JQuery :: Setting Focus To Form Field On DIV Popup
Nov 18, 2010
I've got this hidden div that pops up using jQuery when the login menu item is clicked.
<div class="entry-wrapper" id="reg-login" style="display:none;">
<div class="t"></div>
<div id="loginFormHolder" class="c">
<div class="close">
<a href="index.php" class="spotlight-close"> </a>
</div> <!-- close -->
<div class="login">
<div> <!-- blank --> .....
What I'm trying to do is setting the input focus on the user_session_username text input and the code is not working. The div pops up but the focus is never put into the user_session_username edit field.

There are many ways for setting focus on form fields. I'm actually looking for some code that automatically detects if there is any form on the page & then automatically sets the focus to the first field of the form.
No need of putting Form Name & Field Name in Javascript. Is there any way to do this ???

I am trying to throw in some client-side validation to my php web form. My problem is that only one field is actually getting validated. Here is the code:
Form: onSubmit="return checkForm(this);"
script: function checkForm(form) {
var firstname = document.getElementById("wpFirstName").value;
var lastname = document.getElementById("wpLastName").value;
if (firstname == "") {
document.getElementById("firstNameError").style.display="inline";
document.getElementById("wpFirstName").select();
document.getElementById("wpFirstName").focus();
return false;
}else if (lastname == "") {
document.getElementById("lastNameError").style.display="inline";
document.getElementById("wpLastName").select();
document.getElementById("wpLastName").focus();
return false;
}
return true;
}
The if statement evaluating the last name field is the only statement that evaluates to true. It seems the first statment is bypassed. Any ideas? PS. the element with the id lastNameError/firstNameError is in a div tag.

Is there a way to set the focus on a form field without using focus()? I use ajax to build the form and if I try to set the focus using focus() an error is generate because of the form hasn't been built by ajax. So, it would be nice if I could set the focus() as I built the form.

I am very new to jquery and I am trying to set the value of a textarea which is not in a form, into a hidden field which is in a form. In the text area, I have given it an id called refnote and ive used the text() to get the text in it. However, the problem is setting the retrieved text in a hidden form field.
$('form').submit(function(){
alert ($('#refnotes').text());
return false;
});

I am using a standard html <form> to send data to a pop up calculating somthing.
I want all coming requests to go to the same window.
Quite easy with forms since we have the target attribute, thus target="calculating_window".
However future <form> submitted entries will appear in the "calculating_window" window, but keep behind the current active window (with the <form> formular). The user therefore cannot see new entries beeing calculated.
I tried working with a OnClick thing with the submit button and javascript focus(), but i just can't get i to work. Any suggestions?

I have a form which open in a jQuery Fancybox Window. The fancybox window opens automatically when the page loads. When it loads, I would like it to set focus on the username field in the form in the Fancybox window. I have found that this must be done when fancybox is envoked, thus I have tried the below code which does not work :
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
$("#hidden_link").trigger('click');
document.getElementById('login_form.username').focus();
});
</script>
The form name is "login_form" and the field name is "username".

I want to set focus to the first field in the page's only form, when the page opens. I suspect that this might involve some client-side coding.
Surely by now someone here has done this in a PHP context.

I have a password field like this:
<input name="site_assword" type="password" class=loginform value="password" size="10" onfocus="this.value=''" onblur="if (this.value=='') {this.value='password'}">
It shows a default value which dissapears when the user clicks on the password field. However, because the input field type is set to 'password', whatever I set as the default value is masked by *
Is there any way around this to make normal text appear but still have the input box masked when they start to type the password?

I have managed to create a very basic form validation script that I can retrospectively add into current forms with the least effort.
As far as the validation goes I am sure that the script is not pretty, but it does work. However, I have failed to manage to get it to return the focus to the first field that errors.
My abortive attempts are not included in the attached script because I have tried and failed with many different attempts that I have confused myself. I would appreciate any advice that could point me in the right direction to place the focus in the first error field found. Code:

I'm developing am income tax calculator, and everything is going swell. Currently the user can type in their adjusted gross income (AGI), hit submit, and learn the amount of income tax they would pay, their tax rate, and their income after tax.
I've played around with the events to get the submit button to work in FF, IE, Chrome and Safari -- and I've gotten the enter button to work before with some stock code, but here's the catch: when the user presses enter, i want the focus to leave the input box. I don't care where it goes (submit button, I suppose?) but i need it to leave the input field so the onfocus="clearText(this);" event can fire when they return to type in a new income.
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">
function TotalGrossPerYear() {
var Calc = document.NetIncome;
if (Calc.InputRad[0].checked) {

I'm setting an empty hidden div as the value of a form field and then calling inline div opener using thickbox.js:
Code:
<a href="#" onclick="javascript:document.getElementById('previewdiv').innerHTML = document.forms['form1'].content.value;tb_show('Preview','#TB_inline?height=550&width=500&inlineId=previewdiv');"><span class="icon-32-preview" title="Preview"></span>Preview</a>
<div id="previewdiv" name="previewdiv" style="display:none;"></div>
The thickbox opens with the title "Preview", but is empty.I've alerted the div after setting it, and it does contain the formfield value.Why might this be happening? I've also tried setting the div like this (foo as dummy text - to no avail):
Code:
$('#previewdiv').html('foo');

I'm opening a dialog box using the jQuery UI dialog methods, this box will display a form, and I would like to autofocus the first element. I'm also modifying tabindex of the different form fields of this new form in order to make them a lot higher than those of the original page, and thus navigate through the form using only the tab key. The issue is that I can correctly change tabindex values, and correctly focus the first element but pressing tab will not focus the next element in my newly added form but seems to act as I was focusing the first "tabindexable" element of my original page. I also note that manually focusing (ie. clicking) the element cause no problem, new tab index order is respected. Does anyone have a clue where it can came from ? Something seems to be messed up in the tabindex order. Tested on FF3, maybe the browser only update tabindex order on "manual" focus and not when modifying attributes ?

In my fnCustomOnload() function I have tried to bind a focusout event on a particular input and have it call a function callled fnGetRestriction(). The function fnGetRestriction()actually works without errors, I have forced it with the grabfocus.focus (lines 2 and 3)but it is called not being called anytime other than once at the beginning when it is force by lines 2 and 3.. The line that performs the alert() (line 4)works properly all the time. What is wrong with line 5?

I am created a site where personal messages will be sent to other members. To do this I want to allow users to either type in the users seperating their name by ; (ie Joe Bloggs; Michael Jackson; Fred Flintstone). or alternativly have a popup box where all the names on the database are displayed in a list with a check box next to the names. I will be using PHP to interact with the database and know about this
My problem is getting details from the popup box and displaying them in the text field on the main browsers form? So if in the popup box the user checked Michael Jackson's name how would I get Michael Jackson to dispaly in the main browers field (input name ="to")?
Does anyone know how to do this?

I'm currently making a web application which needs to be fully compatible with iPad. The functions I've implemented so far work perfectly on Firefox, Internet Explorer and other browsers. However, the iPad itself responds a bit different. After a certain action, I want to put focus on a textfield with the help of Javascript. Again, this works perfectly with the normal browser, the iPad browser however seems to be blocking the focus. The reason I'm not posting any code is because it's basically irrelevant. All I do is:

I have looked all over the Internet for the last few hours and the main articles I can find are using JQuery or Prototype to handle validation. However, I am trying to work on a series of forms (They won't work with tabs due to their nature) which depend on other items in a database.So, what I want to do is if someone is inserting a record in Form 1 to input into Table 1 which has an ID from Table 2, it will pop up a new form (shadowing out Form 1, sort of like LightBox does) to create the new record into Table 2. Once this record is inserted successfully, it will return control to Form 1.I plan on making an OnKeyUp activate this script when someone clicks on the textfield to add a new category. I understand what I have posted may be a little confusing, but I basically just need to be pointed in the right direction with a couple of tutorials to follow for how to use AJAX to show forms.

I know this isn't related to generic javascript but I didn't found a
group dedicated to the FCKEditor. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
I'm desperately trying to set the focus into a FCKEditor component
(client side). I know that the FCK object exposes a "Focus()" method
(the capital F isn't a spelling mistake). The problem is I don't know
how to bind to this object from my container page (aspx). How can you
reference this object?
