert of the slide doesn't work...I get a blank slide in place of the html I want to insert.

I'm very new to Jquery but have finally worked out how to change the background-image (a sprite) of my #contentContainer when hovering over a separate 'trigger' image. However, for the life of me I cannot work out how to apply a fade effect to the transition. Basically, instead of the current abrupt background image transition I would like it to fade in smoothly on mouseover and mouseout.

I have a perl script that i use to render a html page. In that page i call out a stylesheet. If the user has a 800x600 display the fonts are really too big.
Since screen resolution is a function of the client and I have this javascript ot detect the srecc size:
function ck_res()
{
if ( (screen.width != 1024) && (screen.height != 768) )
{
alert(" This graphic is best viewed at 1024 x 768 ! ");
// use a different stylesheet
}
}
How would I go about changing the style sheet that is being called on the page?

is it possible to display a different website according to the browser's screen resolution? For example, is it possible that in the body onload you put a code, and then you have all three different websites listed in the file, and the code analyzes the screen resolution, then chooses the appropriate website?In my situation, I can't have a screen which pops up and asks for the resolution - it just wouldn't work. So, is it possible?

I have this code that displays all vertical buttons for sharing my content however I want to display horizontal buttons if the user is using a smaller window size. It will have a different div and some of the code wil be changed i.e. "data-count="horizontal".
It would be awesome to also do this via my external JS file so it is not inline.
But that is not essential.
Also using fluid width CSS is not an option due to my having a sidebar with ads that can't be changed in size.
Code:
<div id="sharepost"><div class="sharer"><a href="http://twitter.com/share" class="twitter-share-button" data-url="<?php the_permalink(); ?>" data-text="<?php the_title(); ?>" data-count="vertical" data-via="code_love" data-related="love:code">Tweet</a><script type="text/javascript"

I have a calendar inside a div on my webpage which will show /hide when
user click a button. but the button is almost at the bottom of my
webpage, I am using position :absolute for the div so everytime when
the div shows, it will "drop down" cause the vertical scroll bar
appears on web browser and the user have to scroll down to see the
whole calendar. I was trying to change the div position (e.g if it is
near the bottom of webbrowser then "drop-up") when the div is showing.
My question is How can I know its position is near the bottom of web browser? (how can
I know the height of the browser) How can I change the position of this div?
