JQuery :: Taking Dynamic Close Event And Put It On A Graphic?

I am trying to dynamically close a div overlay. I have an x that dynamically appears, then closes when the user presses it. I want the overlay to also close when the user clicks the close button. So far I've tried to bind the click event to my button but its not working.

I am a systems analyst and network admin for [url].... We already have an exisiting site, which has JS. We now need to add a lightbox effect onload that will basically overlay the page in grey and focus on a banner before you can access it. Thus, pushing everyone who visits to read a banner. I would also like to add an "x" graphic in the top right corner of the projected image to close the banner and return to veiwing our site.
I want to trap the window.close() event when the user clicks on the close button of the browser using javascript. Can anyone shed light on this problem ?

I would like to detect the iframe close event from the parent window, I was using this code but I did something wrong because the temp function is fired every time the parent page loads:

currently on our site we have and expanding <div> that responds to both the onmouseover and onmouseout events. It works wonderfully.
The UX people now would like the expanding <div> to open with the onclick event and then as soon as the mouse leaves the expanded div, it would close. I have tried using the onmouseout event in conjunction the onclick event but it does not work (the div persists).
I have ugraded JQuery to v1.3.2 But since i did that it looks like i've lost the close event on dialogs I've trying this : $('#dialog').dialog({close : function(){alert("lorem");}}); but when i click on the 'X' of the dialog nothing happens..
I'm having troubles trying to detect the browser close event. (in FF or IE) To do this I'm using these events: "unload" and "beforeunload", but both are more or less the same, I mean, when I refresh the page or navigate away thru some link, these events catch the same action, but I just need to catch the browser close event, no the page refresh, no the click thru, just the browser close...

The base_url() is part of CodeIgnighter it puts in the base url so i can access the image directory
I have an onload comand in my body to refresh this ever 10 seconds what i need to know is how to swap out the above file for friend_request.png witch is in the same dir

Is there a way to capture the event of a tab closing? Specifically a firefox tab? This question may have been asked before but the forum search ignores the word "tab" so I couldn't find anything. Would progress listeners be able to do this? Or is there an easier way? Right now the open tabs are stored in an array of tab objects, and I need to delete a tab object when it closes.
I know very little about jQuery. I am trying to design a graphic menu bar that is capable of displaying each button in 4 modes: up (neutral), hover, down (mouse down), and selected. After some research, I was able to "come up" (by cutting and pasting and burning up a couple of neurons) with the code below. It works well enough but I'm sure it could be written a lot better. What I really would like to do is to change whatever button is "down" to go back "up" once another button is pushed, changing the img src, or by whatever method is more efficient.
I have a button on my site, which when clicked calls an ajax function. What I want to do though, is append a loading graphic for just 2 seconds inside the button such that it looks as if the website is 'busy' saving when the button is clicked. This is obviously just for user feedback as the 'save' is done instantly - it's just for user feedback to make the user confident that the save button has worked. To do this, I'm trying to append a loading image to the save button, delay for 2 seconds, then remove the image, but it doesn't seem to work.

The issue is:
I tried to capture the browse close event by using Body onunload=fn1() statement and it is working fine.
I have one Parent and child window. My req is to close the child window when I click -X- buton in IE. It is also working fine. (I wrote condition in Unload event of the parent page).
But when the page is postback (when I click one button) the unload event fires and it closes my child window automatically. But I want my child window should not close this situation.

At the same time also need div of "headerNav" to move up 300px. In the below code snippet I'm trying to add an dynamic event in <div id="button3"> when you click at button1, which is added static in the html body. button3 has exactly the same behaviour as button1, but the eventhandler will not be activated.

Im writing a small app that will basically be like a wiki for family memebers to go in and make pages using my wysiwyg editor, update pages, ect..
the problem i've run into is trying to ensure they have saved the page. I have a variable to detect whether or not unsaved changes exist. however the problem is now stopping the close event if the user clicks 'cancel' in the confirmation box.
Examples of when the 'navigation' or 'browser close' should be blocked: 1)i've made a small change on the page then clicked on a link, i should receive a conf message asking me if i want to loose changes. 2)i've made a change on the page then clicked the browser 'X' (close) button by accident. I should get the conf message here as well. 3) i've hit the refresh or reload button without saving. again i want the conf message.
Note, if they want to close, clicking OK should allow them too. furthermore, this function to block the close and produce the confirmation only will be called if there are unsaved changes on the page.

I am a visual designer that can usually install pre written code without to much difficulty. And, indeed I have installed FancyBox
I am working with a dynamically generated page written in ColdFusion. Three divs on the page contain FancyBox links that open editing screens. Once editing is complete and the user closes the FancyBox modal the changes need to be reflected on the parent page.
Right, so I was able to find a solution that refreshes the entire page
to refresh the entire parent page. But, that causes a browser prompt that is confusing to users and a bit of over kill as I really only need the information edited to refresh.
How, oh how can I get just a single div to refresh "onClosed" as apposed to the entire page?
Which javascript event should be used to call logout on window close and url change. I want to call logout function on window close and URL change on my application.
I am calling logout functionon on <body onunload="doLogout();">, but onunload event is also called when refreshing the page. is there any specific event for Windoe close and URL change.
when i click on a <a> tag with class poplight this works fine. But when i add another anchor tag dynamically to my page (without a page reload, via ajax) like below...
and if i click on that anchor tag that was no placed on top of my first row it does not call the click event instead i can see the variables i tried passing through that anchor tag on my url.
any clue why this is happening.... i donot get any errors as well on firebug.
