I have what I think is a simple $.ajax() call.I added complete and error functions but a time out in firefox 3.5.2 doesn't cause the error function to be called and when the complete function is called both parameters are undefined.If I make the ajax call return a http 500 response the error function is called.[code]Running on FF 3.5.2, JQuery 1.6.2 on XP Pro.

Now, I am having one problem with the .ajax() function. My problem is, the timeout value seems to be completely ignored. [code]...
The idea is that when the underlying hardware is restarted (this is a control page for a device), we should time out very quickly, rather than locking the browser. I have stepped though with a debugger, and the 250ms value is definitely being inserted when the reboot command is issued. Any idea why this is not working?
I'm doing this async ajax request which takes a a long time,But on my iPad (safari) it always times-out after 60 seconds

After login the user gets the application screen where most of the server communication is done by ajax (json). If there was no ajax communication for a long time (timeout), the server (php) sends a session timout (something like error=timeout) and wants the user to sign in again. Now comes the tricky part:I want to show a window where the user enters the login information. Now the application should send these information to the login.php and after acknowledgment, the last ajax request should be sent again.Is there a possibility to send an ajax request again with same settings?

If a timeout occurs (I switch the local webserver off), the 'success' method will be called! More than this in the textStatus parameter there is a string with "success" !!! The error handler doesn't even get called.... (As you may notice the only way I had to tell the problem, was to check the data param if it is null or 0 length. How can I avoid this?

I'm not sure if this is a php issue or jquery issue. When I complete the form and hit submit it puts the successful message up like its supposed to but also with the fields still filled in the form which it shouldn't be doing and it doesn't actually post in the database so I'm not sure if its a php issue or jquery issue.

I am trying to get my head around this AJAX/JS problem with IE where I am getting visitor info like cookie, ip, URL, referrer, user agent and sending it to an external domain where my database is storing all the stats for the client. In short something like Google Analytics does. My script is working fine in Firefox and chrome so far but getting "Access Denied" error on http.open() in IE. I did try derelict's method but I guess I am missing something and same thing happens in IE without error. It is not sending the data to external domain. I am sure many of you have tried and make it worked but I am not able to get it working. I have another option where I can add a php or asp file and use cURL to send the value but I want to make it simple like GA as there may be many clients with different servers and might not possible to add additional pages.

As characters are entered, I use AJAX to retrieve a list of matches from my products table and display them in a simple unordered list below the search box.This works great, until the user clicks one of the matches.Because I have set the onblur event of the search box to hide the autocomplete box, when the search box loses focus as a result of one of the links in the autocomplete box being clicked, the autocomplete box is hidden and the link is not activated.How can I get the links to work, and also have the autocomplete options disappear when the search box loses focus?

I can create a div below it with a list of results but now need to allow the user to select. I can setup it up with an onClick, easy. But I need help with the arrow buttons as that is how I would like it to function. The script only allows 5 results at a time with each having an id of 0 to 4. Each result is a div, below is this code (created by PHP):

As evidence by my posting, this is not working correctly. The variable response_recieved is coming up undefined outside of the callback function assigned to the onreadystatechangeproperty.
Based on the information that I have gathered online from various forums, I believe this issue has to deal with a problem with closure in the callback function assigned to onreadystatechange property. I don't think it has any. Based on the fact that there is no anonymous function in that function. But my problem is that the call back function is anonymous itself... I think???

Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.
