I'm trying to toggle the on and off class on list items but having issues it working.
I only want the 'on' class on the element that is clicked. So if another element in the list is clicked it removes the 'on' class from the one that had it to the one that has been clicked.

I'm creating a hover effect like this. I have a 6 columns of images. There are 2 images per column stacked on top of each other. Like so:
X X X X X X
X X X X X X
The top row of X's I want to start out as invisible. When you hover over the bottom row of images, the top row fade's in (by toggling the css code opacity from 0 to 100), and then when you mouseover, it fades back out to 0. I'm having trouble setting this up. Here's my HTML:
<div class="carbox" id="box1"><img src="img/impreza2.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/impreza.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>
<div class="carbox" id="box2"><img src="img/wrx.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/wrx.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>
<div class="carbox" id="box3"><img src="img/legacy2.jpg" class="imgtophidden"/><img src="img/legacy.jpg" class="imgbot" /></div>

Look at my "Fiddle":[url]
I'm having problems with the jQuery 'if' statement. When the div 'accord3' is hidden, I'd like the class 'linklast' to be added to 'Schools' --> the bottom corners are rounded. When the div 'accord3' is visible, the bottom corners must be square, meaning the class 'linklast' has to be removed. This has to be able to switch back and forth while I toggle the visibility.

On my website I have a lot of entries which are similar to blog-entries. Every single entry has about 500 signs and if there are more than there is supposed to be a button "read further"(atm there is no button but later it will be). If the user click this button, the remaining text of the entry is supposed to slide down. My problem is now that I don't know how to slide down just one article. Every article looks like this:
<article class="dark">
<div class="text"><h2>Title</h2> .....
<div class="slide_text"> .....
</div></div>
</article>
But how to slide down only the "slide_text" which belongs to the clicked article. If I use:
$('article').click(function() {
$('.slide_text').slideToggle(200);
});
Every singe "slide_text" of all the entries appears. But this is not, what I want. Is there a way to toggle just the child-slide_text of one entry? Or do I have to give every entry an id to define which entry is supposed to toggle?

Is there anyway to have a CSS class returned as an object? This would be rather useful to feed, for example, to the .animate() function. There is no way to animate directly to a CSS class as destination, is there?

I'm trying to implement a minimal navigation bar using jQuery's toggleClass() function but can't seem to get it working.
It's the .img_selector div at the bottom of the page:[url]
I want to toggle the 'active' class for each <a> when it's selected, to indicate which image is showing, so after calling jQuery, in the <head> I've got:

I have an each loop that goes through all the elements in a certain class. What I need to do is get the ID of the current element in the each loop, but I can't seem to figure out how to. var currentID =$(this).attr ("id"); was my first assumption, but it's not working. [code]The css is just for debugging, not the goal, so alternate ways for me to do that won't help.

I have a javascript object which dynamically generates a table adding, deleting and moving rows as the user clicks on buttons or links. Problem is when I generate a table row and add the javascript method call to my class, I have to put the object instance name variable of the class in order for it to be called from the onclick=function(). This is seriously limiting, but I'm stuck for a way round it. Heres a edited of the code so you get the idea....
Instantiating the object :-
var dtl = new DynamicTableList("table1", $
{myObject.allFieldsAsJavaScriptArray}, true, true, true);
My javascript class DynamicTableList, note the dtl javascript object
instance variable being referred to in the addRow function. How can I
avoid this???
function DynamicTableList(thisObjName, tableName, options, showDelete,
showUp, showDown)
{
this.processRow = function(r, row, up, down)
{
...
};
this.processRows = function()
{
...
};
this.getVisibility = function(visible)
{
...
};
this.delRow = function(button)
{
...
};
this.addRow = function(selection)
{
...
if (showDelete)
{
var cell2 = document.createElement('TD');
var inp2 = document.createElement('IMG');
/
************************************************** ***********************************************/
inp2.onclick=function(){dtl.delRow(this);} // Have to specify
dtc!!!!!!!!
/
************************************************** ***********************************************/
inp2.title='Delete'
inp2.alt='Delete'
inp2.src='images/delete.gif'
cell2.appendChild(inp2);
row.appendChild(cell2);
}
...
tbody.appendChild(row);
this.processRows();
};
this.moveRow = function(node, vector)
{
};
}
Obviously the code dtl.delRow(this); is being dynamically generated, but how do I replace the dtl instance name with something that'll work whatever the user of this class calls the instance of it!

The problems with the setTimeout and setInterval functions provided in Javascript are twofold. First, you can't call a local object method without losing your scope, and second, you can't pass objects to the function, since the function call is implemented as a string.
The Timer class solves these difficulties by employing a static array to store the parent object and function arguments until the function is called.
This class is provided as-is and pro bono, so go ahead and muck with it if you see things that could be done better.
Thanks to WA for giving me the idea for this (albeit indirectly)!

// The constructor should be called with
// the parent object (optional, defaults to window).
function Timer(){
this.obj = (arguments.length)?arguments[0]:window;
return this;
}
// The set functions should be called with:
// - The name of the object method (as a string) (required)
// - The millisecond delay (required)
// - Any number of extra arguments, which will all be
// passed to the method when it is evaluated.
Timer.prototype.setInterval = function(func, msec){
var i = Timer.getNew();
var t = Timer.buildCall(this.obj, i, arguments);
Timer.set[i].timer = window.setInterval(t,msec);
return i;
}
Timer.prototype.setTimeout = function(func, msec){
var i = Timer.getNew();
Timer.buildCall(this.obj, i, arguments);
Timer.set[i].timer = window.setTimeout("Timer.callOnce("+i+");",msec);
return i;
}
// The clear functions should be called with
// the return value from the equivalent set function.
Timer.prototype.clearInterval = function(i){
if(!Timer.set[i]) return;
window.clearInterval(Timer.set[i].timer);
Timer.set[i] = null;
}
Timer.prototype.clearTimeout = function(i){
if(!Timer.set[i]) return;
window.clearTimeout(Timer.set[i].timer);
Timer.set[i] = null;
}
// Private data
Timer.set = new Array();
Timer.buildCall = function(obj, i, args){
var t = "";
Timer.set[i] = new Array();
if(obj != window){
Timer.set[i].obj = obj;
t = "Timer.set["+i+"].obj.";
}
t += args[0]+"(";
if(args.length > 2){
Timer.set[i][0] = args[2];
t += "Timer.set["+i+"][0]";
for(var j=1; (j+2)<args.length; j++){
Timer.set[i][j] = args[j+2];
t += ", Timer.set["+i+"]["+j+"]";
}}
t += ");";
Timer.set[i].call = t;
return t;
}
Timer.callOnce = function(i){
if(!Timer.set[i]) return;
eval(Timer.set[i].call);
Timer.set[i] = null;
}
Timer.getNew = function(){
var i = 0;
while(Timer.set[i]) i++;
return i;
}
Here's an example of the code in action:
function Ticker(){
this.count = 0;
this.timer = new Timer(this);
}
Ticker.prototype.tick = function(d){
this.count+=d;
window.status = ""+this.count;
this.timer.setTimeout("tick", 1000, d);
}
window.onload = function(){
var ticker = new Ticker();
ticker.tick(1);
}

I have created a class array (or variable that contains an array) and am trying to add an element to the array when a new Element object is created. Thus, the line of code to add a new element to the array is within the Element object's constructor function. However, the browser just gives me an error "object expected on line 9", the line of code trying to add an element to the array.
Are arrays not functional within objects? Or, is it that the array is made as a class variable?
Code:
function Element() {
// INSTANCE VARIABLES
this.name = "newElement" + Element.total_elements_created; // GIVE UNIQUE NAME
// INITIALIZATIONS
Element.element_count ++; // INCREASE TOTAL NUMBER OF ELEMENTS EXISTING

What I have been doing so far to make a "class"/Reusable object is this:
PHP Code:
function Dog(){
this.name name;
this.bark = function(){
[code]...
However, recently I have been reading a book on Javascript and it said that the problem with this way of doing it, is that the bark() function will be loaded into memory for each Dog object created this way, while the body of that function is the same for each object.
- A Person class with a name property and a jump() method.
- An animal class with a isMammal property and move() method.
- A Dog class with a numberOfLegs property and a bark() method which is a subclass of Animal (thus inherits the isMammal property and move() method.
- Each of those classes in its own file.
This book I've been reading is actually pretty good, but at some points it's explanation is not rich enough.It explains that functions are objects and that objects in javascript are just key-value pairs. It says that each function has a prototype property which points to a blank Object(), but you can make it point to something else? or maybe I misunderstood it. I still don't understand how it really works.

I have a few String prototypes such as String.prototype.EscapeReg = function () { return this.replace(/[-[]{}()*+?.,\^$|#s]/g, "\$&"); }; // Escapes characters for use with a regular expressionI also have my own class/ library which is used like this var adg = new AndyG_ns.ADG_Utils(); adg.StartClock('AndyClock','dd mmm yy hh:nn'); // etc.What I would like to do is to only add the prototype to my library (not to the global namespace). The end result I'm looking for is to use code such as:
var adg = new AndyG_ns.ADG_Utils();
var myString = new adg.AString();
var parsed = myString.EscapeReg();
In addition, I want to be able to also use/create my special string sub-class within my library. I suppose I'm saying that I would like to extend or super-class the native String object.

here is my scenario:
I have a link and a div on a webpage. With the link I want to toggle the content (HTML) of the div. On toggle, I want to load the content from a PHP-file and I want it to load on the toggle, not when the webpage originally loaded (to reduce loading time on the webpage itself).
The file that is loaded on toggle doesn't have to be PHP, but it would help a lot.

I have a huge blob of code but the main part I am focusing on is this
$('.billboard_click').click(function () {
//this remove class
$(".billboard_click").removeClass("billboard_click");
});
1. Execute a click event when the div with the class 'billboard_click' is clicked
2. Once clicked, remove the class from that very div to avoid another click from happening
3. Execute a series of events such as animations, etc
4. add the class back to the clicker div
The code does not seem to work as expected but I am wondering if I am having issues elsewhere at this point and wonder if this actually is known to work
