Invalid Argument On Window Open Method

Mar 24, 2009

<a href="##" onclick="window.open('/Calendar/new.cfm','New Appointment','toolbar=0,height=800,width=850')" style="text-decoration:none; ">New</a>
I try to run this and I get an error saying invalid argument. I thought at first that maybe because the page is in a frame that it throws the error but I ran it outside of the frame and it still doesn't work. It works in FireFox though. Unfortunately I need it to work in IE 8.

Invalid Argument With AppendChild

Jul 23, 2005

If I try to append a PARAM tag twice I'm having problems:

var.medDiv = document.getElementById("myDiv");

var medObj = document.createElement("object");

var p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("FileName",this.URL);
medObj.appendChild(p);

p = document.createElement("param");
p.setAttribute("AutoStart","false");
medObj.appendChild(p); // <-- this one

medDiv.appendChild(medObj);

The line with the "this one" comment triggers IE to tell me that it has
an invalid argument. If I change the order of the PARAMs then the new
second PARAM will give me the error. If I move the setAttribute to after
the appendChild I still get the error.

JQuery :: Error IE Invalid Argument

May 21, 2010

I amreceivingthe following error on IE8:Invalid argument. jquery-1.4.2.js, line 5899 character 5 Now I have used the debugger, and this seems to be the only error it catches. And I realize that I could go through each line of what I wrote and figure out what line triggered this portion of jQuery. However in the interest of making jQuery better, I want to understand this error and fix it in the jQuery file.

Bug Testing In IE8 - Invalid Argument Error ?

Jun 24, 2011

I'm testing my webpage in IE8. In firefox it looks and runs greag, but in IE 8, one issue I'm having is this: I have a button that opens a popup window. Works fine in Firefox, but I get 'invalid argument' error in IE8 and the window does not open. I've enabled at a whim some scripting things in the Internet Options.

Here's the code. The "invalid argument" occurs on the window.open call.

In addition, is there any way to have that tile I've given it, "my Site..." appear in the window header? Right now it's not appearing at all in either browser.

JQuery :: Invalid Argument Line 12 1.3.2 IE 7 And 8rc1

Mar 8, 2009

I have just upgraded one of our development sites to 1.3.2 and ui 1.7. I have also updated all of the plugins (forms,validate,thickbox,calculation,blockUI,autogrow) to the latest versions which should all be compatible with 1.3.2 and the site is working perfectly in Firefox 3 on OS X and XP. However on IE8rc1 and in IE7 compat mode I am getting an Invalid Argument error reported at line 12 of jquery-1.3.2.min.js. That is the usual really helpful IE error message and I have been unable to track down the source of the problem. I have noticed that some people have seen this problem with the ui.accordion and 1.7 was supposed to have fixed the issue. Does anyone know of a fix (apart from banning the use of IE - if only)? If I could get the error in FF I could at least use Firebug to debug it. I think I might need to comment out each plugin and see if I can trace the source of the error.

Window.open Object Doesn't Support Property Or Method

Nov 11, 2011

i have a main.asp page where users can select items from dropdowns and listboxes. i have a view report button where i have a onclick property which triggers a javascript function. the function combines all the screen inputs and based on that generates a report in a new window. i have used window.open for this.the problem is, when i close the child window, come back to the main window and click the button again (with all the input fields already selected), the same report should be generated again. instead, i am getting the error : "Object doesn't support the property or method".

i have to refresh the main.asp page, select all the input fields again and then click on the button to generate the report.why am i losing the objects of the parent page after doing window.open?

JQuery :: IE "Invalid Argument", Line 4618 Of -1.4.2.js

Aug 19, 2010

I'm turning up an IE "Invalid Argument" error which the browser traces to line 4618, char 4 of jquery-1.4.2.js

I know enough to determine that that line part of a function that does something to set styles of elements, but I can't figure out much more than that.

The call I'm making is as follows:

I assume that the issue has to do with topVal. I'm able to trace it out and it is a number that is different for each div in the loop... so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... pasting complete script below. disregard the multitude of console.logs.

Cannot Get Method Argument Passed As Function Parameter

Dec 1, 2011

New to JS. Have ordered some new books, but need to get somethings going in the mean time. What I wanted to do is to link to a new page having a date range input in the form of 6 text boxes, 2 sets of mm-dd-yy, from and to, where the upon loading the page box 1 of the from would auto focus and then auto tab and then post where php could take over on the server side. Setting up the form and the lay out, no problem. Auto focusing went just like expected using the following code, included because on the next step everything fell apart.

Code:
<script type="text/javascript" >
window.onload=function() {
document.getElementById("input1").focus();
}
</script>

So then the wheels came off and in response, began to simplify what was trying to be done to find where the issues were. As far as I can get working is:
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]">
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" >
window.onload=function() {
document.getElementById("input1").focus();
}
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" >
function myFunc() {
alert("is this working");
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<input id="input1" name="input1" type="text" onkeyup="myFunc()" maxlength="2" value="type a No." />
</body>
</html>

First issue with this: When I first get to the page everything is just as ordered. The focus is on the text box and the default value is "type a No." When I press a key onkeyup, I bring up the alert box with "is this working" in it. But when I refresh the page with the refresh button, after clicking the "ok" on the alert box, the character that was typed in is still displayed. If I use the link to the page, or the URL from the address bar, then the page reloads properly with the default value, "type a No".

How do you get the default textbox value using the refresh button as apposed to reloading the page using a link or from the address bar? Using Firefox 8.0 more important at the moment: If I change the script to pass an argument to the function the script crashes. It does not pull up an alert box and freezes. My guess is that I'm doing something wrong on a concept level. Changed the default value of the text box to " ". Looked like to me there was an issue with the size specification and the default string length as you could only enter in a key stroke by highlighting the text and replacing it.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "[URL]">
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" >
window.onload=function() {
document.getElementById("input1").focus();
}
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" >
function myFunc(awe) {
alert(awe);
}
</script>
</head>
<body>
<input id="input1" name="input1" type="text" onkeyup="myFunc("123")" maxlength="2" value="" />
</body>
</html>

Jquery :: Create Some Links With Window.open Method - When I Alert What Is Being Built, The Links Don't Work?

Mar 10, 2010

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:

$("#content").empty();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",[code]..........

Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

Passing A Function As An Argument And Using The Evaluated Functionas An Argument

Nov 30, 2006

how to you use the result of a function as the argument for another function instead of passing the actual function to it. i.e.

function foo2(){}

function foo(func){}

foo(foo2);

This passes foo2 to foo, can I do foo(foo2()) ? i.e. is the difference between whether a function is passed or evaluated dependent on whether you use "()" after the function name?
