JQuery :: Animating BackgroundPosition In IE
Jan 4, 2011
I recently got very interested in jQuery and found my way into it but I'm now facing this problem where I can't animate the position of a background image in IE. I've tested it in Google Chrome, FireFox, Safari, Opera and Internet Explorer. It works in the first 4 browsers but not in IE and that is a pretty big problem since a lot of people are (still ) using IE, I think.
Here is the animation:
As I mentioned, it works in every major browser except for Internet Explorer.

what I'm trying to do is, when a user hover overs an element, in this case, a li within a div, I want the background color to animate to a different color besides the background color of the body (in this case, black).
It works, but the behavior is erratic. For instance, yes, the color will change when I hover over the element but it when I'm within the div ul li, and hover over for instance the paragraph, the background color of the element will animate 2-3 times.
Actually when I move around any element within that UL the animation will flicker, how would I go about stopping that?
Also sometimes, not all the times, on pageLoad, the animation will fire.
Here's the code.
<%@ Page Language="VB" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeFile="Default.aspx.vb" Inherits="_Default" %
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

How do I return a lists background-image's backgroundPosition?
I am trying to achieve a navigation menu whereby, when the li element is rolled over a grey square moves under the li element.
Here is what I have done so far:
So when the li element is rolled over I want to be able to identify said li backgroundPosition and use that value to move the ul's background image.
I realise that this could be done simply by giving each li element a different class name then giving it a mouseover function, but this is for a dynamic Wordpress nav bar so each li element does not have a unique class name.

I need help with an IE8 problem. I want to give as many facts as possible.
Reference: [url]
I have already banned less than IE8 from my site but have the following problem with IE8 only (works on Mac and Win in these"allowed" browsers:Safari 5+, Chrome, FF 3.5+ and Opera 10+):
I use the backgroundPosition setter / getter extensively in this animation-extensive site.
But it breaks in IE8.
I did hack this as the only way I could get IE8 to work in a frame animation algorithm, noting that I have to test for browser and version (ugh) and then use this getter:
The following is an example that appears to work but seems unstable to me: (note that "accordionState"references an object within a data store attached to the "page" element):
There are many other cases where I have get or setbackgroundPosition,especially in the 'over' and out' functions where I use hoverIntent.
As a great fan and user of jQuery, I am puzzled that this will not work in IE8. Note thatbackgroundColor does not work either, although I do use UI to do these sorts of things and it seems to work in IE.

Some issues with jquery animate. im trying to create a navigation menu that apon mouseover, the background image animates with a negative y value. apon mouseout, the div will animate the background position back to zero. Simple enough ay? thats what i thought. When i roll over the divs with the bg image, they do not animate, it appears like a simple background change. in other words, there is no tween or movement, just ...new position.
INCLUDES
JQUERY
CSS
HTML
As i said, the animate property will not MOTION or TWEEn in the YAXIS, it will however as i tried animate in the XAXIS. got me stumped and at deadlock.

Having some trouble with this plugin. I've tried in both IE8 and FF3, but it doesn't seem to work. Basically the background position isn't moving...the function toArray(strg) is suppose to return the following....return [parseFloat(res[1],10),res[2],parseFloat(res[3],10),res[4]]; this is the line where I'm getting an error code.
The values res[2] and res[4] are coming back as NaN. I'm not sure what these values represent, or why they are Null.
I'm calling the backgroundPosition like this:
My css reads:

I have a menu done in CSS. When you mouse over the menu i change the background position in order to display the 'hover' state. I'm using javascript to show/hide <div> when you click on a button to display proper content without reloading the page (Like a tab menu).
To display the menu in a 'hover' state when you have clicked, i use also javascript to move the background position so it stays on the hover state. But when i mouse over my other menu, they do not apply the CSS anymore.
Here is the JS i use on a 'onclick':
function menu()
{
document.getElementById('menu2').style.backgroundPosition = 'center 0'
document.getElementById('menu1').style.backgroundPosition = 'center -48px'
}
I guess it have something to do with the fact that i alter the CSS with the JS. But anyone know how to fix this without having to create my mouseover with JS and keep it in CSS?

The code below works just great, ie when the page loads the div "box" fades in, then when you click on the div it slides nicely to the left. In addition to the above I want the div to move from left to right as it fades in. I've experimented with different code combinations but can't quite work it out.
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#box').fadeIn(2000);
$('#box').click(function() {

Using json to gather some data. Here's abridged version:
var ids = new Array(1,2,3,4,5,6,7);
for(var i=0;i<ids.length;i++) {
var site = '/ajax/get_feed' + '/<?=isset($dashboard) ? $dashboard : ''?>/' + ids[i];
var divID = ids[i];
getJSON(site, divID);
[Code]...
I remove the ajax loader image, then append data.result, where result is an html string. I want to animate the new content... I've never done something like the following,
$('#twitter img.ajaxloader').fadeOut(); $('#twitter').addClass('lefttext').append(data.result).fadeIn('slow'); I know this doesn't work. Essentially what I'd love to see is for my $('div.row') (the html string returned is wrapped inside a div with a class='row') to animate much like an accordion does when it opens. Just not sure how to get there.

All I needs is for one div to have an animated height when another div is rolled over.Example:
<div class="button"></div>
<div class="animatedBox"></div>
So basically, I want the "animatedBox" div to have an animated expansion in height when the "button" div is rolled over. When the "button" div is rolled out, I would for the "animatedBox" div to go back to the original height. Let's go ahead and say the original height is 20px and when the "button" div is rolled over, the height changes to 50px.

I have an unordered list of links, which on click append a new <li> with the appropriate image, and then slide the whole <ul> left, allowing the image to show through the window. My problem is that after the first time around, the rest of the function executes, but the animate left doesn't.[code]

I am animating an image on a path, after this is done i want it to be removed from dom (currently every time a new element is added and finally the browser locks up due... )
so what i tried was: create the image line 1, create a div and put the image in there line 3, add the div with image to the documents body line 5, animate the div on a path (diverbubbles) for 2 seconds and finally (callback function?!) remove the div again...sounds good, but does not remove. first iteration: 10 bubbles, second iteration 20 bubbles etc...
you can find the full code here:[url]

I am having a problem with an absolutely-positioned div disappearing while IE7 is animating. The animation has a z-index lower than the div containing Questions, Customizable, and Library, but the div disappears during animation. Is there anything I can do about this? I've tried changing the positioning, z-index, and moving the div to occur before the animation, but nothing seems to work. Everything looks fine in FF, IE8, and Safari.

i've been wrestling with this issue for the last hour. I can't seem to get thiscentreddiv to animate properly.What it currently does:A small div, (10x2px) expands to full 100% width and 100% height. However, it expands in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
What I am trying to get it to do: To expand equally in all four directions.
Code:

I've got a problem with animate() that isn't animating the height attribute properly ... no idea why. I've got a picture gallery with text description below the pictures. I reduced the div hight of the container that's containing the gallery (#Gallerie ) to hide the text area and showing only the pictues. Theres a button (Resize_Gallery ) to resize the div containter to full size and shrink it again. But the animation doesen't work like it should. Instad of a smooth vertical movement it partialy moves smooth than jumps to the destination position and then a bit lower.Well, I've got no clue why this happens. When I use slideToggle() the movement works fine. So whey is animate() so different?
$('#Resize_Gallery').toggle( function(evt){evt.preventDefault();
var $GalleyResize=$('#Gallerie');
var $ResizeButton = $('#Resize_Gallery');
$('#Gallerie').animate({ 'height': '100' }, 1500); $ResizeButton.text('Klein');
},function(evt) { evt.preventDefault();
var $GalleyResize=$('#Gallerie');var $ResizeButton = $('#Resize_Gallery');
$('#Gallerie').animate({ 'heigth': '242' }, 1500); $ResizeButton.text('Gross');});

I have a <ul> with <li>'s inside. When I drag something over an <li> it will animate. I then want to cancel the default dragover handler so that I can enable drop on this <li> (I am targeting Google Chrome only, so I only need to cancel the dragover event to enable dropping).
$('li').bind("dragover", dragoverCallback);
function dragoverCallback (event) {
var target = $(event.target);
target.unbind("dragover", dragoverCallback);
[Code].....
However, I see that after the animation, dropping is allowed for a split second, and then the default behavior (not allowing drop) happens again. I'm not sure why. If I comment out line 12, it will work, but then I'm not unregistered the callback, which seems bad.

So at the moment I'm working on an Ajax powered navigation that's animated with a horizontal slide and fade. So far I've imported the Effects Core and Effect "Slide" from the jQuery UI to get the horizontal slide effect in. Here's the documentation on the specific slide technique I'm using from the jQuery UI:[URL].. You can see the work I've done so far:[URL]... As you can see, the Ajax and horizontal slide features are working properly. However, one thing I can't get to work is the horizontal and fade effect to occur at the same time. I mistakenly tried to chain the show/hide functions with the fade function, but of course it happened sequentially instead of simultaneously.
I looked up for solutions online and most point to the animation function as the solution. In this case, I can't figure out a way to work with it because the animation function seems to manipulate the CSS to get the desired effects. While I could have animate change the width of the content area along with its opacity, the width resize would squeeze the text as the content area shrinks which is undesirable for my case. This is why I'm using the Effect "Slide" in the first place, to prevent the text getting squeezed as the content area slides.
So is there anyway I can get a simultaneous fade working at the same time with the Effect "Slide", or do I have to look for other methods of horizontal sliding to get it to work with fades?
