JQuery :: Invalid Argument Error (IE) When Getting "width" Property

May 1, 2009

The following script works fine in all other browsers (centering a nested img). On IE I get the following error message:

Line: 13
Char: 12949
Error: Invalid argument.
Code: 0

I narrowed it down to the line: var i = $("#tabs-1a").css("width"); It appears ie doesn't like the "width" property but I don't know why. Here is the whole script for the page:

$(function(){
$("#FraudVideo").tabs();
$("#TipsNews").tabs();
var i = $("#tabs-1a").css("width");

JQuery :: Error IE Invalid Argument

May 21, 2010

I amreceivingthe following error on IE8:Invalid argument. jquery-1.4.2.js, line 5899 character 5 Now I have used the debugger, and this seems to be the only error it catches. And I realize that I could go through each line of what I wrote and figure out what line triggered this portion of jQuery. However in the interest of making jQuery better, I want to understand this error and fix it in the jQuery file.

Display Property Error Only In IE7?

Aug 12, 2010

I have a page: [URL] that works perfectly fine in every browser I try, except for actual IE7 (it even works fine in IE8 emulating IE7). When you search for something on that page and have a display of results, each result has a link that changes a table row's display to visible, and hides the row when clicked again. It doesn't do that in IE7. here are no errors or warning in Firefox's Error Console. But IE7 has an "Error on Page" notice (which does NOT appear in IE8 emulating IE7), that says:

Line: 59
Char: 11
Error: Could not get the display property. Invalid argument.

[Code]I really don't know what to do, or where to begin. Everything in my limited knowledge seems to be working just fine. Most of my site's visitors use IE8, but enough use actual IE7 that I really need to fix this.

Bug Testing In IE8 - Invalid Argument Error ?

Jun 24, 2011

I'm testing my webpage in IE8. In firefox it looks and runs greag, but in IE 8, one issue I'm having is this: I have a button that opens a popup window. Works fine in Firefox, but I get 'invalid argument' error in IE8 and the window does not open. I've enabled at a whim some scripting things in the Internet Options.

Here's the code. The "invalid argument" occurs on the window.open call.

In addition, is there any way to have that tile I've given it, "my Site..." appear in the window header? Right now it's not appearing at all in either browser.

JQuery :: Invalid Argument Line 12 1.3.2 IE 7 And 8rc1

Mar 8, 2009

I have just upgraded one of our development sites to 1.3.2 and ui 1.7. I have also updated all of the plugins (forms,validate,thickbox,calculation,blockUI,autogrow) to the latest versions which should all be compatible with 1.3.2 and the site is working perfectly in Firefox 3 on OS X and XP. However on IE8rc1 and in IE7 compat mode I am getting an Invalid Argument error reported at line 12 of jquery-1.3.2.min.js. That is the usual really helpful IE error message and I have been unable to track down the source of the problem. I have noticed that some people have seen this problem with the ui.accordion and 1.7 was supposed to have fixed the issue. Does anyone know of a fix (apart from banning the use of IE - if only)? If I could get the error in FF I could at least use Firebug to debug it. I think I might need to comment out each plugin and see if I can trace the source of the error.

JQuery :: Display Bunch Of <li> Elements Consecutively Using .animate?

Apr 4, 2010

I tried to enumerate through a index array to assign different ids to newly retrieved JSON data, the li element is initially set to be hidden and the hidden data can be seen from console. But the browser is failing to show the data when I tried to use ('li#a').animate({opacity: "show"}, "slow"); I also tried to use .animate right after each <li> appendTo the body and failed to show as well. I am wondering how to fix this? Is there any better way of handling this with out creating an enumerating array?

JQuery :: Usage Of Animate - Elements First Disappear Then Display

Nov 15, 2010

I have a list for example
<ul id="applications">
<li id="id-1" class="util"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="app"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="util"></li>
<li id="id-1" class="app"></li>
</ul>

Then I want a select some of the list with some animate effect, first the all of the elements would disappear, then the elements that I wanted would display one by one the code:
$('#applications li').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.hide("slow");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
$('#applications li[class="app"]').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.fadeIn("fast");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});

The final effect is that all the elements would disappear first but the element I wanted would not display? Then I think about the queue,before I use it I change a little about the code:
$('#applications li').each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.hide("slow");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});
$('#applications li')
.each(function (index) {
setTimeout(function (e) {
e.fadeIn("fast");
}, index * 100, $(this));
});

The yellow part is the different from the former one, the effect is that all the elements would disappear first, then all the would display again without any problem!

Invalid Argument With AppendChild

Jul 23, 2005

If I try to append a PARAM tag twice I'm having problems:

var.medDiv = document.getElementById("myDiv");

var medObj = document.createElement("object");

var p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("FileName",this.URL);
medObj.appendChild(p);

p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("AutoStart","false");
medObj.appendChild(p); // <-- this one

medDiv.appendChild(medObj);

The line with the "this one" comment triggers IE to tell me that it has
an invalid argument. If I change the order of the PARAMs then the new
second PARAM will give me the error. If I move the setAttribute to after
the appendChild I still get the error.

Browsers will refresh itself when the display property is changed; this causes the element to display then suddenly disappear after the page reload. Do you guys have an idea what I can do to avoid it?

I tried using jquery's show command, css command with setting display to block, and pure javascript method like document.getElementById("theId").style.display="block".
