I know 800x600 screens occupy a shrinking part of Web surfers, but I want to accommodate them by offering an alternate style sheet where my site pages don't break when someone from this smaller group visits. Yes, there are examples of how to do this on the Web, but I have one more requirement and don't know how to code it. Not only do my pages break on 800x600, they also break if the browser widow is sized smaller on a 1024x768 screen. (I'm studying css that will dynamically respond to this but I'm not there yet.) Do I just need an appropriate if/or statement to deliver different style sheets? Is there even a JS that detects browser window changes?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've recently start using Flexigrid (old JQuery grid plugin), and, as you may know, one of the few issue this really good grid plugin got is the lack of liquid layout option. My personal idea to solve the problem is to set the "width" parameter depending on $(window).width. Here is the problem (and here's why i post this question in "General use" and not in "Plugin").
The starting, and working, code is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#flex1").flexigrid
(
{

This work fine for me, but I supose it could be done way much elegant... maybe somethin without "IF" that could emulate the "%", like var percentage = $(#div.id).width()*0.XX with the 0.XX picked from an array of percentage, one for each column. Probably I should set up a function... ahhhh, as you may easily see I'm a total beginner with JQuery (and JS in general...)
I need a code that when a button or image is clicked then a div's width and height are changed.
Ive managed to get a few codes that does this, but the real problem is that, the contents of the div is an embedded flash file and i thought that by setting the flash width and height to 100% then the flash would fit to the new size of the div, but it just didnt work.
I need a code that when a button is clicked then the div's and the flash's width and height are changed.
please have a look at the temp website latinunit net / temp / , you will understand where im coming from.
on the right hand side i have a flash chat in a div , div is controled by a script that allows it to follow the scrollers up and down.
My goal is to add a little button in the same div that says expand or maximise so when clicked the the div expands aswell as the flash file.
I recently got very interested in jQuery and found my way into it but I'm now facing this problem where I can't animate the position of a background image in IE. I've tested it in Google Chrome, FireFox, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer. It works in the first 4 browsers but not in IE and that is a pretty big problem since a lot of people are (still ) using IE, I think.
Here is the animation:
As I mentioned, it works in every major browser except for Internet Explorer.
How do I return a lists background-image's backgroundPosition?
I am trying to achieve a navigation menu whereby, when the li element is rolled over a grey square moves under the li element.
Here is what I have done so far:
So when the li element is rolled over I want to be able to identify said li backgroundPosition and use that value to move the ul's background image.
I realise that this could be done simply by giving each li element a different class name then giving it a mouseover function, but this is for a dynamic Wordpress nav bar so each li element does not have a unique class name.
I need help with an IE8 problem. I want to give as many facts as possible.

I have already banned less than IE8 from my site but have the following problem with IE8 only (works on Mac and Win in these"allowed" browsers:Safari 5+, Chrome, FF 3.5+ and Opera 10+):
I use the backgroundPosition setter / getter extensively in this animation-extensive site.
But it breaks in IE8.
I did hack this as the only way I could get IE8 to work in a frame animation algorithm, noting that I have to test for browser and version (ugh) and then use this getter:
The following is an example that appears to work but seems unstable to me: (note that "accordionState"references an object within a data store attached to the "page" element):
There are many other cases where I have get or setbackgroundPosition,especially in the 'over' and out' functions where I use hoverIntent.
As a great fan and user of jQuery, I am puzzled that this will not work in IE8. Note thatbackgroundColor does not work either, although I do use UI to do these sorts of things and it seems to work in IE.
Some issues with jquery animate. im trying to create a navigation menu that apon mouseover, the background image animates with a negative y value. apon mouseout, the div will animate the background position back to zero. Simple enough ay? thats what i thought. When i roll over the divs with the bg image, they do not animate, it appears like a simple background change. in other words, there is no tween or movement, just ...new position.

JQUERY
CSS
HTML
As i said, the animate property will not MOTION or TWEEn in the YAXIS, it will however as i tried animate in the XAXIS. got me stumped and at deadlock.
Having some trouble with this plugin. I've tried in both IE8 and FF3, but it doesn't seem to work. Basically the background position isn't moving...the function toArray(strg) is suppose to return the following....return [parseFloat(res[1],10),res[2],parseFloat(res[3],10),res[4]]; this is the line where I'm getting an error code.
The values res[2] and res[4] are coming back as NaN. I'm not sure what these values represent, or why they are Null.
I'm calling the backgroundPosition like this:
My css reads:
The first alert gives me 1267 while the second says 1280.
alert($(window).width());
$('.tab-left').css({top:250+'px'});
alert($(window).width());
I am making a website with a nice picture slide.The slide has arrows on the left and right and I want them toadjustto the size of the active image.Here is the link to the site:http://dergebauer.test6002.info/projekt.htm?id=029&from=matr&category=sonderloesungenIt works everywhere except in IE.I also tried to rebuild the error on a dummy site...but everything worked.

i am using the jquery superfish menu at[URL]. i cannot seem to modify the width of the menu items (or the <li>). how do i do this? i am using the superfish.css style sheet. i tried to modify the width by changing the values of a few classes (i.e. where it said 100% or had an em appended), but this did not .
View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to pass the width of a window to CSS properties. Specifically I would like the width and left-padding of a DIV to be the exact pixel width of the browser window. Ideally, if the user resizes the window, the CSS would update. What is the simplest way to do this?

I would like to set the height of certain #div elements on a page based on the height of the user's current window state. It should draw the elements based on the size of the window at onLoad, and also respond to the onResize event.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a site that I'm building at [URL] which use the jquery cycle plugin for a slideshow. I won't post the code here because it's all there with view source at the above address. It's a work in progress. The slideshow is full width (the images in it are actually 2000px wide but looks full width), and works fine apart from when the browser window is resized. This is most noticable when you start with a smaller browser window and then resize it to be bigger.
The slides stay the same width as when the page loaded - I need them to adapt to the new width. I need the slideshow to be centered at all widths, so I've put the images in as backgrounds to divs with center positioning on them. I've tried getting the window width on resize and then applying it to the slides using jQuery, but the original calculated size overrides it when the slide changes.
What are the variables I can use to find the width of a particular window? I have a moving ball thing on the page and want it to got the width of the current active window where the code is. I understand that there are different properties needed depending on the browser used.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a menu done in CSS. When you mouse over the menu i change the background position in order to display the 'hover' state. I'm using javascript to show/hide <div> when you click on a button to display proper content without reloading the page (Like a tab menu).
To display the menu in a 'hover' state when you have clicked, i use also javascript to move the background position so it stays on the hover state. But when i mouse over my other menu, they do not apply the CSS anymore.
Here is the JS i use on a 'onclick':
function menu()
{
document.getElementById('menu2').style.backgroundPosition = 'center 0'
document.getElementById('menu1').style.backgroundPosition = 'center -48px'
}
I guess it have something to do with the fact that i alter the CSS with the JS. But anyone know how to fix this without having to create my mouseover with JS and keep it in CSS?

I have a list of thumbnails generated by Wordpress. I've been trying to piece together a script that would change the ID of the parent element based on the image inside of it I can't seem to get anywhere, does anyone have a simple solution?
I need the id of the li to be "sm" or "smp" depending on the width of the image inside of it (landscape or portrait)
<li class="frame" id="sm">

How can I change the height and width of an element with Javascript? I have tried and so far I can only change either the width or height but not both, doing something like this…
Code:
<HTML>
<HEAD>
<script type = "text/javascript">
function changeSize(){document.getElementById('test').style.height = '200'}
[code]....
And this works fine but if I try to change both height and width it doesn’t work. Doing something like this doesn’t work
Code:
function changeSize(){document.getElementById('test').style.height = '200' width=’200’}
Is there any way to detect the width of the window in which a page is displayed? I know how to detect the screen width, but that only helps if the page is always maximized.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to customize this scrollbar so that it will fit all screen resolutions and I was wondering how I could do this by somehow customizing the JavaScript files created by Nathan Faubion or if I could do this using other JavaScript variables (var widthPercentage) to change the pixels to percentages?One of the pages on the website I'm using the JavaScript on

So I didn't know whether to put this in HTML & CSS or here. So I'm just going to put it here and the mods can move it if needed.So I had this script working for auto width of a DIV, then I added DOCTYPE to the top of my document, now it won't change the width ha ha. I have tried with all DOCTYPE's and same thing.The JS I am using is:
window.onload=function(){
document.getElementById("right").style.width= + screen.width - 193;
}
As I said this worked before I added DOCTYPE to the top of the HTML. But when I add any one of the DOCTYPES it stops working.
