Canceling The Page Close Event From A Confirmation Box.
Jan 31, 2006
Im writing a small app that will basically be like a wiki for family memebers to go in and make pages using my wysiwyg editor, update pages, ect..
the problem i've run into is trying to ensure they have saved the page.
I have a variable to detect whether or not unsaved changes exist. however the problem is now stopping the close event if the user clicks 'cancel' in the confirmation box.
Examples of when the 'navigation' or 'browser close' should be blocked:
1)i've made a small change on the page then clicked on a link, i should receive a conf message asking me if i want to loose changes.
2)i've made a change on the page then clicked the browser 'X' (close) button by accident. I should get the conf message here as well.
3) i've hit the refresh or reload button without saving. again i want the conf message.
Note, if they want to close, clicking OK should allow them too. furthermore, this function to block the close and produce the confirmation only will be called if there are unsaved changes on the page.
here is what i have so far - and this appears to work fine in IE. Code:

Is there a better way than this in IE7 for an Intranet page on a
trusted site to close a non-script opened window?
var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
WshShell.SendKeys("{ENTER}");
window.close();
Is there any kind of registry change that we can roll out on our LAN
that will allow window's to close themselves in Javascript for IE7?

I have an iframe that includes a button:

I would like to detect the iframe close event from the parent window, I
was using this code but I did something wrong because the temp function
is fired every time the parent page loads:
function temp(){
alert('the iframe was closed');
}
function setup(){
var myIFrame = document.getElementById("iframe1");
if (myIFrame.addEventListener) {
myIFrame.addEventListener('onclose', temp(), false);
}else if (myIFrame.attachEvent) {
myIFrame.attachEvent ('onclose',temp);
}else{
myIFrame.onclose=temp();
}
}
window.onload=setup;

currently on our site we have and expanding
that responds to both the onmouseover and onmouseout events. It works wonderfully.
The UX people now would like the expanding
to open with the onclick event and then as soon as the mouse leaves the expanded div, it would close. I have tried using the onmouseout event in conjunction the onclick event but it does not work (the div persists).

Im trying to grab certain variables like orderID & Subtotal variables that are posted to the confirmation page. The reason im grabbing these is for a confirmation pixel that is displayed for commission junction. When some clicks on their link, then completes an order,heir tracking pixel fires grabs these variables and that way they can track the order confirmaton. The problem is they dont see the tracking pixel firing and its not grabbing the variables. I dont know what to do. Here is the code.This is the code that shows on the confirmation page. Im assuming this is where im suppose to grab the variables.
//
var SecureCartOrders = [ {"orderID":154983165,"name":"Max Test","company":null,"email1":"max@maxtest.com","address1":"123 main

I am developing a contact form and I have the form fully working but all I want is for when you fill out the contact form and submit it, a Lightbox window shows the confirmation page instead of it opening in the whole window. I have tried everything I can think of (I am a complete newbie with JS). The form is located here: [URL].

I would like to know how to display a confirmation message when a user attempts to navigate away from a page. For example, if a users clicks the X to close the window, or chooses another link from his favorites, I want to display a message that says something like "Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page, click OK to continue, or Cancel to remain on this page."
I noticed this on meebo.com. After you log in, when you try to close the window you get a confirmation dialog like I describe above. I didn't think this was possible to show a confirmation dialog using the onunload event, but I could be wrong.

Is there a way to capture the event of a tab closing? Specifically a firefox tab? This question may have been asked before but the forum search ignores the word "tab" so I couldn't find anything. Would progress listeners be able to do this? Or is there an easier way? Right now the open tabs are stored in an array of tab objects, and I need to delete a tab object when it closes.

I have code that looks like this:
function setupEventWrapper(obj) {
old_ev_handler = obj.onsubmit;
obj.onsubmit = function () {
do_something();
if (old_ev_handler != undefined) {
old_ev_handler();
}
if (event_cancelled()) {
undo_something();
}}}
it wraps the onsubmit handler (if any) within a new function which
do_something() and then calls the old event handler.
My problem is how can I detect if the event has been canceled by
old_ev_handler(). AFAIK an event can be cancelled in three ways:
* returning false, easy to check for
* setting event.returnValue = false on IE, easy to check for
* calling event.preventDefault() on DOM
How can I check if event.preventDefault() has been called?

I have googled for my issue in this group. This question was asked
many times and many solution was given. But I want clear cut solution
for the issue.
The issue is:
I tried to capture the browse close event by using
Body onunload=fn1() statement and it is working fine.
I have one Parent and child window.
My req is to close the child window when I click -X- buton in IE. It
is also working fine. (I wrote condition in Unload event of the parent
page).
But when the page is postback (when I click one button) the unload
event fires and it closes my child window automatically. But I want my
child window should not close this situation.

I have two javascript onloads in my form which seem to be cancelling each other out. The first- onload="checkMyBox"- works fine, which means the calendar stays hidden until the ckeckbox is clicked. However the second script that is supposed to show text ("I am an organized person") only after image is clicked does not work. It always shows the text.
I tried playing with it, and realized that if I erase the first
the second onload works, meaning that the text will stay hidden until I click on image.
Code JavaScript:

function checkMyBox(trigger,toggled){
var mcb = document.getElementById(trigger);
var cal = document.getElementById(toggled);

I'm having troubles trying to detect the browser close event. (in FF or IE) To do this I'm using these events: "unload" and "beforeunload", but both are more or less the same, I mean, when I refresh the page or navigate away thru some link, these events catch the same action, but I just need to catch the browser close event, no the page refresh, no the click thru, just the browser close...

I am a visual designer that can usually install pre written code without to much difficulty. And, indeed I have installed FancyBox
I am working with a dynamically generated page written in ColdFusion. Three divs on the page contain FancyBox links that open editing screens. Once editing is complete and the user closes the FancyBox modal the changes need to be reflected on the parent page.
Right, so I was able to find a solution that refreshes the entire page
'onClosed': function() {
parent.location.reload(true); }
});
to refresh the entire parent page. But, that causes a browser prompt that is confusing to users and a bit of over kill as I really only need the information edited to refresh.
How, oh how can I get just a single div to refresh "onClosed" as apposed to the entire page?
