JQuery :: $.ajax Complete Parms Undefined And Timeout
Oct 12, 2009
I have what I think is a simple $.ajax() call.I added complete and error functions but a time out in firefox 3.5.2 doesn't cause the error function to be called and when the complete function is called both parameters are undefined.If I make the ajax call return a http 500 response the error function is called.[code]Running on FF 3.5.2, JQuery 1.6.2 on XP Pro.

First off, great job guys. I love this library.
Now, I am having one problem with the .ajax() function. My problem is, the timeout value seems to be completely ignored. [code]...
The idea is that when the underlying hardware is restarted (this is a control page for a device), we should time out very quickly, rather than locking the browser. I have stepped though with a debugger, and the 250ms value is definitely being inserted when the reboot command is issued. Any idea why this is not working?

I'm developing a jquery web application. On start the user gets a login screen to sign in (verification and session checking is done by php). After login the user gets the application screen where most of the server communication is done by ajax (json). If there was no ajax communication for a long time (timeout), the server (php) sends a session timout (something like error=timeout) and wants the user to sign in again. Now comes the tricky part:I want to show a window where the user enters the login information. Now the application should send these information to the login.php and after acknowledgment, the last ajax request should be sent again.Is there a possibility to send an ajax request again with same settings?

I've noticed this weird behaviour of jQuery in Safari and Chrome (didn't test on Firefox as I'm using some webkit CSS extensions). After setting up the call like this:
$.ajax( {
'url' : url,
'dataType' : 'json',
data : reqdata,
cache: false,
method: 'get',
timeout: 20000, //10 secs of timeout
success : function(data, textStatus, XMLHttpRequest) { .....
If a timeout occurs (I switch the local webserver off), the 'success' method will be called! More than this in the textStatus parameter there is a string with "success" !!! The error handler doesn't even get called.... (As you may notice the only way I had to tell the problem, was to check the data param if it is null or 0 length. How can I avoid this?

I'm making a call to a Twitter JSON feed, and when I pass an incorrect username, jQuery's ajax complete method never gets called.
An example of a JSON response that causes complete not to be called (nor error, nor success) is: [url]
Here's my code:
Any ideas on why the complete method isn't getting called? Shouldn't this always get called?

I'm not sure if this is a php issue or jquery issue. When I complete the form and hit submit it puts the successful message up like its supposed to but also with the fields still filled in the form which it shouldn't be doing and it doesn't actually post in the database so I'm not sure if its a php issue or jquery issue.

How might I go about getting the parsed JSON object in the complete function? The json param shown below seems to just receive the http status text message.
My 2nd question would be how should I knwo if the first place what params I can receive to a callback function like this?

type: 'POST',
url: 'url.json',
dataType: 'json',

I am trying to get my head around this AJAX/JS problem with IE where I am getting visitor info like cookie, ip, URL, referrer, user agent and sending it to an external domain where my database is storing all the stats for the client. In short something like Google Analytics does. My script is working fine in Firefox and chrome so far but getting "Access Denied" error on http.open() in IE. I did try derelict's method but I guess I am missing something and same thing happens in IE without error. It is not sending the data to external domain. I am sure many of you have tried and make it worked but I am not able to get it working. I have another option where I can add a php or asp file and use cURL to send the value but I want to make it simple like GA as there may be many clients with different servers and might not possible to add additional pages.
Code:
//This is processJS.shtml page to use PHP within JS
var guestID=getCookie('guestID');
if (guestID==null || guestID=="") {
setCookie('guestID',"-1",365);
} var guestID=getCookie('guestID');
var siteurl = '<!--#echo var="HTTP_HOST"-->';
var ip = '<!--#echo var="REMOTE_ADDR"-->';
var agent = '<!--#echo var="HTTP_USER_AGENT"-->';
var page = document.URL;
var ref = document.referrer;
var clientID = '123'; // clientID will be different for each client .....

I have a text input field - a search box. As characters are entered, I use AJAX to retrieve a list of matches from my products table and display them in a simple unordered list below the search box.This works great, until the user clicks one of the matches.Because I have set the onblur event of the search box to hide the autocomplete box, when the search box loses focus as a result of one of the links in the autocomplete box being clicked, the autocomplete box is hidden and the link is not activated.How can I get the links to work, and also have the autocomplete options disappear when the search box loses focus?

Im currently creating a textbox with an AJAX auto-complete feature but have reached a wall. I can create a div below it with a list of results but now need to allow the user to select. I can setup it up with an onClick, easy. But I need help with the arrow buttons as that is how I would like it to function. The script only allows 5 results at a time with each having an id of 0 to 4. Each result is a div, below is this code (created by PHP):
PHP Code:
echo "<div id='".$i."' class='userSelect'>".$i.$row["friendName"]."<div>";
There is a JS file attached to the page this is echoed onto, so what would the code need to be on both the div (mouseup, mousedown...) and then the function that calls.

In firefox, i look through the DOM and its showing me that both xmlHttpRequest and ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP") are undefined.Also if one could check the ready state methods I used, I'm not 100% if they are correct eg. xhttp.onreadystatechange = loadBlurbs() and if null is the value for a failed loading procedure.lasty, can I do this processBlurbs() = getElementByTagName, and then, processBlurbs() { this.length, this.child etc. ? }
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
var blurbdoc;
var blurbs;[code].......

This piece of code is used for an AJAX function, it works perfectly well in all other browsers than internet explorer.
// JavaScript Document
// store xmlhttp in a variable
var xmlHttp;
function xmlHttpRequestObject () {
// assume we're working with a newer browser
try {
xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest();
}
catch(e) {
// assume IE6 or older
try {
xmlHttp = new activeXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
}
catch(e) { }
} .....

I have been trying to figure this out for a few days now and have finally come to the point where I think I got it but may just need a little push to get what I want.
Heres the situation:
I have this function that uses ajax to access a database and returns the results in the responseText. That part is working fine, I have confirmed that the responseText contains the information that I need
**************code*****************************************
//new ajax already created and assigned to the variable xmlhttp//
var response_recieved = "some data";
function get_answer(Table_Name, Field_Name, Data_Type) {
[Code]....
As evidence by my posting, this is not working correctly. The variable response_recieved is coming up undefined outside of the callback function assigned to the onreadystatechangeproperty.
Based on the information that I have gathered online from various forums, I believe this issue has to deal with a problem with closure in the callback function assigned to onreadystatechange property. I don't think it has any. Based on the fact that there is no anonymous function in that function. But my problem is that the call back function is anonymous itself... I think???
get the variable response_recieved to survive outside of this function.

I can not for the life of me get an ajax example/tutorial to work. I have tried dozens including prototype library and JQuery.
Here is my latest attempt:
As you can see I am trying to alert the variable teamH but I keep getting an undefined in the alert. I also tried a static drop down and I received the same undefined alert.
How I get that variable to contain my drop down choice?

I'm new to ajax. I've made a script that should return results from database but it keeps telling me just undefined. Code what I have:
Code:
var ajax = null;
function showRes(wut) {
if(wut.length == 0) {
document.getElementById("results").innerHTML = "";
return;
} if(window.XMLHttpRequest) {
// IE7+, ff, chrome, opera, safari
ajax = new XMLHttpRequest();
}else if(window.ActiveXObject) {
// retards
ajax = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
} else {
alert("Your "browser" does not support AJAX!");
return;
} var url = "search.php?q=" + wut;
url = url + "&sid=" + Math.random();
ajax.open("GET", url, true);
ajax.send(null);
document.getElementById("results").innerHTML = ajax.reponseText;

Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.

e.preventDefault();
$('#nav li a').removeClass('on');
[code]....
I need to do this, in addition to .click-binding, automatically; i.e., if no user-action by 15 secs I need this content-switching to start happening automatically; and also give 5 secs or so for the next div to show up (and hide div currently visible); how do I do this? like a slideshow, in other words, but switching divs (and doing the classes for the thumbnails)

Cycle will handle variable timeouts, and it will handle nested slideshows, but I can't find any code for variable timeouts within nested slideshows. I've tried cobbling together a fix, but it didn't work (don't ask me to explain...it's embarrassing).
how to mate the script for variable timeouts with the code for nested slideshows?
