JQuery :: Using Compound Css Selectors To Toggle A Class Of An Image?
Mar 12, 2011
I'm creating a hover effect like this. I have a 6 columns of images. There are 2 images per column stacked on top of each other. Like so:
X X X X X X
X X X X X X
The top row of X's I want to start out as invisible. When you hover over the bottom row of images, the top row fade's in (by toggling the css code opacity from 0 to 100), and then when you mouseover, it fades back out to 0. I'm having trouble setting this up. Here's my HTML:
<div class="carbox" id="box1"><img src="img/impreza2.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/impreza.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>
<div class="carbox" id="box2"><img src="img/wrx.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/wrx.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>
<div class="carbox" id="box3"><img src="img/legacy2.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/legacy.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>
[code]....

I've got a <ul> w/ 6 <li> items and CSS to make them 104x228 side blocks, which hold 2 images, one on top of the other. The 6 rows of images look like this:
X X X X X
X X X X X
This is what I want: The top row of images to be opacity:0 (or hidden), and then when you mouseover the bottom images, the top images come to 100 opacity. When you mouseout, the opacity is back to 0.Here's the HTML and CSS:
<ul class="carz">
<li><img src="img/impreza2.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/impreza.jpg" /></li>
<li><img src="img/wrx.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/wrx.jpg" /></li>[code]....
I am new to jQuery coding (but loving learning) and I want to figure out: how do I make this in jQuery? Here's what I have so far:
$(function() {
$("ul.carz li").hover(function() {
$(this).find('img.imgtophidden').addClass('imgtop')[code].....

I've been dabbling in the coding for a few weeks now and I want to build my own plugin for fun, but I think there's something that I don't fully understand (that's probably systemic to the syntax or order).
So this is what I have so far...and it's pretty cool
(currently running...<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.4.4.js"></script>)
$(document).ready(function()
{
[Code].....
So my questions are as follows:
1) As a general question, is there an order in which "commands" should be called? I'm assuming that it should be some logical order. For example, if I asked to apply the green formatting to the div before it has been created (via the .append command), it wouldn't work right? The only exception is if I call a function, I could put that function pretty much anywhere in the document.
2) How come I can use $('.searchstyle').hide() inside a function, but I can't select for it outside of the function? Does it cease to exist after the function has been run?
2a) Does it have something to do with XML data? (I was able to do what I wanted in an isolated example when had the output data put in the html).

I am trying to make a block/unblock feature that when the block button is clicked unblocked appears and then the user can then be immediately unblocked. This is working fine if I block, manually fresh, hit unblock. Works wonderfully in fact. The problem arises when I try to unblock before doing a page refresh. It tries to block again instead of unblocking even though the class is set up as .unblockUser

Given the following input tag which is enclosed within a hidden div tag:<input id="X" class="Y"/> this call (id-based) locates the tag: $(this).find("#X")but this one doesn't (class-based)I couldn't find any documentation indicating find() working differently when using id-based vs class-based selectors.

I'm trying to toggle the on and off class on list items but having issues it working.
I only want the 'on' class on the element that is clicked. So if another element in the list is clicked it removes the 'on' class from the one that had it to the one that has been clicked.

Look at my "Fiddle":[url]
I'm having problems with the jQuery 'if' statement. When the div 'accord3' is hidden, I'd like the class 'linklast' to be added to 'Schools' --> the bottom corners are rounded. When the div 'accord3' is visible, the bottom corners must be square, meaning the class 'linklast' has to be removed. This has to be able to switch back and forth while I toggle the visibility.

On my website I have a lot of entries which are similar to blog-entries. Every single entry has about 500 signs and if there are more than there is supposed to be a button "read further"(atm there is no button but later it will be). If the user click this button, the remaining text of the entry is supposed to slide down. My problem is now that I don't know how to slide down just one article. Every article looks like this:
<article class="dark">
<div class="text"><h2>Title</h2> .....
<div class="slide_text"> .....
</div></div>
</article>
But how to slide down only the "slide_text" which belongs to the clicked article. If I use:
$('article').click(function() {
$('.slide_text').slideToggle(200);
});
Every singe "slide_text" of all the entries appears. But this is not, what I want. Is there a way to toggle just the child-slide_text of one entry? Or do I have to give every entry an id to define which entry is supposed to toggle?

How to do this but still can't figure it out. I'm currently reading jQuery from novice to ninja but I'm no where close to a ninja. I have a div containing list items, a photo, and a plus/minus button at the bottom of the div. The list items are absolutely positioned behind the photo. When I click on the plus button I want it to change to minus and animate the photo 29px from the top revealing the list-items behind it. Then I want to click the minus button changing it back to plus and animating the photo back up to the top.
I'm trying to accomplish something very similar to what you see on Kyanmedia.com. Except their images animate down and up on hover. I want my image to animate down then up on click and toggle the plus/minus image. I'm new to jQuery so I'm having a real hard time trying to figure this out. Everything I've tried doesn't work. The links to Kyan Media to get an idea of what I'm trying to do.

I just started with Jquery:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#desperation input[type=image]').attr('disabled', true).fadeTo
("fast", 0.10);
$('#1').attr('disabled', false).fadeTo("fast", 0.70);
});
$('#1').toggle(
function () {
$('#1').click(function() {
$('#1').fadeTo("fast", 1.00).attr('checked', true);
$('#2').attr('disabled', false);
});},
function () {
$('#1').click(function() {
$('#1').fadeTo("fast", 0.70).attr('checked', false);
$('#2').attr('disabled', true);
});});
</script>
<div id="skill">
<form action="javascript:void(null);" method="post"
enctype="application/x-www-form-urlencoded" id="skillplanner"
name="skillplanner" >
<fieldset id="desperation"><legend>Freetrader Skills: Desperation</
legend>
<input type="image" src="files/icons/underdog.png" id="1"></input>
<input type="image" src="files/icons/dump_guns.png" id="2"></input>
<input type="image" src="files/icons/desperation_fire.png" id="3"></input>
<input type="image" src="files/icons/rum_ration.png" id="4"></input>
<input type="image" src="files/icons/hasty_fire.png" id="5"></input>
</fieldset></form></div>
The problem is with the toggle function. On click it should "check" clicked one and activate next one. Function doesnt work and I dont have a clue....

I'm building a site that uses some jQuery but at this point I haven't had to get my hands dirty in the code. I'm hoping to get some pointers on how to best approach this problem, or if a plug-in exists to point me that way. I'm anticipating I'll need to build the code though because of the specific nature of the issue. I have a two very complex MySQL data trees that need to cross reference. To handle the cross referencing I simply have a third table that links the ids of the large tables together. That way I can join data via the linking table. This is all working and established. What I need to do is allow the admin user to navigate through one tree from within the context of a particular element from the other tree and click a toggle icon (tick or cross) to create or delete the cross reference in the linking table. Traditionally I would perform this task using forms but I want the user to be able to make these changes on the fly without needing to reload the page. I also want to stop further toggling until the update or delete has been completed.

I have a bg image set on the container div so there's an initial image to view.I also need multiple of these on the same page!

I'm working on this page: Work in progress
I'm using this tutorial:
On my work in progress link, I have two players on one page that just replace each other. The problem is with the left and right navigation arrows on the picture viewer. When you switch to the video player (grey video button on below player) the navigation arrows remain, I want them to only appear on the picture viewer. I think I can do this using z-index in css but need to give the two arrows some id's so I can select them. I can't seem to work it out in jquery! How to give the two images id's (see code below) or even better, make them only appear when you are on the picture viewer.
